There was actually another survivor. A Guardsman named Andrej Valatok. He was also there when the Lions and Templars fought together. He was actually assumed dead in the battle. But he survived again. He's still on Armageddon to this day
When Grimaldus pulled a Plasma pistol on his own Medic, was that in the book or the fan artists interpretation

Andrej is one of the few basic guardsmen to earn the respect of a astarties let alone a black Templar
I loved when he chant Hero of Hellsreach to him as he leaves and he thinks, “As if there was only one.” Grimaldus, and the scene right before when he ask about finding his loved one.
Andrej is literally my favourite character, I was so sad when I thought he died in blood and fire
Having watched Majorkill since his channel was new - Between his tone of voice each time, and how many times he dipped back to the _"the only survivor"_ concerning Hellsreach? I took this as him being sarcastic. As the Imperium has recorded Grimaldus as being the only survivor.
There in the last couple minutes he really brings it home, to me, that he's being sarcastic: when he points out the Cult of Grimaldus - who use a few things that Grimaldus said inside the chapel as some of their sayings - if Grimaldus were the only survivor... exactly _who_ told these people what he had said inside that chapel? It's the "Cave of No Return" idea... How do people always know what ancient artifact is in this cave that no one has ever returned from?
Honestly for me Grimaldus is at his best (and funniest) when interacting with normal humans outside of combat and just doesnt know how to interact. Like when he met with a bunch of high Imperial personel before the battle of Armagedon where they did nothing but talk about logistics for several days and by the end of it he was just miserable and his friendship with Andrej was not only peak comedy but straight up heartwarming.
"These humans...they remain a mystery to me"...this quote from Grimaldus to Bayard has clearly burned into my mind !

I like how in all Grimadlus' artwork he's never looking where he's shooting because he's too busy looking for something to beat to death.
when you hot drop into the middle of enemy formations you have no need to aim, the holy bolter will fire true regardless.

Grimaldus was the first Space Marine Character I read when I first got into 40k, and by the Emperor Divine Hair he was a total badass who inspired me a newbie at the time to continue to dive into the lore of one of my Universes. He truly is the Hero of Helsreach for motivating a dumb teen to get into the Grim Darkness of the Future, and for that reason he is also my Hero.

I don't blame those last few lions wanting to die fighting then try to save their chapter, the inquisition would've blown them up trying to just leave the planet. Though I do hope one day either Dorn himself avenges them or the Templars
The only way to save them, is to paint them! Then they will arise in the thousands!
Sad thing is that last surviving Celestial Lion became Chapter Master and was killed later by a Callidus Assassin. The Inquisition are a bunch of dicks.

@@thenerfkid9228 But for how long though. The Inquisition are still after them as we can see from the assassination of Celestial Lion chapter master. They would probably not stop until the last of the lion is kill. The chapter is pretty much doom. Thier homeworld was destroyed and they have less than 100 marines left, their primars reinforcements are "lost" in transit and even most of the primaris geneseeds share by other chapters to them got tampered beyond use iirc.

With any luck, they can avoid doom long enough for Rogal Dorn to return and, upon discovering the Inquisition's treachery, vent his almost unequalled rage upon them. We shall have to wait and see however.

Well, they did let him have all the thunder. They just stealthy and _very quietly_ added to the narrative of the Legend that is Grimaldus.
To make him an even bigger Chad, he actually returned the relics of helsreach, to the people of city, saying he had no right to steal from such a group of warriors or something of that.
I love that one guardsman that literally chases after him into orbit so he can get back on the payroll

@@kazansky22 he was reported dead in the battle but lived which is why he went up to the Eternal Crusader to talk to Grimaldus and tell him that he didn't die in the battle and wanted to know why Grimaldus said he did.

Was just reading about chaplains which led me to read about grimaldus, gonna love this one
One of my favorite part of Helsreach was when Grimaldus used the chain that tied his pistol to wrap it around an ork's neck.
My plasma pistol is gone, torn from meat some point in the last two days of battle. The chain remains. I wrap it around the beast's throat, and roar my words to the painted ceiling as i strangle the creature in full view of everyone in the room.
"Take heart, brothers! Fight in the Emperor's name!" The beast trashes as it dies, claws scraping in futility at my ruined armour. I tense my grip, feeling the creature's thick spinal bones begin to click and break. Its piggish eyes are wide with terror, and this... this makes me laugh.

Love the celestial lions....one of my ships in sea of theives is named the celestial lion after them (the lion who killed the warboss was the pride leader dubaku, he was a squad sargent at the time)

Grimaldus is what I think is like, peak space marine writing. He's not an ordinary human, he doesn't pretend to be, but he still connects with them despite belonging to a group where it's not a common thing to do that. Grimaldus is an absolute badass, and was one of the reasons I got into Warhammer all those years ago.

The "I dug my grave" line, probably came from the helmet comm's. I would imagine, everything a Space Marine says is recorded and stored for later use. A high marshal, general, commissar. The inquisition listens for heresy...everywhere.
The inquisition probably released it on other worlds to boost morale.

Grimaldus is legendary, Helsreach is legendary (book, audiobook and the animation all). But as for the Celestial Lions, read/listen to Spears of the Emperor. It's honestly one of my favourite books from Black Library, and the Lions feature in it quite a lot.
I remember waiting for each episode of Helsreach. I've read the book 50+ times. Grimaldus is in my top 3.

Grimaldus was the only Black Templar surviver, in the novel at least. A stormtrooper who met and talked to Grimaldus a few times (and shows the difference in thinking between humans and Astartes) survived as well as a few other guardmen, but the chad says they will keep quiet about it because it sounds better if Grimaldus was the only one
The Helsreach movie was one of the things that drew me back into 40k! Amazingly done

Hey didn't the Black Templars engage The Storm Lord and his Necrons where Helbrect got his hand cut off before Grimaldus saved him, oh then there was a space battle where they boarded the Necrons flagship before driving it into a sun.
I watched a helsreach thing on RUclips. 3 and a bit hours long. It was brilliant, I think that is what brought me to your videos to be honest
I used to convert and paint black tempers as a teen, when the upgrade kits first came out and Helbrecht and Grimaldus first appeared as models. Never knew anything about either of them but your videos have taught me LOADS.

As a side note, it's interesting that the head of Grimaldus' crozius looks suspiciously like that of Jonah Orion's from the Raven Guard (whose origins are unknown, or kept secret by the High Council).

Most likely, it's probably Andrej Valatok who got listed as dead, memorized on a plague by Grimaldus, and subsequently went to complain to Grimaldus in person demanding he scratch out his name on the plague because apparently, the Imperium doesn't pay dead people. He wanted to retire and take his retirement funds lol.
Grimaldus is a strong contender for my favorite Space Marine, he's so human despite not only being a Space Marine, but also a Black Templar.
I want to know...who has the blessed job of keeping the candles on Grimaldus' Powerpack lit during battle.

@@sonnyb7612 No they still exist but the inquisition sabotaged the primaris reinforcement. However they did later receive knowledge on how to make primaris from the emperor's spears

Helsreach being the first ever Warhammer 40k book I ever read, it's story and Grimaldus will always be my favorite and have a special place in my heart. The writing and imagery was so fucking dope, the way I imagined the Shadow Wolve's last stand gave me a boner too as well as the emotion in the writing of Grimaldus' squad last stand in the chapel. Truly inspiring.

Hello Majorkill can you do a video on the timeline. The reason I am asking is because I just got caught up on the Eisenhorn, Ravenor and Bequin books. The thing that bothers me is that the latest Bequin book takes place in like 550.M41. This is really far in the past now so will the 3 book even matter in the overall Galaxy? With the big cliff hanger it ended on I'd hate that nothing would come from it.
There's something so incredibly wholesome about godlike undying warrios having nothing but respect for those under their command for the sheer fact that they're willing to stay and fight with them

Before i decided my first Army, i was actually debating on if i should join the Space Wolves or Black Templars.
But then Chapter Master Valrak informed me of those handful Templars that got a bit insane and slaughtered their own Primaris reinforcements. And at that moment, i thought:
"Yeah, no, going with the space vikings."
Well the Space Vikings have their traitorous moments too. Such as the time when they assaulted the Flesh Tearers in error , Flesh Tearers offer to ceasefire and retrieve fallen brothers from both sides , the Wolves REFUSE and keep fighting.
I can give further context or links that give much further context. The Wolves even slaughtered the Flesh Tearer emissaries sent to the Fang to make peace.
Do i have to point out how INSANE it is for the Flesh Tearers of all people to be saying "Hey let's get over this and be frens"??????
My guy. I hope you like being called a furry. Like that's a concerning amount of wolves. Everything else about them is actually pretty cool. But for the thunderwolves and Logan grimnars stupid fucking hover chariot pulled by wolves suck big hard. Two bolt rounds and the chariot can't move. At least there's an option to use Grimnar without chariot.
Watch the movie again... Andre the Guardsman and around 6 also survived the churches collapse. And the class line "were you injured (to Andre) " yes I had a headache, then it went away..".

Grimaldus is a dude that honestly needs even more books about than we already have. The way he embodies the Black Templar and honestly all Imperial Fists sucessor chapters stubborness is very interesting
I mean, it's pretty clear what grimaldus will do next (listed in likely chronological order):
1. Give a dope rousing speech
2. Drop more badass one liners
3. Kick ass
Only questions are whose ass will be kicked and where.
There was actually a few guardsmen that also survided the temple collapsing on Grimaldus. But officially there was only Grimaldus, because it was much more of a heroic tale.
I wonder if SMs have helmet cameras. It's a common thing with spec ops modern day because their footage can be used to gather intel and that could be a way for people to have seen his last stand practically through his eyes.

Just watched the Helsreach movie this Saturday. Then i woke up on Sunday and watched it again. For me, this video was perfectly timed.
Instant love. My all time favorite character.
Ok, here me out,
Now we know that only one of Alpharius or Omegon is Loyalist. Or this is what we have been told.
But it might be a lie, both of them could be Loyalist(Considering one is dead).
Now we know that Alpha legion invaded the Sol system prematurely because they wanted to show Dorn the weakness in defence knowing Dorn will fortify it. So the loyalist of the two brothers was responsible for this and he died(if it's not other I'm Alpharius).
But after that the other Primarck provided the same map to Horus, despite having the knowledge of fortification. So he must also be a Loyalist.
Andre also survived the last stand mate, him and several other according to him, but it sounds better saying only Grimaldus survived.

2:45 “Sword Brothers” are not part of the “first company”. Black templars don’t work like that. They are in every company and crusade and act as the Sergeants for crusader squads and also in their own unit detachments as elite Melee Squads

If you havent already, the audiobook version of Helsreach, voiced by Jonathan Keeble, makes the story at least 10 times better. I have both read and listened to many 40k books by now, but none had me going back as many times as Helsreach did because of Keebles performance and how on point the story is written.
