Thank you for sharing your easy peasey pear tutorial ! I have painted more than a few bowlfuls of fruits over the years! This is quite encouraging for every viewer. So well done Susan, thank you!
Susan, you are a gifted teacher indeed. I love your videos. I to am a mother of 3 boys all grown now with boys of their own! I loved your value and color videos.
I love how the pear seems to come alive with your colors! You make it seem so easy. I'm going to watch this video many times...my first lesson. Thank you so very much.
Hi there Susan! I bought some Prismacolor and some Rembrandt pastels and began my pastel painting journey a few days ago. I made 2 similar paintings for 2 friends and I'm giving them to my girls on Valantnes day to show them how much I love and appreciate all they do for me! Actually they are my PSWs and I love them both dearly. I'm hoping they will like their gifts! I still have to learn to do lights to darks because I am also an acrylic artist and pastels are different from acrylic. I love variety in life and I also love to use watercolour, pen and ink, coloured Pencils, Gouache, graphite, oil pastels, and a bit of photography. Kind of a little of everything! I'm really having a lot of fun with pastels! Thanks for your informative tutorials, they're wonderful!!! Take care!
Hi Michelle, and I’m so excited for you! I am sure your girls will love your artistic gifts! Art is such a beautiful experience and it sounds like you have some well-rounded skills. Have fun and I pray my tutorials continue to bless you.
Pears are fun to paint. My very first art class was in oil painting and I chose 3 pears. I was actually impressed with me! Thank you for a nice simple subject to try Susan.
Thank you for sharing your gift with all of us... watching because I love your art (Watercolor beginner) and your bright spirit. You always encourage me Susan! Kind of in a slump... can't imagine you ever being there😄 Thank you, from a California gramma 😄🌴🌺💕
You are so welcome! And yes, I do sometimes get down... 2021 was a hard year with both my mama and my husband's mom passing away. I am thankful thought that the Lord lifts me up and gives me the hope of seeing them again.
Thank you ... yes, I remember you sharing this with us. My heart hurts for you... Jesus is the great Comforter. Psalm 103... with love Susan, California Gramma ❤
Hi, @user-hg7bm3yf2p. Here is a list in my Amazon Shop of some pastel painting products I recommend for beginner pastel artists. Happy Painting! www.amazon.com/shop/monetcafewithartistsusanjenkins/list/2NY2AMTL7D050?ref_=aip_sf_list_spv_ons_list_d
thanks for the tutorial. ive noticed that when in use my pastels on top of other colours, the pastel gets "stained" and then starts putting the other colour on the page. is there a way to avoid this?
That does happen a bit and I often keep tissues near me so I can just clean the pastels when they seem to have picked up other colors. It might sound laborious, but it gets to be a habit of just wiping them off occasionally.👍🏻😊
This is great and came at the right time! I am looking to practice my values and wanted to work with my soft pastels and just do quick studies, I am also working in black/white with charcoal, but I just love working with colour. I also have the mi tients paper as well!
Wonderful! Looks like you're ready to go! And working in black and white can give you a strong sense of value. Also, if you ever get confused by value when using color, just snap a shot of your pastels and covert the photo to black and white. ;)
Forgive my question, I’m a bit lost on the choice colors for under colors to be applied. Unsure on how to make those color choices , watching you I see your under colors are so different from the top colors which would be the color you are trying to imitate in your picture you are painting from.
That's a great question. Because. you have the ability to layer with soft pastels, it's often a good idea to put down a color that is a bit darker in value first than the final color. This will help to create color contrast. You question would be a good topic for a lesson.
Gina, unfortunately the pastels I used were loosely arranged in a container I made for them. And even though with Nupastels the number is engraved on the side, it often gets worn off with use. I'll try to keep your suggestion in mind for future videos. :)
