I believe a lot of time Don Gonzales goes back and "washes" or "cleans" with another lite coat of tan kote. I've heard him say it helps clean up the high spots.
Thank you for your great effort sharing so much information! I hope to put what you have taught me into some of my work, you make it look so professional. Your belts are fantastic, so difficult to put a price on a piece of art.
Try a slightly damp rag or microfibre cloth for the wipe off if you let it dry out like that. I wipe off after 5 mins with paper towel. Its too hard to wipe off so dry and gets built up like in this video. I apply a but more then wipe off much sooner. Lovley stamping and tool work. Absolutely A+👌
Good take on antiquing. Watched DG's video too. Always good to learn same thing from different people to understand different techniques. I use cloth diapers to remove excess. Fairly cheap and they hold up longer. I didn't like the way the paper towel came apart. Nice work.
Thanks. Best thing is you had some issues you had to deal with, "like me" and still got it done. I've seen so many leather company videos where they get it perfect in 10 minutes and left still wondering why my work can't be perfect.
Stitch groove after and or don't use white thread. In 10 years I've only used white once. That was just for an accent on green dyed leather. It just gets dirty and discolors anyway
Any issues of the antique falling out of the tooling after the person wears the belt a few times? On my belts, the antique started falling out of random spots. I even tried letting the antique dry for 24 hours before using Tan-Kote. It looks great until the person starts wearing it and the antique starts chipping/falling out
Hi there, great video, at present I only make leather sheaths for the knives I make, I have taught myself to basketweave stamp which looks pretty coolon the sheaths, some questions, is the antique finish actually a colour?I've noticed it comes in different colours, I' m also wondering how it would affect my stitching?or, does it pay to do the antiqueing then stitching? one more quick question, do you wash and re-use the sheepskin pads, thanks and keep up with the videos, they're great...
Antique finish comes in many dark shades (colors) of brown all the way to black and burgundys.. so I guess it kinda depends on what you mean by "color" If I were you I would antique the item before you run your stitching grove and sew.. However I've done it both ways. Just know the antique finish will color your stitching (thread)

Beautiful! Thank you for the demonstration! I just ordered my tan kote and scraps.
Perfect Thank you!
Paper towel works good for me… looks good man.
I've since tried using the blue "shop" paper towels. So far so good.
Your work is beautiful.
Thank you very much!

Do you make straps for musical instruments?
Yep
Should I dye the edge before this or after
I dye afterward
How long did you let the oil and tan kot dry
You can let it dry in as little as 15minutes .. all depends on your climate where you're working
Please list the million ways you mentioned.
?
You can tell, this is the 1st time you ever done this..... paper towel psssssss
Not being mean dont even grove it till the end after antiquing. Then stitch thats what i do but let everything dry before grooving.
I understand good point.. I've done both.. It all depends on the result you are going for
