Fun fact: Jonathan and Charlotte voice actors are Takahiro Sakurai and Yumi Kakazu who voice Cloud and Yuffie in Final Fantasy VII media.
I'm gonna sell out real quick and say that the twitch on the stream layout is wrong, my twitch is twitch.tv/VB_speedruns
Thanks to everyone for watching and the love and support too 💜💜💜
still can't find your twitch
@@Balduin2000 sorry for late reply it's twitch.tv/BrookeSpeedruns now
Jonathan!
Charlotte!
Seriously though, I love this game.
Me too. One of my favorite Castlevania games. All the Castlevania games on the DS are great.
@@jjc4924 except for DoS
@@wallacesousuke1433 DoS is a great game
Great run! This was actually the first Castlevania I played and got me hooked on the series!
Seriously some of the best Castlevania games were on the DS.
And Aria of Sorrow on the GBA.
@@jjc4924 Circle of the Moon and Harmony of Dissonance are pretty great too
@@domikarus5237 CotM nope
@@domikarus5237 HoD is one of the worst CV games for sure, with equally terrible soundtrack
@@unlcky_mtfkr CotM is a top tier game
I have never seen this particular Castlevania in action, but wow the enemy design is great! Gonna have to try this one out
I think it’s interesting over 10 years later, Castlevania fans now consider Portrait the best of the DSVanias. But when it originally came out, it was pretty divisive. I don’t think many considered it better than DoS, let alone one of the best Vanias.
Yeah, but I think quite a few people's opinions on PoR back in the day were soured when they ran into the Death Boss Room softlock. But everyone playing PoR nowadays knows about it and how to avoid it, so it's not a big deal anymore.
What fans? OoE is the best in almost every way
@@wallacesousuke1433 are you talking about the many weapons option in OoE ? Or the Crab or Dracula's castle bosses? Or the replayability value with just one extra mode ? Or the epic final tag team boss?
I feelt the same. Today this is my opinion. I only put it bellow SoTN just because
The characters personalities were kinda lame and the anime style is super gross, but everything else about PoR was amazing, ESPECIALLY the sound design, their voices sound super crisp HD
One of my favourite Castlevania game! Great job!

Man I love this game! And with bloodstained: ritual of the night consuming most of my time in the last couple of days, this is a nice change of scenery.
Me too.
It's just got a new update and New castle areas today
This masterpiece made it to gdq I can die happy :,)
Great shoutout to Furkay , damn that were times when we tried to get the WR and we were soooooo happy when he finaly got it once
ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!! that sisters fight is so hard and you can just juke her and she never attacks?!
Wow. I'm kicking myself on that one. Damn.
Quick clarification on a comment the runner made: Portrait of Ruin actually came out about 13 months after Dawn of Sorrow, not 7. Dawn of Sorrow's initial release date in Japan is August 2005, whereas Portrait of ruin's initial release date in Japan is in November. Not a big deal, as the main point is there's a lot of little oversights in Portrait.
It wasn’t produced by the same team as I believe they had already started working on Portrait while Dawn was being developed.

Order of Ecclesia is my favorite in the DS trilogy, as well.
Mine is still Portrait of Ruins. But it doesn't matter which is better. They're both still amazing games personally.
@@jjc4924 100% agreed. Arguing over which is better is just stupid. I love coming back to these DS Castlevania games so nostalgic
Only one of the three I never finished (not because I didn't enjoy it, I got genuinely completely stuck on a boss even with guides and I'm just too old to put in the time)
Must fish out my 3DS and play it through.
@@hairymcnipples You can do it :)
dont get me wrong i love all the ds castlevanias but man portrait of ruin was just a cool title great sprites great ideas such as the dual players and paintings that transport you to hellish areas.much respect to all 3 castlevanias love them all.
My favorite part of the run was when Johnathan said "Charlotte!", though the part where Charlotte said "Jonathan!" is a very close second
this is a great Castlevania game!
Great gameplay, guys! =)
My personal favorite of the DS Castlevania Trilogy. All of them are great. But this one is alot of more fun personally & it's one of my favorite games of all time.
This is my favorite of the portable Castlevanias.
Amazing game, stellar soundtrack. The pre-order bonus that came with it is one of my fav items in my gaming collection.
Just recently played through this game for the first time time. Casual players watching this can’t imagine the skills that this guy have. It’s absolutely crazy.
My second favorite Castlevania, after, of course, SOTN.
I always thought back dash switching was faster but it has been so long since I've played this I'm probably wrong. Nevermind. Slick boots ftw.
Backdash switching is technically faster than slide switching before you get slick boots, it's just very difficult and you have to be almost frame perfect for it to be faster so no rta runner really does it.
I've beaten every mode this game has, I love it to bits (Except City of Fools/Burnt Paradise), and I never knew some of these strats.
I've never played PoR myself, but Old Axe Armor Mode seems like it'd be a bit of a pain to unlock, and Sisters Mode doesn't look very interesting to play. However, the rest of the game looks amazing.
51:45 Yo, I did NOT expect to hear that name here 💀 Love you Richaad!
That ghost must be so confused with how many times you've left the shop...
We are long overdue for a side scrolling castlevania game tbh. If they release one of the switch I'd buy it in a heart beat.
i come back to this one for 20:16
I have a DS Lite I was going to sell it but thanks to AGDQ I'm going to keep it and get some GBA games.
52:45 RichaadEB has donated 250$ what a legend
he also does amazing guitar covers of videogame soundtracks on youtube, go check em out!
This run makes me really doubt I properly beat this game. I mean, I thought I beat it, but......I don't remember getting sanctuary so.......
Well Sanctuary in PoR is kinda like the Holy Glasses in SotN, in that you're locked out of the second half of the game and stuck with the bad ending if you don't have it.
Dracula was defeated, and Data was saved! It was a good fight all in all.
I think it's kind of a shame that there's the infinite potion glitch, makes taking damage feel entirely consequence free
(sorry for late reply, I only check comments on here intermittently) I actually agree to some extent that in a marathon it does remove some of the excitement however it raises the skill floor and ceiling a lot because it makes it such that new runners can finish runs more consistently at the cost of losing time to healing, in my PB (and every top 3 runner's PB) I pretty much only heal when absolutely necessary. If you're interested in a run that doesn't have an infinite potion glitch I'd check out Order of Ecclesia Any%, which I'm hoping to run at a GDQ one day myself :)
Anyone tell me how to use Japanese voice in English voice?
To use Japanese in the English version, on the title screen, make your selection, hold L button and press A. You'll hear "Showtime!" as confirmation.
30:32 didn't that one get patched tho?
Yes
There's a Castlevania anime?
It's a Netflix series mostly based on Castlevania III. If you're particularly fond of Grant, then I regret to inform you that he's been excluded from the show. But otherwise, it's a treat for any Castlevania fan, as long as you don't mind some gore here and there.
jruler93 I’m not even a Castlevania fan and it’s a treat. I got interested after the Belmont’s inclusion in Smash and I’ve gotta say the show is great, though definitely a bit violent.
Personally, I think the first season is great and the second season is kind of mediocre because it makes too many departures from the series and is more dopey vampire game of thrones than an adventure story, but the animation is good either way, I suppose.
Even though I don't like castlevania I'll watch this
