Pat Metheny Group - To the End of the World (Live)

- We Live Here is an album by the Pat Metheny Group, released in 1995 by Geffen Records. The album eschews the Group's Brazilian-tinged jazz for downtempo and world music, incorporating a slick modern sound coupled with drum loops and sampling. This album shows a high level of collaboration between Lyle Mays and Pat Metheny having composed almost all the songs together.

Well said…
Let me get my "Map of the World"
@@danmason8427 Music is where the map is.
Ja też! Ja też!!!❤
🥰YES Yes! Yes!!!! THIS❤ IT #PMG4Ever🤟🏽
I must tell it like it is. I have many favorite songs from many different Genres, It is my humble opinion that this song, "To the End of the World" is the most beautiful, soul-soothing, radiant, fascinating, exquisite, alluring, fascinating, delightful music I have ever heard of all the music anywhere in all of my life. Absolutely beautiful and soothing to my heart and soul, a piece that represents the ultimate love in Love. Lyle Mays, Pat Metheny, The Pat Metheny Group and God himself could create a song so beautiful. Magnificent! Magnificent! Magnificent!
agree
We could be great friends. Laughing
It is the work of wizards.
I love this but red sky from Pat is my absolute favorite.
Great description of a truly magnificent piece of music my friend
This is absolutely one of the smoothest bass lines of all time!!! The piano solo by Lyle is just off the charts as well!!!
'Yes to the end'
takes you somewhere in time that's why I keep this in my Spotify group, I do an awful lot of things with this one piece, I've found out that two can also dance to it, yes it can be a Fred astaire & ginger rodgers thing too if you want it to be. Last you could just hold your partner and just execute a romantic two step for two, three maybe four minutes , stop, rest, retire or pour some glasses of wine with some rocks. I would look into the eyes of my dancing partner if it were me leading the dance.
RIP Lyle....you were the greatest
Today, I discovered this song while I was cycling. I flew!
If this piece of music doesn’t take you to a new level; check with your doctor you be dead & don’t know it.
Or if it doesn’t make you naturally high in the spirit!
Lyle is the master of the piano..
Paddy Connolly He can be so subtle, he just throws in those little blue notes to keep you hooked. Masterful!!
My favorite artist of all time - If I had a choice of only one music to listen to in the here after for eternity, it would Pat Metheny
Truth....
Completely agree!
cooley pope Already on my music list for my funeral.
To the end of the world and in the end of the world....
me too hes just genius
Now you know that time travel is real after listening to this because you have no idea what happened to the last 12 minutes and 15 seconds., you are just gone and when you try to describe to someone what you just experienced you can't because there are no appropriate words for what you just felt and experienced. That is the genius of Pat Metheny
But oh for that striped shirt! 😂
Thank you Mr Lyle Mays for your musical genius
R.I.P Lyle Mays
Lyle Mays really went to the end of the world.
His melodic playing is pure joy!
Does it ever get better than this? I heard this 30 years ago for the first time and it forever stayed true to my heart! Beautiful from beginning to end! Lyle Mays piano solo is mesmerizing! Methany is a pure genius! I shared with my children to make it a bedtime song and they loved it!
As much as Metheny and Mays always shine on these songs, this one in particular is a Steve Rodby special. Using the upright instead of the electric here is pure genius.
Without the music of Pat Metheny the world would be a mistake!
This song is not just magical: it's metaphysical. A major achievement.
Fabulous sentence !! I can't say more than u wrote !!
Truth....
Es la música de los Ángeles, vamos, es la música de Dios
I get goosebumps every time I listen to this. RIP Lyle and Mark 🙏
Me too....
Lyle Mays...Sublime...I miss You!!!
I experienced this concert at Wolf Trap around 1997. It was a hot summer evening in the Washington DC area. It was magical. Incredible. PMG was at their peak. Seeing PMG in concert was a “bucket list” experience. I’ll never forget it.
Pat metheny I call him the "story teller". And Lyle the keeper of the flame . Wolfen
RIP Lyle Mays...what an inspiration and amazing musician you have been...You are missed.
The music that Pat and Lyle created together was, in my opinion, the best that either of them did, ever.
He has such an amazing sense of rhythm over bar lines. Takes hemiola to the next level!
My lifelong friend turned me on to PMG in 1980. My life hasn't been the same since. RIP Lyle.
Im not certain I want to reside in a world where Lyle is no longer living. What a void he has left.
Agreed on the void.
This is one hell of a track , every time i listen to it takes me on a long journey to paradise,
Love & respect from Egypt 🇪🇬
El mejor de los mejores.
Es único, su música evoca,es como si estuviera en el paraíso
I am actually addicted to this piece of music .. and Pat Metheny in general.. like someone else has said, I could listen forever
Pat Metheny/Lyle Mays-30 years working together. What beautiful music these two greats have made together. Very large piano bench to fill w/Lyle's passing. One of my favorite songs, 'To The End Of The World'.- 'Are You Going With Me'? Tops!
I've been a fan since 1977 San Lorenzo was my riding home from work song at11pm . Concerts never disappoint. Was sad at the passing of Lyle but I still listen to the magic. Thanks Pat.
Same here! 👍
No words can describe the emotions that this song evokes. Just came home from a 2 hour 40 minute Pat Metheny show with Antonio Sanchez on drums, Linda May Han Oh on bass, and Gwilym Simcock on piano. I can’t sleep, I’m so stoked. Rummaging through RUclips for any and all Pat Metheny vids.
Yes, we are blessed to be living at the same time as these guys. I've loved Pat since 1976, but as each year passed by i appreciate what an incredible artist is on those keys. Damn, i miss him
Nice to know Lyle is so missed. His solo on this clip is beyond description. I miss him also
If it had been 4 years ago that I read your reaction to all things PMG I would advised a couple of Jack Daniels shots fill and go to sleep!!😊😉
This is a particularly great version of a fantastic song
I too was able to experience that and did exactly the same - especially since covid lockdowns happened just after that gig. YT transported me through space and time to music all around the world even though we could not travel.
I have to hear this every day of my life, or life is just not complete. Pat and Lyle together are a match made by the gods. Lyle, you are missed, but I am so lucky to have experienced you in recordings and life performances.
Truth...
Also w Jack Dejohnette!
If vibrations and frequencies is what this universe is made off this piece is mastering them! It’s just mesmerizing and fascinating… I’m in love with Pat Metheny’s group forever…
Could be the best Pat Metheny/Lyle Mays composition ever. Definitely put it in my top 3
- Something to remind you
- As it is
- To the end of the world
- September fifteenth
- First Circle
My top Pat and lyle’s compositions
I've been following PMG since 1978, even had the pleasure to meet Lyle Mays at the Domicile Club in Munich. The cooperation between Pat Metheny and his congenial partner Lyle Mays was overwhelming and breathtaking. RIP Lyle Mays...miss you already! 😢
And Mark Ledford rip+ 😔
had the pleasure of seeing this dude playing this tune live in philadelphia 20 years ago and yes he was wearing that same shirt. wow 😳
Envy is not a strong enough word....
I might be totally wrong, but given this is one of my favorite Pat Metheny Group song's I can safely say that Pat's solo is a solid representation of the cries and suffering of humanity and the hope of a better world in the future. Lyle's brilliant solo represents all of the different phases and cultures we have gone through as a human race and at the end when the band abruptly stops, the lights and other animations mimic what I believe is a hydrogen bomb going off, but to that end, thanks to our great Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, life goes on and humanity will be saved! So well titled is this song "To the End of the World"
You had me until you went and dragged Jesus into it... if god is so great, why are there cries and suffering of humanity in the first place? Because of what man did, even though it knew exactly what man would do? So if I don't find your fairy tale savior (who is still the universe's reigning champion of Hide-And-Seek) I'm not going to get saved from the cries and suffering that it is serving up? What a strange way to give love. It actually sounds like kind of an abusive relationship to me.
You're probably not a dumb person, but you've been indoctrinated into some really dumb ideas. Take some time to REALLY think about what you believe and honestly assess if it makes any sense. It's OK to just say "I don't know" and move on.
@@pt008 I agree entirely with your comments. I was indoctrinated from the age of 5, and didn't give Catholicism away until my 40s, when all the abuse by priests came into the open.. Great talent in mankind is nothing to to with a God. It is determination, inspiration from all sorts of thing's, and dedication.
So astute and perceptive. It’s a cry from the abyss, yearning without knowing why it’s yearning, chasing without knowing what it is chasing or what for, all the while, it’s efforts nullified and it’s storehouse spoiled - though the moral capacity to see why is dead and as such, it is destined to chase…all is vanity, futility and chasing the wind.
Jesus is the only way
@@pt008 man did this, not God. Your blame is misplaced. Your pride and reliance on only self to the exclusion of God in defiance of his law has blinded you from this. Only surrender will turn the light in. Until then your reasoning is darkness. And if that darkness is your light, how great is that darkness!
Amen
It’s hard to describe Metheny’s music, because it’s happening on so many levels; as if in 5 dimensions. The ingenuity, and creativity never ceases to amaze. He captures the essence of human emotion along the way; all the while making technically elegant music. It’s in the musical DNA of everything he does. The genius of these musicians is really thrilling to experience. Fortunately it’s “here to stay”.
I have been listening to this song since 1995 when i received this CD for my bday. I enjoyed this song right away but then during a live concert in Italy, when PMG performed it for 15 minutes, i fell in love. The whole audience was like hypnotized. Since then, i never get tired to listen to it, over and over
What a piece!! Just indescribable! Missed Mark Ledford and Lyle!! May they rest in peace!!!
Effortless talent, the poise, timing, feel, sublime. Fav line up of the PMG as well as Nana and Pedro. RIP Lyle.
What pure joy it is to actually see Pat playing this masterpiece.
He's spiritual went to another place.
One of the greatest , most innovative , guitarist ever.
My God the tones , & different sounds he's getting out of that guitar.
Making it sound like a keyboard .
Wow !!!
One of a kind music from true virtuoso musicians !! 😊
Hard to believe this album is 20+ years old! But all great music is timeless. Pat is a true master! This is like the fourth time I've listened to this today and it never gets old. Pure genius!
I completely agree with u man... !
My first introduction to Pat Metheny was "Are you going with me?" from the album 'Offramp. I soon discovered 'Secret Story' and 'We live here', two remarkable albums. They represent the time in my life when I was free, and anything seemed possible
This song is simply divine, it came from heaven!
Pat Metheny is my every day medicine such powerful music that make my every day life so joyful
When he plays that guitar synthesizer, he is in such a 'zone', and so am I.
This is probably the most beautiful PMG song, and all the songs of this group are wonderful.
This is an incredible piece of MUSIC! WORLD CLASS! I want PAT METHENY music played at my funeral.
The guitar synth lead was amazing
One of the most haunting and beautiful songs I've ever heard. The collaboration between Lyle Mays and Pat Metheny is pure magic. This is a floating melody that could go on forever. IMHO.

Si you played this to me. Must be 25 years ago but I love it. Don't matter how old. Pat Metheny is on a different level. I love the vocals. I will always love it as I do you. Carmen 💋
lyle mays left this world a magnificent legacy may he rest eternal. wolfen
A iconic album.
An awesome performance. This was taken from the "Live in Japan" video, which is absolutely incredible. RIP Lyle Mays and Mark Ledford. You will not be forgotten. Actually, I think it was not long after this came out is when we lost Mark (black dude on vocals).
Mark Ledford passed away in 2004. He was a fantastic musician and was also the vocalist in an early version of Living Colour, another of my very favorite bands.
@@timmiller5913 Absolutely. Saw him when the group was in Portland on Letter From Home tour. At least I got to see him perform once. Wondering now what Pat will do without Lyle.
I Just came across this after many years. I went to three shows in three nights of this tour. It brings many good memories and a reminder that I need to get this album back on my playlist. Night one of the concert was dead center in the venue, night two a little closer and night three, second row. It was as if they were playing just for us, an incredibly intimate experience.
@@3rdandlong Side Eye Tour's starting ~May 2023 with younger pianist & drummer I'm not familiar with. I need to look them up since I'll see them in June. Anyone else seen Side Eye yet?
@@sharonalbright402 Metheny? Where in June?
What a beautiful arrangement. Pat, Lyle, and that bass player are tuned.
Superlativo Pat y todo el grupo, no me canso de esta Musica.
La historia del Hombre no se escribe sólo en los libros. También se deja grabada en el sonido, la más ancestral forma de relatar y compartir sentimientos.
AVE Pat Metheny, Genio y leyenda viviente.

Thank you Pat for enriching my life wit your music. It supported me, pushed me, warmed me and still gives me visions. Once - in the 90s - I had the honor to join your concert in Hamburg/Stadtpark - I still remember the atmosphere, the once-in-a-lifetime-excitement - once again, Thank you

My go-to music, obsessively. My 8yr old granddaughter's Show and Tell music choice, the teachers and fellow students still look at her askance and call her weird. Lol. Thank you Pat, you made the journey of life worthy.
What else can you say about a work of art that hasn't been said. At this point the only thing that I can come out with is: Thank you PMG for the beautiful music.
... esta música... parece um fluxo de água que escorre serenamente o seu caminho, que cobre fluidamente pequenas rochas q a conduzem ao seu final, fluxo de água que cobre tudo por onde passa com a sua transparência que lhe é inerente. .... Til the end of the world
Jest to chyba najpiękniejszy utwór PMG , zresztą wszystkie utwory tej grupy są cudowne.
