I love the way you took an incredibly boring reference photo and turned it into something so beautiful. The power of creativity…
And you did it in 20 minutes

Your painting was much more beautiful and dynamic than the photo you had for inspiration. Your use of the colors really made the picture come to life and turned what was a rather boring looking field into something beautiful. I have inherited my Mom's art supplies and among them was a box of soft pastels. I am hoping to learn how to use them to make beautiful paintings, myself.

You are so talented. The idea of putting multiple colors of same values certainly does make for interesting look. It’s so beautiful before you even finish. You just know perfectly what color to put where and it’s appearance is incredibly appealing. I truly enjoy watching you turn these creation from the opposite colors one would expect to see…. Into a gorgeous piece of artwork. You and your process amazes me. Thank you for sharing your thought process as you paint.

So good to see you and your creations. Thank you so much for sharing and inspiring. Have a wonderful 2022 Karen. By the way, I took this advise from another video of yours, of using the same pallette, and I've painted 2 Completely different scenes. One a winter landscape and another just huge clouds in the sky. I hated the first one and I am loving the clouds. If I had put the pallette away It would have been just a waste of time picking it up. I thought of what you said and voila a painting that I am so happy with, and it's not even done yet. Thanks again!😘

I am inspired by this 20 min. painting you did. It is so vibrant; it really sings! I’m going to be exhibiting my paintings at the senior community where I live in
Tucson, Arizona. These are a variety of media leading up to my recent passion for pastels. Once the show is mounted, I plan on making some small paintings
and completing the commission of an 18x24” pastel of a French Poodle. I did a 9x12 preliminary painting which I am using as a guide for the larger version.

Happy New Year Karen, a very beautiful work of art, and even nine minutes into the painting it would be complete for many minimalist or abstract artists, but you continued and did a wonderful job. Karen, hope all is well. Been having a VERY tough year and was remembering how at peace my soul feels when I watch you paint in pastels. So that's what I'm doing, watching your work. Was wondering if I could use a pool noodle to do the blending as opposed to the pipe insulation. Also, when you are traveling out in nature, do you look at a scene and think of it in layers on your sanded paper? Because of you, I am finding myself doing that! LOL You are truly a gifted pasteler.

Thanks so much for watching my video! I would recommend getting some harder pastels such as Nupastels or Rembrandts as well as softer ones. I love the Sennelier Paris half stick set. These are very soft but give you a good variety of colors and values. Unison pastels are also great soft pastels and also offer a half stick set. Rembrandt has 1/2 stick sets as well. Any of these sets would give you a great start!
