Excellent content as always! Some bonus tips from someone who works in optical... 1. Tint does not equal UV protection. Clear, non-tinted lenses can (and should ALWAYS) have UV protection, and cheap tinted lenses probably won't have any UV protection. Cataracts, macular degeneration and a number of other ocular diseases are worsened or have earlier onset with UV exposure. 2. If you want to get prescription lenses and have a high prescription (high + or -), ask for the highest index possible/that you can afford. The higher the index, the thinner and lighter the lens (for the prescription). This is especially important for larger frames (aviator, wayfarer styles), since heavy lenses can cause your glasses to become front-heavy and slide down your nose all the time. 3. LCD screens are hard to read with polarized lenses due to how the lenses filter light, this does not occur with tinted lenses, so consider whether or not you will need to frequently use phones and other devices (computers, restaurant menus) while wearing glasses. 4. Provided the frame is not excessively large or small, most opticians can adjust glasses purchased elsewhere (for a fee) to fit you perfect. So if there is a pair you love and it's just a little off, loose, askew, it may be something that can be fixed. Thank you for coming to my comment section TedTalk :)
I always feel very fancy when watching this channel. I'm not very fashionable myself but these videos are still entertaining and let me learn how deep mens fashion really can go.
As a ten year old I saw the original Top Gun in the theater and here I am today; finally rocking some RayBan aviators with prescription polarized G15 lenses. I’ve arrived!
Great to see the OP Cary Grants make an appearance, they are beautiful, and the packaging (especially the suede case) is amazing. They also do a great wayfarer style too in the Oliver and the Ollis. The Oliver collaboration with Brunello Cucinelli with the Olive smoke frames is frankly a work or art.
I bought a pair of Persol 714SM's this summer due to the unseasonally hot weather we're currently having in the UK. They're not cheap but they look the business. I practically haven't taken them off since I got them, I love them! I've had a lot of admiring comments, but no one has mistaken me for Steve McQueen yet sadly lol.
I saw, I clicked! I don't think there's a Gentleman's Gazette video I don't like. Of course, their ate videos I prefer over others. I've always loved the aviator style sunglasses ever since I found a Polaroid photograph of my old man sitting at his station. Thanks to the old prison movies, I own a pair of gun metal frame aviator sunglasses with mirror finish lenses.
Wayfarers are also the best sunglasses to wear when fighting Daleks and Cybermen. Seriously, it’s actually why I own a pair, though they’re fantastic in their own right.
Wayfarers are my go to style. ALWAYS go for a darker color frame. It literally always goes with everything. Love all 4 of my frames. My medium black frame with grey lens is my everyday carry.
Excellent recommendations as usual. Please remember that photochromic (“Transitions”) lenses may not darken inside a car, because the windscreen glass will stop the UV parts of the light. I use a fixed-tint pair of prescription sunglasses for driving. Polarising lenses are available as fixed tint prescriptions - my all round favourite shades.
This'll help me alot in picking out a fitting pair of sunglasses! Thanks for the styling videos that keep on pouring in! You guys are a huge insipiration!

My favourite pair of sunglasses I own are my ray ban Caribbean frames with the striped Havana finish and green lenses I highly recommend them for any gentlemen interested in late 50s or 60s eyewear they look very sharp
I always enjoy picking up vintage or antique glasses at flea markets or antique stores; you can find often them for less than ten dollars. Then I take them to an optical shop to have nonprescription, tinted lenses put in. Around me new nonprescription lenses only cost $50. Much cheaper than a set of modern glasses, and often better made!
I've worn small sized teashades for years now. Functional, but both retro AND timeless, like Chuck Taylor shoes. They fit my face shape perfectly and look good with anything I'm wearing.
Been collecting seriously since 2006. I’ve moved away from Luxottica to independent makers now, and love the variety. I’d say I’m most partial to titanium and cotton acetate frames, with glass or left field lense choices. Once you’ve been collecting for a while, you realise it’s a much of a muchness at the high end market, and often it’s the story sold that clinches it.

Not to tear this video apart too much, because I realize it’s older and this is a general menswear channel rather than an eyewear channel, but for anyone who has read this long keep these things in mind: 1. Ex: Barton Perreira, Cutler and Gross, Jacques Marie Mage, Mr. Leight, Alhem, Lucas de Stäel, Lesca Lunetier, Matsuda, etc… 2. There are man types of photochromic lenses other than Transition Gen 1-8 that do different things. Look at different lens brands such as Hoya, Shamir, Zeiss, etc… and look at the many types of photochromic lenses they carry to see what best fits your daily needs. 3. Already mentioned, but tint nor polarization = Any UV Protection at all. Certified lenses such as Zeiss, Essilor, Hoya, etc… should provide 100% UVA, UVB, and UVC no matter what tints or coatings are applied to the lens. So rather than fret over darkness, do some research and understand what lenses you are getting. 4. Make sure that the acetate of your frames is either Mazzucchelli or Takiron acetate unless you know that the manufacturer is using another reliable acetate. 5. Face shapes are an absolute marketing myth. Understand what your A, DBL, B, and E fitting measurements are to get a good fit. Also don’t use spring hinges to try to get a frame that doesn’t fit to fit. If you get a spring hinge make sure that the construction is made durable, but generally try to avoid spring hinges. 4. Overall try to focus on what hinge designs you are buying on your frames. Hinges are the MOST vulnerable part of the frame and without proper construction can ruin your frames. Try to get frames with 5 barrel hinge constructions or better. The more barrels the sturdier the construction(physics). 5. Try the best you can even though it costs more to either get pure titanium or beta titanium frames(include metalwork that’s on acetate frames). Thank you for coming to my eyewear TED talk.

I say, even a modern look Oakley is ok for a suit so long the design fits. Remember in the past the Raybans where not a classic item they were brand new
I tend to agree look at aviators for example. They were designed and created for pilots during wartime. The design because of that became what it is today. Looking back too the Oakley's they are very prevalent in the military world. I could see overtime much like with the aviators the utilitarian becoming fashionable.
I truly do not know how to order sunglasses in my size or how to get sunglasses that fit my face. I’ve bought tons of sunglasses over the years and they often times end up too big for my face. How do I figure that out?
" if you care about style, never buy Oakley glasses"! Me looking at my 3 pairs of Oakley fives squared...ouch that hurted! Joke apart, even if they're a very tame and neutral Oakley model, I believe that would be terrible with anything over smart/business casual. Also, used to buy 15$ shades but the vision from the lenses was iffy and they would break very easily if I dropped them. My cost per wear, not counting the perks are a lot better with a quality pair. (edit, several typos)
@@gentlemansgazette No offense taken, I see where you're coming from. As a man in my thirties, I live in a small city where "bbq casual" is the norm, even at work and with kids it's not getting easier to dress nice. Baby steps, but it's still something and I do get complements now and then. :)
Well unknowing I give myself style points for avoiding mirrored glasses and the ubiquitous Oakleys. I prefer tortoise shell frames and brown lenses. I find myself wearing the Cary Grants or Pantos for the most part.
I used to wear sunglasses, I loved aviators and Air Force shooters pilot glasses but honestly you don't need them. For thousands of years nobody created any, and nobody seemed to go blind up until the era of the blue light surrounding everybody's face at every angle. Everywhere you shop anymore is playing a TV surrounding folks with EMF and fluorescent lighting. My eyes used to painfully water outside without sunglasses. After much research and a gentle weaning, now I only wear them on a sunny snow covered day, and that's it. All summer no sunglasses and I sleep much better (the body produces much melatonin when eyes are exposed to both sunrise and sunset)
Correct, although there are a few exceptions where sunglasses are needed: high glare situations, especially whilst driving, and when fashion takes priority.
@luke5100 Yeah, eyelashes and squinting can only do so much, and people didn't really live long enough then to notice the detrimental effects of UV exposure

One of the main benefits of polarization is for driving, as they reduce glare from horizontal surfaces, so absolutely yes.

And i have a Oliver people eyeglasses dark Red tint
Randolph...if you like the best.
I have Ray Ban Aviator and Clubmaster
" if you care about style, never buy Oakley glasses"!
Me looking at my 3 pairs of Oakley fives squared...ouch that hurted!
Joke apart, even if they're a very tame and neutral Oakley model, I believe that would be terrible with anything over smart/business casual.
Also, used to buy 15$ shades but the vision from the lenses was iffy and they would break very easily if I dropped them. My cost per wear, not counting the perks are a lot better with a quality pair.
(edit, several typos)
The Oakley's in Ferrari red that Kimi Raikkonen used to wear are absolutely awesome. Such a deep red color.
As we hope it came across in the video, no hard feelings were meant! :)
@@gentlemansgazette No offense taken, I see where you're coming from.
As a man in my thirties, I live in a small city where "bbq casual" is the norm, even at work and with kids it's not getting easier to dress nice. But thanks to you guys, I did take a few steps in dressing better. Polos or henleys instead of t-shirts, less athletic shorts and more "dressed" shorts and chinos. Baby steps, but it's still something and I do get complements now and then. :)
Enjoyable video.....
For the Fashion vs. Style File: Any minute now, watch for the return of Ray-Ban "Wings"
Can’t go wrong with a Clubmaster, a Wayfarer and an Aviator.
O God i love shades
Pit vipers
Well unknowing I give myself style points for avoiding mirrored glasses and the ubiquitous Oakleys. I prefer tortoise shell frames and brown lenses. I find myself wearing the Cary Grants or Pantos for the most part.
love watching these guys , the most awkward looking dudes around , they just look so out of place and uncomfortable it's hilarious
James Bond wore Cool-Rays
Preston the Killer in black .
He has " un air de" matrix movie.
I like it. It's not funny, It's stylish.
I just had to watch.
My choice for sunglasses it would all depend on what type of clothes I would wear.
See! It all makes sense. :)
Highly upset pit vipers were not included
Preston I get the Men in Black but you look like Agent Smith from the Matrix, that's a fact.
I disagree with the oversize slander.
Tf is this gentleman doing here doing the complete video
There’s nothing wrong with a pair of flyfishing waders and a vest.
Calm down guy. It's a free country
@@solidus1995 I am calm, I'm simply Illuminating the public, especially when you have a lot of people going unnaturally blind early in life because of blue light from their screens and weaknesses from sunglasses. People act like it's a necessity but it's a crutch and with my freedom of speech I'm letting people know. Don't squash my freedoms because you don't like the truth
@@LatimusChadimus I don’t remember anyone asking
Avoid the Oakley's!!! Louder for the ppl in the back!
if you want to protect your eyes stay at home and close your shutters, who wears sunglasses for protection? I wear mine at night.
Pro tip, make sure they offer proper uv protection, don't pay more than £15.00. sorted.
It's really that simple 😉 also fishing gear is stylish 😃
My friend called these molester shades!
Since Biden wears aviators the style will soon be DOA
