This was the best video of seeing how to cure root rot. I rotted my monsters when I switched to Leca and need a miracle to happen thank you for this!!!
I'm SO greatful that you decided to document this whole process!! Super helpful! Especially because SO many people have had rot issues with their Thai Constellations😩 but what a beautiful turn out!😍 This is my favorite Monstera because of how beautiful they are even without any splits in the leaves! This type of veriegation is so stunning!
I enacted the worst root rot I've ever seen on one of my plants on my massive 3.5 year old monstera and this gave me hope. I don't care if it takes one year for each of the six sections, as long as it survives. Thank you!
I started my root rot rescue mission today so my fingers are crossed that it actually does flourish! This was beautiful to watch 😍 patience is a virtue!
I wanted to provide an update! I was a month in and was ready to give up. I pulled it out of the perlite and low and behold there was a root forming and a growth coming!!! That was a month in and I had kept it at a west facing backyard window that gets lots of light! And now at the two month mark I have a baby leaf and a new leaf on the way! Thank you so much!! I'm so grateful you shared your experience and tips!! 💚💚💚
Oh my goodness!! That's amazing! So so glad you've got some root and leaf growth! Patience is really the key but it's so hard to sit and wait when it's a plant we care about! Glad you persisted!
Today I noticed a tiny new growth on a thai I thought I'd lose. The joy can't be described:) I followed your advice for another one with root rot so fingers crossed!
I'm so relieved for you! It's so upsetting to see a much loved plant at deaths door, isn't it? My 6 yr old deliciosa just got severe root rot after i split his roots and put them in too big of a pot with too wet soil (it only took 5 days for the roots to entirely rot 😭) so I'm hoping that the stems i have in perlite with coco coir at the base now will root eventually, but it's great to see your timeline and now how healthy your constellation is! Fingers crossed for everyone treating root rot!
Thanks for the response. I did the deed today. Took it out of soil completely. Trimmed roots, removed all soil from the roots. There is roots but they were very small and and the thicker ones were firm. Did the peroxide dip, rinsed, and I placed in Perlite only and used a cut soda bottle as well to keep and eye on progress. I went ahead and divided the plants with leaves and growth points. Hope I have a similar result.
I was worried it was going to be a sad ending too 😂 very glad it didn't turn out that way! Defo get one if you can afford it or find a good deal! They're beautiful plants!
Sorry, what is the second substrate you used after perlite? I hear "pond" is that correct? Can someone enlightened me? Otherwise great video, I will try to follow your steps with my monstera.
Also, do you think your technique would work with a monstera that is two years old with 6-7 leaves? After how long would you move your thai monstera to a normal airy soil mix such as orchid soil mix? Thats what I'd like to use for mine. Thank you!
I don't see why it wouldn't work. how long it takes depends on the severity of the rot though... but I'd say a more established plant like yours is probably going to grow new roots faster
I'm going to try this and hope it works! They weren't kidding when they said it's super Prine to root rot! Looks like your seller gave you one with several node points which is nice too!
you just gave me hope. I got my monstera a couple weeks ago, bare root. it was packed well but got held up in shipping during a heat wave. I cut off the rot and potted it in soil. A new leaf had started growing in but now it's all brown and not unfurling. the rest of the plant looks healthy including where it's growing from. I'm about to go on operation root save.
Oh no! I always remove rotting leaves just below where the brown starts. That keeps all the healthy tissue and gets rid of the rotting stuff. I defo suggest the hydrogen peroxide root soak, perlite, and a whole lot of patience! Good luck!
First I wanna say you are such a joy to watch!! Thank you for your amazing content I just went through heart surgery so watching your videos have helped keep my mind off things a lot!! The tai looks so good can’t believe how much it flourished after root rot!! Way to go such an amazing achievement!
Great video, I'm going through a similar situation with my Monstera. Can I use any other medium for the recovery phase instead of perlite? Also, in this situation what is a good alternative to hydrogen peroxide for treating root rot?
This gives me so much hope!! I just got a Thai cutting sent in essentially dry sphagnum and it was rotting!! I also made a similar mistake of just shoving the dry roots into leca and it rotted, but I’ve switched it to perlite now and I hope it works!!
I saw this video when it first came out and I am so glad I did because my new Monstera thai constellation just came in with some suprise root rot 😩Only one little leaf has yellowed so far... Thankefully, I still have some good healthy roots remaning after cutting the rotted ones! Watching this video again makes me very hopefull for a full recovery 🤞
I gifted a beautiful plant arrangement to my boyfriends mom. It had drainage holes, but also had a cover pot. Well she must have forgotten that I told her she needs to allow all the water to drain out before placing it back in the cover pot. Needless to say, chaos ensued shortly after. I came over one day and decided to check on it. I noticed it wasn't doing very well so pulled it out of the cover pot and omg the smell that immediately hit me was absolutely horrendous! There was about 3 inches of disgusting, smelly, brown, rotten water. I'm going to try my best to save it. I own about 45 plants myself and this is the first time I've had to deal with root rot. Fingers crossed! It was so pretty 😌
So jealous of that gorgeous Thai constellation, looking fabulous 😍 I have been rehabbing a monstera deliciosa for 7 months and can relate to the excitement over new leaves. 😊 One day I hope to find a Thai constellation cutting that I can acquire with out selling organs lol 😆
Do you think it would be a terrible idea to have it in a humidity box? Like one with holes in the lid for a bit of air flow, but everything else the same. I’m wondering if the humidity would help boost the growth or possibly make the rot come back? I’m trying to rescue my monstera albo in this way and want to make sure I’m not taking steps back
Thanks for you extremely helpful video. I have a couple huge monsteras; however, I am wondering if I have root rot. Can you please tell me what the leaves look like at the first sign of this? Mine are not drying and curling as the images you showed are but, they are starting to get some light yellow coloration around the edges and middle of a lot of the leaves. Should I be afraid?
so lighter yellow colouration sounds more like sunburn or pest damage to me but it's hard to say without seeing pictures. Feel free to DM me if you want more specific advice :)
Thank you so much for sharing this! My monstera sadly has root rot so I followed step by step yesterday hoping for the best!! Question - how long did you water for the perlite to drink up the water? I don’t have what you did so I have a pot w multiple holes sitting in a high saucer with water but it drank it all right up!
I need help my hubby got me a monstera albo for our anniversary and it arrived with root rot in a clear pot thats how i was able to see it i took out and cut immediately the rotten part and placed in water its a highly variegated and its a stem ? With 3 leaves what should i do i don't want to lose it
It’s my first time having monstera thai constellation and it’s dying right now…the drainage was not good and one leaf is turning yellow right now. I’m gonna rescue my monstera hope it will come back to life. Thanks
During the process did you fertilize any or just waited until you planted in pond. BTW…. Great video and beautiful plant. We are dealing with this currently. I bagged into a make shift mini greenhouse and stopped watering. Only must 1-2 X/wk. I too got new leaves but once then is started browning again and all new leaves affected. I am going to try this method starting today. Fingers crossed!!!
This is great info, I’ve just ordered some perlite! I have a monstera that I’ve had to cut right back! It wasn’t expensive but I feel so invested in not letting it completely die 🙈
Great video :) I'm so happy for you that your TC pulled through, fingers crossed that mine does too. What is the substrate you used after the perlite? (More specifically, how do you spell it, so I can look it up :) )
You mentioned something about soil called pon or pond??? Could you further elaborate on this it sounds interesting. I'm always trying different substrates. Thank you and keep up the great work!
Starting this journey today! My baby thai con was doing so good, but then I got overly excited about new growth and up potted it wayy too early. Of course the roots started to rot on me. Now my precious is in perlite rehab and I am hoping she'll make it! Btw did you keep the water level the same(ish) all through the rooting process? I've rooted in perlite before, but I've filled the water to the top, so this is new to me! :D Thank you!
Just wanted to give an update!!! The first month was a struggle, the roots kept rotting and I had to cut away more and more every week. Then I decided to go crazy and cut away a huge chunk of the stem, leaving only one root nub. It finally stopped rotting on me and has since then FINALLY started growing juicy, healthy roots. Now I'm just waiting for there to be enough roots because I don't want to risk my baby rotting again 😅
It might be! Update though, I have tried to save root rot on a pothos with perlite, but it didn't work. I've heard plants like monstera and philodendron really like it and can be saved with perlite, but pothos don't really work
This is such a useful video. You did great saving that baby. I am currently growing a monstera albo cutting in water but thinking of moving it to moss or perlite because one of the two small roots is a bit limp and dark.
I just got a 2 leaf thai seedling for $50 US! But it has root rot! I just cut off the rotted part and am soaking it in hydrogen peroxide. But now do i pot it in moss???
Great deal but shame about the root rot! Personally I wouldn't put it in moss as that stays quite wet and could cause more rot. I'd do the same thing I did with mine. Of course success isn't guaranteed but it's worked very well for my plant and others. Good luck!
@@GoodGrowing thank you so much, I really appreciate your work. I'm in the process to rescue my mother's monstera deliciosa 30years old, more or less, from toot rot. It's a big and pretty plant. I hope it will work. Let 's wait and see. I' ll let you know how it goes. Thank you and take care, Letizia.
Okay sooo yesterday I discovered root rot on my monstera but like BADDDDD like one root was entirely covered in white fuzzy mold. The only thing I could save was 2 stemmed leaves that came with a node or 2. No arial roots, nothing. I decided to pot it in pon and see if it’ll grow (after I soaked it in hydrogen peroxide, rinsed, and let it dry out for a good hour and a half). I had boiled the pon a few hours prior so it was soaked but I’m worried about it causing rot again even though it doesn’t have any roots. I had to burry it very well so it wouldn’t tip over the pot 😭😭😭 HELP
Pon is litterally a miracle medium everything I put in it just thrives and it’s so low maintenance Everything I put into it just throws out new leaves constantly to the point a new leaf starts emerging before the most recent one has even hardened off the only downside I have is that if you drop a plant in pon the pon will go everywhere haha
Yesss pon is amazing! I just transfered a bunch more plants into it because I've had similar results of amazing growth! Just gotta be careful not to drop or knock them. Cuz not only pon will go everywhere, so will the water in the resevoir!
Such a good ending! I'm having this problem at the moment :( What concentration of Hydrogen Peroxide did you use (on the bottle) and how long did you keep it in the mixture for?
Can't wait for Costa Farms to introduce the Monsteria Thai Constellation. It's gonna drive the price of them down. Super thrive helps with shock when transplanting.
I just got a cutting recently and it came planted in Pon! Can you tell me how to water your Monstera Thai in Pon? Like it baffles me but clearly Pon is the best for an MT😆😆
so I keep mine in a water resevoir so like the bottom 1/4 of the pot sits in water, but the cutting is above the 1/4 mark in the pon. Does that make sense?
So happy to see it revive.. I’m stressed about my monstera deliciosa.. I actually had to water propagate it but there was no visible node so i decided to cut it like an inch below the aerial root and dipped the aerial root into a water jar. But they kinda look mushy.. I really don’t know where I’m wrong 😑☹️ Please help if you have any info.. thank you
I’m doing this to my Thai as I have root rot. Question for you! Did you leave it submerged in water the whole time or did you take it out of the water after a few hours?
I left it with 1/3 of the perlite at the bottom submerged in the water. The roots didn't go down that far so they weren't soaking, but they had what they needed that was absorbed by the perlite
I think mine will arrive in airy soil mix with alot of soil roots ready already, hopefully my super airy mix will make it stay healthy here as well and my glass cabinet maybe?!!¡ The woman who sold it to me this time is AMAZING, a total PRO with Thai Cons, especially in soil is what I've noticed which is AWESOME just that!¡ Sooo, I think I won't change that to much, because soil is my wish for it anyways so a big headstart in just that is worth alot just that I believe!¡ 🤔🌿 My favorite plant for sure and it haven't even arrived yet...💕 It's also very rooted in soil + BIG and a node cutting with big leaf so I'm optimistic❣ ((Not like the other expensive 3-4x TC disasters I've gotten before this one which definitely didn't make it either ofc)) The last 1 I got((which made me think smarter + wait for the perfect opportunity instead)) was shipped bare rooted/dry AF & all brown n' mushy like 5 weeks old salad that's been out in the summer heat without anything preserving it, all rotted everywhere, DEAD SOSO DEAD yah know. And only after like 2-3 days of shipping in the same country not far away from me.. Probably dead when packed... 🤔 The seller was not even discussing the bad shipping, at all and ofc no refund or anything. Just a total ultra Bitch about it((if I can be a little ruder than usual atm, pisses me of thinking about it as a very low income woman))... A bad "hustler" in my opinion.. But hey, she got me... 😵 No more words needed for that though.. Just a purely bad person, SUPER MEGA ULTRA BAD in every area... 👎🤐🖕
Hi, this video is amazing! I have perlite and I’m just wondering if you just water it and how often you do? I’m not sure how long my plant has been suffering and if I can fix it up. I’m just curious as to the process you followed if this makes sense.
Thanks! I just topped up the water when it looked low. I tried to keep it around 1/3 of the way up the pot. The roots sat above that so they just got water from the perlite, weren't submerged. Always worth giving it a try! Good luck!
Merry Christmas 🎄 thank you so much for this video. I recently bought a Thai cutting with 4 big leaves. I was told to put it straight in soil & I noticed it didn’t look very happy ystday so I took it out & it’s rotted! I have no roots! I’ve put it in water but after seeing this can I send u pics on insta for advice please? X
Wow! Crazy journey but a good warning to the rest of us if we get a plant and the roots weren’t protected. Do you mind me asking where you’re from? I’m thinking you’re living in England because you talk about pounds instead of dollars but you don’t sound British. And, you said “soda bottle“ which is what it’s called where I live, as opposed to pop… are you originally from the US? If so, where? I’m in Pennsylvania, just outside of Philadelphia. Thank you for sharing!!
@@GoodGrowing Cool! That must be fun! I’ve always wanted to visit England but now I’m disabled and the thought of a long plane ride, in my condition, doesn’t sound fun… but I enjoy TV shows that take place there so I get to see some of it, lol!! Thank you for answering!! 😊
I looked at your hair and thought "Wow, you're variegated too!"
😂😂 that’s a good one

Pon yes. A video about pon is on my list for the new year so keep an eye out :)
I think those smaller leaves are sucker leaves; you should eventually remove them as it takes the energy off of the main stem.

What’s “pon”? Is it a type of soil?
Pon is short for semi-hydroponics and refers to the inorganic substrate that’s usually paired with a water reservoir
How often did you water the rescuing monstera?
I watered when I noticed the resevoir getting low. I tried not to let it dry completely
I’m going to try this with my monstera adansonii. Thank you for the video.
That’s a great price! So happy it’s saved!
Time for the light cycle ?
I keep my grow lights on for 3-7 hours a day depending on the season. If a day is particularly dreary though I'll put them on all day
Pon is litterally a miracle medium everything I put in it just thrives and it’s so low maintenance Everything I put into it just throws out new leaves constantly to the point a new leaf starts emerging before the most recent one has even hardened off the only downside I have is that if you drop a plant in pon the pon will go everywhere haha
Yesss pon is amazing! I just transfered a bunch more plants into it because I've had similar results of amazing growth! Just gotta be careful not to drop or knock them. Cuz not only pon will go everywhere, so will the water in the resevoir!
What is pon? The CC said pond. I've never heard of it. I have several Monsters and want to be prepared. thanks.
Love very much your story..... Lots of roller coaster emotions😊😍❤️
This is a great video! How often do you change or refill the water when its in perlite?
Thanks! I never explicitly changed the water. I just topped it up when it was lower than 1/3 of the way up the pot
Beautiful plant
Such a good ending! I'm having this problem at the moment :( What concentration of Hydrogen Peroxide did you use (on the bottle) and how long did you keep it in the mixture for?
Oh no! I hope you can save your plant! I used 3% food grade hydrogen peroxide. And I just kind of dipped it in and left it for a minute
@@GoodGrowing Thanks so much! I have a bottle of 50% so lucky I didn't use that without diluting it haha
@@ellemcfadzean Oh wow yeah good you didn't use it! could have been real bad for your plants!
Can I put it in water without dipping it in hydrogen peroxide?
yeah but be careful for root rot
Can't wait for Costa Farms to introduce the Monsteria Thai Constellation. It's gonna drive the price of them down. Super thrive helps with shock when transplanting.
that will be a good day! good to know super thrive helps. I'll have to give that a go next time I transplant!
@@GoodGrowing Ah okay! Got it thank you so much 😁😁
This is my dream plant! 😱😱😱😱😍😍😍😍😍
So happy to see it revive.. I’m stressed about my monstera deliciosa.. I actually had to water propagate it but there was no visible node so i decided to cut it like an inch below the aerial root and dipped the aerial root into a water jar. But they kinda look mushy.. I really don’t know where I’m wrong 😑☹️
Please help if you have any info.. thank you
It's tough to know without seeing it. Feel free to DM me over on IG with some pics and I may be able to better help!
That’s what happened to me n now it’s dying I need advice
can I use pumice instead of perilite? =( should I mist the pumice daily? thank you
Yeah I don't see why not. They're fairly similar. Good luck with your root rot! You got this!
How many hours a day did you leave your Thai under the grow lights?
It was usually around 5-7 hours a day in addition to whatever daylight there was
What a wonderful save video 💚
Did you dip it in hydrogen peroxide the second time?
No I only used hydrogen peroxide the once
I’m doing this to my Thai as I have root rot.
Question for you! Did you leave it submerged in water the whole time or did you take it out of the water after a few hours?
I left it with 1/3 of the perlite at the bottom submerged in the water. The roots didn't go down that far so they weren't soaking, but they had what they needed that was absorbed by the perlite
@@GoodGrowing Hi! Did you wet the perlite before using it? Or just put the roots in and added 1/3 water? I found my Thai with root rot today 😭😭😭
@@joesdi Oh no!! Yeah I used wet perlite. Washing your perlite is really important as well to get all the dust off
I think mine will arrive in airy soil mix with alot of soil roots ready already, hopefully my super airy mix will make it stay healthy here as well and my glass cabinet maybe?!!¡
The woman who sold it to me this time is AMAZING, a total PRO with Thai Cons, especially in soil is what I've noticed which is AWESOME just that!¡
Sooo, I think I won't change that to much, because soil is my wish for it anyways so a big headstart in just that is worth alot just that I believe!¡ 🤔🌿
My favorite plant for sure and it haven't even arrived yet...💕
It's also very rooted in soil + BIG and a node cutting with big leaf so I'm optimistic❣
((Not like the other expensive 3-4x TC disasters I've gotten before this one which definitely didn't make it either ofc))
The last 1 I got((which made me think smarter + wait for the perfect opportunity instead)) was shipped bare rooted/dry AF & all brown n' mushy like 5 weeks old salad that's been out in the summer heat without anything preserving it, all rotted everywhere, DEAD SOSO DEAD yah know.
And only after like 2-3 days of shipping in the same country not far away from me..
Probably dead when packed... 🤔
The seller was not even discussing the bad shipping, at all and ofc no refund or anything.
Just a total ultra Bitch about it((if I can be a little ruder than usual atm, pisses me of thinking about it as a very low income woman))...
A bad "hustler" in my opinion..
But hey, she got me... 😵
No more words needed for that though..
Just a purely bad person, SUPER MEGA ULTRA BAD in every area...
👎🤐🖕
Ya I killed mine… 😞
Can you do a video on different potting soils
Yeah for sure! Amazing idea thanks :)
@@GoodGrowing thanks I’m so excited I’m new. At having plants and your videos help me soo much! Thanks
Love watching, learned a lot and you are sweet!
Good luck!
I have just bought a tiny 6cm thai constellation i am so nervous something might go wrong 😢🤞
Oh no, don't stress too much! Just keep an eye on it! I've got my fingers crossed for you! Good luck
@@GoodGrowing thankyou so much 😍
This is a good rescue 💚
Your hair looks so dope
I hope my monstera makes it🌱
Thanks! and good luck!
Can you do a full video about growing with pon? Pretty please. 🥰💜
Yes I totally can! Thanks for the suggestion
Incredible!! Amazing job!!
Thank you
My cutting is rotting. I hope i can save it. I'm gonna cut off the leaf and the spots and hope it bounces back. This gives me hope.
Oh no! Good luck with the rescue mission! I hope it's a success!
Do you have an IG I need help please my plant is dying, I just took it out of the dirt n washed it it’s now drying n I don’t know what to do
yeah my IG is @goodgrowing
Thanks for sharing I hope my Monstera Albo will survive.
Wow! Amazing! 😊❤
Congratulations, a happy ending 🌿🌿🌿
Fantastic! Excellent job! 👍✨
Thank you!
Thanks for this.....I'm.
gonna see if I can rescue my monsters right now. #prayforme
Yeah it was certainly a bit of a roller coaster!
Im from California originally but live in London now
@@GoodGrowing Cool! That must be fun! I’ve always wanted to visit England but now I’m disabled and the thought of a long plane ride, in my condition, doesn’t sound fun… but I enjoy TV shows that take place there so I get to see some of it, lol!! Thank you for answering!! 😊
*OMG I'M SO HAPPY I BUMP ON TO THIS VIDEO!!! NOW I WANTED MY MONSTERA TO SURVIVE AND NEEDED A PERLITE ASAP 😭*
so informative... lovely... keep going ...nice plant indeed
Thank you
