It's such a simple song...just basic chord turnarounds throughout. But every chord is PERFECT and interesting and serves the song and lyrics. It's an uplifting life-affirming yet bittersweet song. Yeah...it's perfect. One of those rare songs I'd kill to have written myself...
Of all the tremendous tracks they've recorded, this one just does something to me. I can't and I won't try to explain it. It just does - and that's not a bad thing.

Hearing this song takes me back to my days as a broke college freshman driving to school in a old car with no a/c. I’ve come a long way since then, but part of me wishes I could hit the reset button and experience it all over again.
Wow they crushed this. I was still a big Ozzy fan in those days, but I did catch this SP concert or one like it on PBS back in the day and recall being very impressed at the time. Just now exploring their music more thoroughly in these dark days since my divorce, I find that I feed off of the energy and have a lot of motivation to push forward. Makes me feel confident that I'll bounce back stronger than ever.

Great performance. This was pretty much at their peak. Great band, great albums, great music. Love listening to them to this day. Of all their songs, it's interesting how *Bullet With Butterfly Wings* gets so much circulation on terrestrial radio.
BWBW is still one of the great all time radio rock jams, plain and simple. it's just a stunning and brutally effective hard rock song. That said, Muzzle and this other side of SP is what makes them such a timeless and unique band. Two extremes on the same disc!
I love them since I was 12 years old with Rocket, one night and one night I felt asleep with the earphones on, on repeat album mode and I woke up with this song, it is my favourite band ever.

Iha is one of the reasons I picked up a guitar, I love this song, it defines my high school days and the greatest generation of all time, X. What a great time it was to be a young man in high school, in love with life and youth. Melancholy and the Infinite Boners.
1:37 haha....love how Billy kinda flubs that high note and laughs it off. He put so much energy into the vocals here that it was bound to happen lol...
For a rocker, Billy has always enunciated his words well. He rarely mumbled unlike other singers. As a result, misheard lyrics seem pretty rare for SP songs. And for that, I’m thankful.
James playing that solo was solid. that Les Paul He's playing here is really sweet. never seen him play one like that before. it doesn't seem to be his standard black Les Paul.
I'm pretty sure if jimmy wants to be reassured he's a bad ass drummer he just has to look through any pumpkins video comments. All the comments are always about how fucking stellar he is. And I agree 1000000%
I made out with Darcy outside a club attached to the Selby Hotel in 1996. I was 24 years old, a good-looking fit young fellah and brimming with confidence. She was into me, and I had no idea who she was until she told me. She told me a phone number but I forgot it almost right away. We didn't have cell-phones then so there was none of that. What a blast! Life is hilarious.
Jimmy Chamberlain, what a drummer!!
underrated
Definitly i watched him live in 96 he was fucking awesome no drummer from the 90s is anywhere near him

He has some cool jazz projects!!
Such an underrated song. To me its perfection
excellent song! sounds good every time
it only matters what you think!
It's such a simple song...just basic chord turnarounds throughout.

Ive always thought that this was one of their very best songs.

It is, describes hf autism perfectly!
I dont think it. I know IT
when billy hears those drums coming in from Jimmy it gives him massive confidence😀
Wayne Evans ❤️❤️🤘🤘
Jimmy is the man!!!
I think any front man would
Having a great drummer in your band is everything. It's like riding a bike with wind from the back
Of all the tremendous tracks they've recorded, this one just does something to me. I can't and I won't try to explain it. It just does - and that's not a bad thing.
Ditto agreed and amen...
i think it is a bad thing, you are the devil,
same

I’m with you it is very emotional and powerful
Simply the greatest band of my childhood
Hearing this song takes me back to my days as a broke college freshman driving to school in a old car with no a/c. I’ve come a long way since then, but part of me wishes I could hit the reset button and experience it all over again.
Same!
you obviously dont live in florida
I love watching Jimmy Chamberlin play. He's so fluid,no wasted motion, just awesome!
man these lyrics sum it all up, it's everything.
totally
It's McCartney level. ❤
"And I knew the secrets in your spires." That line speaks volumes to me and reminds of someone I really cared about.
What's it mean to you? Religious architecture? Just curious, I'm a big fan. ❤
This song causes me to swell up in tears for some reason.... both happy and sad. It just speaks to me
I’d give just about anything to see Billy, James, D’arcy, and Jimmy play on stage together again...
No darcy. 75percent aint bad
All things must surely have to end
Great loves must surely have to past
Just need Darcy
@@euminkong I saw them back in 2019 they still rocking man.
At the front row

Are we living the same life? Sending love to u friend
Such a pice of art. So underrated. I can feel the tune of the audience jumping.
Always my favorite pumpkins song
Me too !
Just sick cool lyrics on top of a sick riff...very real..welcome to the big leagues kids!!
Such a great song. So many good ones on Mellon collie
Perhaps the greatest Pumpkins song of all; simply electric and very emotional ; SP for RRHOF !!!!
been a fan since i was 13 (36 now) and never had seen a live performance of theirs…. man i lost so much. they’re fucking awesome live too.
62 and still listening to them.
I had tickets to the Madison square garden show that was cancelled because Jonathan Melvoin died. Never did get to see them 😢
Absolute chills. Wow
i'm rather both pleased and surprised that James handles all the solos on this song! awesome!!
HuysMusic Iha is severely underrated. He’s really an incredible guitarist, too often overshadowed by the also great Corgan.
Thru the eyes of ruby live at the Brixton academy in 1995 shows you what Iha can do!
One of their best songs! 2:40 is euphoric.
Isn't it? Aching and beautiful pain. 😍
What a performance! They had this slacker type of reserved presence but a sound that was like a massive wall!

So healing...
still one of my favorite songs by them
Always will be for me.
One of my very best favorites. Awsome performance!
Great song by a truly great band! An amazing performance!
Great performance. This was pretty much at their peak. Great band, great albums, great music. Love listening to them to this day. Of all their songs, it's interesting how *Bullet With Butterfly Wings* gets so much circulation on terrestrial radio.
Maybe because bullet was played live on the mtv music awards all those years ago
Because it was a single

Jimmy Chamberlain
Jimmy Chamberlain
Jimmy Chamberlain. ❤
This made me bawl my eyes out. So many memories.
I know.
This song is triumphant and heartbreaking at the same time. Anguish and hope and rage and love and life and death. Such a human anthem. So brilliant.
Jimmy's tom fills during the chorus are everything to me
Mate, this is amazing. When I was a teenager a friend asked me which famous rock start I'd marry. The answer came immediately, "Darcy Wretzky".
Best song by them
I love them since I was 12 years old with Rocket, one night and one night I felt asleep with the earphones on, on repeat album mode and I woke up with this song, it is my favourite band ever.
by far my favorite pumpkins track. this and 'eye'. both tracks don't get nearly enough love.
He tunes his B string down to A in this song, so it gives the chords a unique sound.
@jaimeflor4181 that's interesting!
'cause all things must surely have to end.. 😦
Still in love with D'Arcy...
A masterpiece❤
one of their best songs
The lyrics...perfection.
Epitaph for a life well lived.....reflections of time passed !!
The first five SP albums are out of this world, this guy is one of the best rock songwriters ever.
I'm born i ' 76 and this song speaks to me. Soma soothes me.
This is one epic performance of a fantastic song!!! That bald guy is just the best!!!!!!!!!!
I won’t even justify that bald guy comment with a response .... oh wait....
I saw them on this tour and it was amazing.
I keep coming back to this song. I wasn't a huge SP fan back in the day, but this song might make a convert out of me...
great song, amazing performance.
ONE OF MY FAVORITES ...THE BEST SMASHING ERA RIGHT HERE
Almost perfect! One of my favorite songs by SP.
OMFG I’m in tears- such fury, such heart ♥️
You may be nuts now, Billy, but this saved my life in the 90s and it just did again.
That is fucking ART
He keeps saving me too
Love it!
2020 and forever
I love love love Billy"s voice
That pretty much sums up the 1990's for me...

Best song on that album

Amazing! always my favorite
I miss that youth...
Simply brilliant man!...
beautiful song from a legend band
So much rocking
I want Jimmy back...

Jimmy so effortless awesome

Exactly....But on the contrary Pearl Jams front man Eddy Vedder mumbled alot of his words....jeez.... No disrespects to PJ though, just my thoughts.
Yes and I totally love his voice.
True, but his whispery sometimes shoegaze singing style makes it difficult for people to hear what he’s singing clearly.
Definitely one of my favs ♥️
I'm so glad they're back! Can't wait to see them in August!
Sonic genius. Love this song
I think it may be my top song by these guys. Just love it.
🌹
The youth in this video took me back for a moment. Really good days. Had to live them to understand.
A perfect song,thank you Billy
Brutal, an excellent rock performance
Well that was F*ing amazing.
James playing that solo was solid. that Les Paul He's playing here is really sweet. never seen him play one like that before. it doesn't seem to be his standard black Les Paul.
they were magic then and they're magic still
HIMNO de mi adolescencia
Awesome 🔥🤘🏻🖤
this is outstanding!! wish I was there...
Cheers Craig!
Love this song. SM still rocks it.
Big Man keep it up Billy, one Love
amazing song
And I knew the echo that is love
Great fucking song. Great performance. Real rock!!
Declaring something underrated has been grossly overstated
We can't all be poets.
Or songwriters .I'm neither .
D'arcy looking hotter than EVER here!
Ikr? Those silver pants....the dark goth eye-shadow o__o
No, Lie, 🤤.
I miss her terribly now they are back together except her “the groove!”
Haha calm down
awesome song, has it all
I'm pretty sure if jimmy wants to be reassured he's a bad ass drummer he just has to look through any pumpkins video comments. All the comments are always about how fucking stellar he is. And I agree 1000000%
What a great live version. Peak Pumpkins here.
I made out with Darcy outside a club attached to the Selby Hotel in 1996. I was 24 years old, a good-looking fit young fellah and brimming with confidence. So good
My favorite pumpkins song those drums 😍
Darcys harmonies really do round out Billy's voice. A shame she isn't there anymore.
