  • Follow along as I repair the 2 cracks in my dash top. The dash top is made of a stamped steel base with molded polyurethane foam rubber and a UV-resistant urethane skin on it. That top 'vinyl' layer cracks over time due to contraction rate differences between the aging skin and foam rubber it's attached to. It's easy to fix and for less than $200 it can look new again with some patience and time. You can't find a new dash top for that!

This is probably the first ever video where I see it done from start to the end, with acceptable result :) Thanks

Thanks, I'm happy with the results. The products were simple to use and even with my first try it came out ok. I see people commenting about the 'pricey' padded filler and how it's 'probably cheaper to just get some body putty next time'. The dash filler is about as half as dense as 'Bondo' and cures flexible. Bondo is not flexible enough for dash repairs so don't risk it peeling out and cracking for a few bucks.

@@Ryengoth Exactly! The flexibility is important.

The best finish is to use a vinyl top pattern repair kit after you get the crack filled and levelled. The topcoat bubbled after 1 summer on my initial finishing.

Hi Tubes! Please note that if you use a piece of cardboard as a mixing pallet the cardboard will absorb some of the Ester's in the mix and the end result's can be bad. The filler can be weak. It can also sometimes lift off the surface. Please use a piece of glass or plastic I recommend the glass. Find and old picture frame remove the glass pane. You can get one at Goodwill or what ever second hand store near you Cheap! It is reusable easy to clean for the next time you need it.

It will absorb some but most catalysing polymers have some amount of tolerance to cure properly. Usually for really wet resins I use an alumimum mixing board.

what tool are you using to check to see how flush the rod filler is?

I don't recall. I grabbed it because it would work for popping door panels off and had a straight edge. I think it is a hand cultivator.
