    I really enjoyed the video Chris. The detail was perfect for my needs. I like seeing the evolution of substrates to the point that we are now hearing what WORKS as opposed to what has hit the market by storm.

    I have been converting all of my plants over to a mix of 3 parts lava rock, 1 part pearlite, and 1 part leca. They have all been converted over from soil. They all sit in trays of water. I couldn't tell if your monstera is going to sit in a reservoir or not. Thanks for all the things I have learned from you.

    • @prettyingreen
      @prettyingreen  Год назад +3

      Sounds like an awesome mix!! It’s just sitting in the pot with drainage holes in bottom, and no water reservoir beneath. Works great!

      @@prettyingreenHello, new guy here. Can you explain to me how that works? I thought with leca you should have water in the pot at all times?

    The winged geniculum isn't a 100% safe sign of a large form. A very mature small form (borsigiana) will get them too. The safest way to tell them apart is the leaf shape. The large form (deliciosa) is much rounder than the small form, which is much more elongated.

    I have a question if you don't mind... Do you soak the LECA in water for at least 24 hours before using it? Everywhere online says you need to soak them first. I was curious as I have purchased LECA for my monstera and english ivy.

  • @foreverloved2005

    It looks like you are using very small perlite but I just wanted to check for sure, what size do you use? Any specific size or just the regular kind commonly bought at stores?

    Okay, so you're using no reservoir at home? Do you have a video on that? (I've got your video on no drainage with leca).

    • @prettyingreen
      @prettyingreen  Год назад +2

      Yup, so drain to waste. Just like most typical plant pots with drainage. Water with hydroponic nutrient at every watering every 7-15 days (depending on pot size) ruclips.net/video/m7zAgiFKbfE/видео.html

    So the fizzing/oxidation indicates what? I was doing a little soak on a variegated peru cutting and the spot where the petiole was cut at both ends was fizzing (and was getting increasingly brown so I knew there was a rot issue but still) .

    • @prettyingreen
      @prettyingreen  Год назад +1

      Oxidation indicates theres some life form at the site of fizzing. Ideally you see very little/no fizzing. And cut back until its not fizzing any longer

    Guys what do you do with the aerial roots? Some people pot them in with the roots and some people say not too 🤷‍♀️

    Will you be adding any type of support for your Thai to climb? I've been curious if a moss pole or other support would stay positioned in Leca.

    • @prettyingreen
      @prettyingreen  Год назад +1

      I don’t think so since deliciosa kinda stands on its own well. But positioning a pole in LECA might be a little of a challenge

    What do you pair the 12" 3D pot with holes drilled in it as a water reservoir?

    • @prettyingreen
      @prettyingreen  Год назад +1

      No reservoir actually! Just Perlite / LECA in the pots with holes drilled in bottom. Water about 0.5 gallon every 10-17 days or so! (still determining my interval for the 12" pot size)

  • @LydiaChanNYC

    So with drainage holes and still every 2 weeks? My monsteras are in leca mixed with pon and doing it the way you are, I’m watering once a week. My rationale is that if I’m training them to be water roots, they should always stay semi-wet instead of totally drying out. Am I wrong to think this way??
