    I'm a total noob to this and would love to know more about burnishing canvas. Is that something I can buy or prep myself? Your video is the first I've come across that mentions it. Thanks in advance 😄

    • @lostbuckaroo

      You can buy heavy white canvas on ebay by the yard. It will take some time to get the canvas conditioned. There are several different ways to burnish edges. Every leather craft has their own preferred method. I haven't searched but I'm sure there are several videos here on RUclips on burnished edges.

    Stitch groove after and or don't use white thread. In 10 years I've only used white once. That was just for an accent on green dyed leather. It just gets dirty and discolors anyway

    Try a slightly damp rag or microfibre cloth for the wipe off if you let it dry out like that. I wipe off after 5 mins with paper towel. Its too hard to wipe off so dry and gets built up like in this video. I apply a but more then wipe off much sooner. Lovley stamping and tool work. Absolutely A+👌

    Any issues of the antique falling out of the tooling after the person wears the belt a few times? On my belts, the antique started falling out of random spots. I even tried letting the antique dry for 24 hours before using Tan-Kote. It looks great until the person starts wearing it and the antique starts chipping/falling out

    I`m really reluctant to put Olive oil on my belts because I read on the Net , and I quote the passage, ......" Although leather does indeed become a little suppler after applying olive oil, this instant gratification comes with a price. Olive oil, and every oily substance for that matter, will not “nourish” your leather, but actually accelerate its deterioration. " So I guess you can see how confused I am to use it .

      (It rots) because it’s (food) and it will turn rancid and moldy! So yeah , not the best! Just because it’s a “old method” don’t mean it’s the best! Like using synthetic oil in your car verses regular oil… These days, synthetic is a no brainer!

    Hi there, great video, at present I only make leather sheaths for the knives I make, I have taught myself to basketweave stamp which looks pretty coolon the sheaths, some questions, is the antique finish actually a colour?I've noticed it comes in different colours, I' m also wondering how it would affect my stitching?or, does it pay to do the antiqueing then stitching? one more quick question, do you wash and re-use the sheepskin pads, thanks and keep up with the videos, they're great...

    • @lostbuckaroo
      @lostbuckaroo 2 года назад

      Antique finish comes in many dark shades (colors) of brown all the way to black and burgundys.. so I guess it kinda depends on what you mean by "color" If I were you I would antique the item before you run your stitching grove and sew.. However I've done it both ways. Just know the antique finish will color your stitching (thread)
