Anyone can spend a lot of money to achieve good results, but it is far more interesting to see it being done at a low cost. I love the word "frugal". It so much nicer than being called "cheap-ass", like people say about me.
My thoughts exactly 💯👍
Bob Ross.
You can possibly restore dashes to better than OEM - some weren't very quality. The dashes from Just Dashes are nice but very spendy. You could make a vacuum forming box and do a amateur version of what JD does. I think the vacuum technique would work best on dashes with no sharp bends - like most of them.
If you aren't frugal you are just wasteful
You are a BEAST! If there was a such things as The RUclips Awards, you’d clean house in the car category! I’m waiting for you to just build a whole car from scraps and trees around your place! 😂
Me too! ;)
I bet he could do it too.
I applaud your skill and patience. I imagine my attempt at this repair would be as lumpy as that clay ashtray I made in 3rd grade art..
I had doubts about this approach but I have to say I’m blown away with how well that looks, can’t wait to see it with the vinyl!
Give you a lot of credit for having the patience to spend sanding, shaping and finishing the Plymouth’s dash. You are a talented auto body man and mechanic who knows what’s he is doing. Thanks for sharing and taking the time to explain the process to your viewers.
Looking forward to the next one!
Wow! I never would have expected those results.
Keep those videos coming, Mike.
You might want to go with 2 breakers...
1 for lights
1 for heat
to keep from overloading and tripping...
Hey brother I've been watching your videos for awhile and the amount of knowledge I've absorbed is unreal...I'm doing some cosmetic stuff on my truck and I swear I hear your voice in my ear about patience etc...keep up the awesome work and GOD bless
Thanks Clint. I’m glad the videos have been useful for you.
I've been wrenching a long time and believe it or not this is the first I've seen this done, thanks for taking me to school weird beard I'll be doing this on my power wagon.
Great job on the dash, I never would have guessed that you could use spray foam and bondo on a dash. Nice trick, keep up the great work. 👍 Take care
I love your low budget approach to this rebuild. It's all been really clever hacks that don't seem like they'd work, but turn out amazing. Keep up the great content dude!
Agreed. Weird Beard's hacks are simply incredible. I learn something new every time I watch.

Km..😅😮😅😮😅😮😮
I give 50/50 odds it's all going to be ok. Lol. The good news is, it kept my 88 year old dad mesmerized the whole time. He loves your video's and even better, I can play them over and over because he forgets everything by the next day!!! God bless the Weird Beard Elder Care Channel!!!
A true Artist at work ,I would have never thought there was any hope for that ol gal.. Nice work.
I've never seen anybody do a dash like that before, great job.
You are right, you are a sculptor. It is so beautiful to watch someone with so much skill. Love your vids Mr. Beard.
Great 👍🏻 Stuff as always 🤠 Electric 💡 Lights, Heater, 120 plug -ins all on separate 20 amp breakers. If your Air Compressor is 120 or 240 volt. Separate breakers are a must do.
You truly are gifted for the amazing work and fabrication that you do to these vehicles. Keep up the good work loving the content. 👍
All I can say is Wow. I wouldn’t have thought you could transform that dash. Awesome work Mike.
Looking good beard! I like how low buck DIY this car is! Gonna be quite the cruiser when you’re done. Thanks for another video
I’ve been here since your first day Mike and your style is top notch. I like that you show the process in real time, not hopping over or around the imperfections that you encounter. I never would have thought of the Bob Ross comparison, but dude, that fits you to a T. Can’t wait for part 3. 👍👍x💯
Bob Ross. RIP.
Couple tips on the foam can , some of those cans are made to spray upside-down , pays to check cuz you'll run out of air ! The other tip is , if you use half a can or what ever and then leave it and try to use it later & it's plugged you can takes the spay assembly off and spray carburetor cleaner through it and that old foam will disappear like magic! You can also spray it down the exit tip on the can !
Nice tips
Love how the creator" ignores lol
if he ended up doing vinyl.. was it necessary to go through all the filler wrk, could it been done with the carved and formed foam repair? just throwing it out there
@@vojislavdragic5090that’s what my thoughts were exactly when he said vinyl instead of paint
@@Speedy123youknowme on the second thought .. glue would melt the foam.. i think
I love how you experiment and save us all from doing sketchy things that we have no idea may or may not work. I'm thinking maybe try a hot knife of some sort and see how it works out.
Take your time I was wondering how you were going to fix that step by step is the absolutely the best way! Looking forward to the next one! Its going to look so nice!
Man I can't wait to see the finished dashboard. I just know it's going to look great
The years you spent in the boat industry paid off, doing fiberglass repairs on boats is way different from auto body repairs, you have integrated both for this repair. Beautiful work on a budget, keep up the great videos and craftsmanship
Really Loving these videos, a suggestion for the screw holes in the dash drill a small hole from the back side to figure the angle and then hit it up from the top with a step drill bit to get the cone shape. Again love this video series and as always stay safe and wish the misses a good recovery.
Great stuff man. I love the fact it isn't like so many RUclips vids showing no labor or thought and Poofff!!! It;s done. It just falls together practically on it's own. Thank you. Also thanks for putting the skirts on the Big Boned Gal. Looks good. I have a 2 door 69 Fury III. Big Boned Gals Rule Lol.
Man there's somthing intensely satisfying about that spray foam noise.
I really thought that dash was trash, amazing skill on your part.
That guy from AAR wouldn’t have the first fuckin clue how to fix that dash. This is the kind of craftsmanship that is actually worth something. Props to you, brother. Keep it up.
😂 Brass Bear I was thinking the same exact thing man! Between him moving more than a band of gypsies and buying a freakin new car every other month I had to cut bait.
100%, seems all he's good at is acting like a big shot and cussing kids out on Instagram comments
@@kimcelarmycx229 Randy and TK are the two biggest jokes on youtube.
So glad Mike cut ties with that loser. I havent watched a video from him in almost a year and I don't miss it at all. His head go too big, too quick, and then he started hanging out with TK and it made things even worse. Mike was going out of his way to help AAR and Randy shit on him. Good riddance, pal!
True all Randy on aar is nothing but a brager and a big mouth I have no use for him or his RUclips channel
Love this project. My dad had a car similar to this one. Brings back memories.
Wow! Unbelievable transformation! Fantastic job. When you started this I said to myself no way you could fix that dash.I was wrong it looks great.
Loving this build series.. the best thing is.. your saving a classic. And using the car like it was ment to be. 👍☺
Never dreamed you could save that dash. Nice work!
Awesome job my friend.
Great job. I would probably give up looking at the time and effort put in. It looks good.
I would never ever consider fast forwarding watching these vids by this master. There's Mr. Norm Abrams Master Carpenter of This Old House, Mr. Bob Ross Master Painter of The Joy of Painting, then there's Mr. Mike Baird Master Extraordinaire Car Guru of Weird Beard. Immensely enjoy the content, Thank you.
Very nice…very educational content. This kinda handiwork is what our youth should be taught in a “shop class” in school. Blessings dude, and thanks.
I was curious why you did not use foam in the v cuts? A sharp bread knife will carve the foam down with less mess. Looking good.
Thanks for showing another way of fixing that rough dash. Sprayway customs has videos of fixing dashes with fiberglass resin and fleece fabric. He does good work too. Keep the awesome vids coming. Can't wait to see the car done.
The dash is turning out to look really good. Your cool demeanor and helpful narrative is very informative. Thanks for sharing this
I really like your format of how you do these videos. It's like we are all hanging out with you while you work. I'm not that mechanically inclined to but I do have some knowledge and I miss working on cars with my dad he was the mechanic in the family. Looking forward to the next one.
I love your attitude towards your projects and the fact that you put in the sweat equity to get the results rather than throwing money at it. All the best from Scotland
Don't apologize for your content. You do an amazing job describing the steps and showing those of us that don't know, the correct process of how it's done. Like you said in the video, you are the Bob Ross of auto repair and that is why I keep coming back. Keep up the excellent work!
Looking Good Mike great job. I learn something new every time I watch your videos. Keep the videos coming brother.
Laying it on smooth. Do I even have to sand this!!!😂😂 love watches you and hearing the stuff you say and walking us threw. Bob Ross dash repair!
Watching your videos is so educational and therapeutic at the same time, thanks.
That's come out absolutely brilliantly Mike. Great to know what can be done with a lot of patience and perseverance, not to mention a whole pile of talent.
I'm looking forward to seeing how you tackle the vinyl. Some steep curves ahead.😁
Wow! you make a real head ache of a dash board into epic art / reconstruction. Fun to see the transformation.
Can’t wait to see the end result. Your Positivity is contagious.
Absolutely amazing how that dash is turning out, the way it looked and compared to now, night and day. Can't wait to see when you're finished with it good job keep up the good work, you do very good work great skills 👍🏽🙌🏼💯
First time viewer. You had said a couple of words earlier in your video that reminded me of Bob Ross. Low and behold several minutes later you said others called you the Bob Ross of car repair @27:36. You are a great teacher with a gentle heart. Keep up what you doing! Lord's blessings to you.
Great video. I love the progress and I watched the whole thing without fast forwarding because I really am enjoying watching the process.
I was about to say about the vynil. Most of these dash rebuilds I have seen people glue vynil on top. I assume a bunch of 3m super 44 and a heat gun you got a brand new dash. I want to do the same thing with my old Merc.
🤣🤣🤣🤣 27:00 I actually could hear Bob Ross’s voice as you described the process of applying “the mud” … and then you said his name. Brilliant!! ❤️❤️❤️
That’s amazing how well the dash is turning out. I wonder how well that will hold up over time? Looks good man , keep up the good work!
Keep up the great work, Mike. It’s amazing how you get this stuff done. Thanks, I love your channel. 😊👍🏻🇺🇸
The Dash is really coming together, your like a sculptor / artist making it look like it did originally.
As that thing was completely trashed before!! hope you can get your electric problems sorted out soon 👍
God bless you man. Been following you on this project and you are doing good. I watched Bob Ross during a period when I was off work ill. He was so relaxing and inspirational. I would go so far as to say, Therapeutic. Stay safe and keep these video's rolling man!!!
I did a dash on a LTD. My approach was a little differant but it is always great to see other examples like yours. I struggled to find any examples of how to go about it when I started. Keep up the good work.
Not boring in the least !!! You are the Bob Ross of automotive !!! I would love to be your apprentice ,you're a great teacher !
I'm one of the one's that likes to follow along during the process! You are a Genius!!! I NEVER thought you would be able to make that dash look like it did when it was new! I thought those cracks and breaks would all but do it in! I probably would have ripped it out and tossed it away and looked for a better one out of a junkyard car! Love following along and watching this boulevard cruiser coming back to life!! Keep going!!!!
Second time I have watched someone do a dash repair. Both done the same. Looks great. Can't wait to see the vinyl on it.
I watched every bit and loved it! You make mudding look so easy!!
This is good stuff Mr. WB!. Love the low cost, low budget, get it going approach projects. You work hard Bro, an inspiration to us all.
Another GREAT video. Never TOO LONG!! Love the way you explain when doing a task. Down to the what you are doing, what to watch out for, and materials used. Others that I occasionally watch just do a lot of talking and what they actually do they show at high speed. You are the ONLY car channel I subscribe to. Can't wait to see the vinyl applied.NH OLDFART
you are an artist i would never have thought of doing it like that idk how i would but that’s a good way to refinish it. looking forward to seeing how you finish up. see you soon
Perfect!!! I have a 2 hour layover in Arizona and this video will make half of it fly by! 🔥🔥🔥
The best channel on RUclips.Your skills are amazing.I hope your wife is recovering well from her recent surgery.Best wishes to you both from Dublin Ireland.
Dash is coming up pretty good so far. Thanks for sharing how you got there.
I like the long videos. As I've never done this sort of stuff before. And I like learning from people who are awesome at it, so long videos aren't boring to me. You are the Sensei, I am the Student. Thank you for your hard work, man. 😀🤟
Lots of work making the dash look good again. Looking awesome. Cant wait to see finished product. Keep up good videos. Never to long man .. hopefully you can get electricity figured out. Bet that drives you crazy.
I wonder if a Dremel would work for the defroster vents 🤷🏼♂️
I actually was just getting ready to do this exact thing on the dash of my 1998 S10, just to see if I could do it! Now I’ve got a step by step template to work from. Thanks man!
we really enjoy this build idk bout anyone else here but soon as i see you post vid on this build i drop everything to watch u
Thanks for that Timothy
Awesome video Mike. Love the work you do you are very awesome and take alot of pride in your work. I feel you have the best channel around. Keep the videos coming and love the mopars
Thanks for the video, I had never seen that before. Most people would have just replaced the dash. Just another reason to watch your channel.
Man. Your so creative. Always figuring out exactly what works to repair things on all your auto projects. 🚘🚗
I just tuned in to your channel and MAN you really ARE...A...BEAST!
The Bob Ross of the automotive world . Can’t go wrong. 👩🎨
I prefer seeing the process... I think you're editing is spot on!!!
I didn't even know this was possible first time I've ever seen anything like this really good job can't wait to see how the vinyl turns out
I completely enjoy the long videos, keep em' coming!
We enjoy watching all your videos mike learn a lot buddy
You are an artist! I never expected to see a decent dashboard arise out of that nearly total wreck.
Most usually when I see lights flicker like yours were, it has turned out to be a loose neutral wire either at the pole or in the breaker box. It would be pretty quick to check and might save a lot of headaches. Love the channel!
Hey keep up the detailed videos. The detail is very therapeutic and enjoyable. Like the Bob Ross of car repair.
It looks really good so far. I look forward to seeing what it looks like when it's done.
You performed magic on that dash. You never fail to amaze me!
That is looking REALLY good. What a huge change! Great work!
My dad was a traditional coach painter. His finishing filler was fine line chalk mixed with primer paint. It took a while to dry but wet-n-dry used wet did a superb job.
You got a new subscriber. Gotta say you are one of the most mellow RUclipsrs I watch. Love the honest hard work. Good job man.
Thanks for subscribing Chris. You’re helping the channel grow and I appreciate it.
That was a smart fix. It is the best I have ever seen , well done man. Thanks for sharing
OK Mike - Once again, I'm impressed. Looking forward to part 3!
only time I skipped is to rewind. you're a master of the craft man. I aspire to have the skills you have someday.
Good job WB. LOOKING forward to seeing the progress 😀 👍
I love all your videos Mike. Keep them coming!
I love your channel! I like how you explain what and why your taking each step and you support beginners too!
Awesome job! i did use the spray foam in my room to fill the gap but after watching ur video here i am convinced thanks for this meticulous job you did.❤️🔥💐🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🙏🏻
Another great video. The results so far are fantastic considering the condition of the dash before the process of repair. Can't wait to see how It turns out once It has been covered. A master at work. Great job Mike. Lawrence from Heathrow London.
Unbelievable!! Grate job!!
You have shown me how to reduce my 1974 TR 4 dash. Instead of trying to find one. Which is probably impossible..
👍👍 Dave from Arizona..
