Learn how to remove sublimation ink from a tumbler!
Who doesn't absolutely love a super cute tumbler? But, whether you make them for yourself or to sell, we've all run into the dreaded sublimation mistake. It might have a printing mistake or a poor transfer, but your tumbler is not trash! Don't worry, I'll show you how to remove sublimation ink from a tumbler to save your cup. There are ways to do damage control on a sublimation error, and I can't wait to share them with you!

Great info, Jennifer! Thank you! I messed up a tumbler so I had my husband spray paint over it with flat matte black and then put white vinyl on it "SMOOTHIE" and it's now my dedicated smoothie tumbler.

Hi Jennifer, great video! I have done the oven trick to remove sublimation in the past but did not bake for longer than an hour. Mostly they were pretty clear (faded) at 45 minutes nothing close to 4 hours whew! Last week I tried a coffee mug and it worked on that too.

I can't tell you how many times I've bought a tumbler and didn't like the mass produced art work or logo on it. Good to know there's a remval way.

I do have one question about the epson printers to convert to sublimation printers. Do you know if you can convert any epson printer to be a sublimation printer or just the models that you mention? Once again, thank you for your wealth of information, it is greatly appreciated.
You can convert almost any of the ecotanks!
I use a cotton ball and pure acetone from the beauty supply store to remove sublimation errors. I can not use regular acetone from retailers because it's not strong enough. This works immediately for me.

This is great advice. I have several to fix lol...Thank you. I do have one question. How do you get the vibrant colors on a travel tumbler that is powder coated? This on is also a tapered tumbler.

Do you have a tutorial on setting up Epson printer with a Mac for sublimination please as my colours printed are always different to what’s on the screen.

It works better with a darker cover up.

Jennifer, any hints on removing the yellow tape residue on a coffee mug.

There really is no place for the gas to go in a tumbler press but you can use a heat gun. jennifermaker.com/sublimation-color-problems/
Looks like the link to the design is broken. I was able to find it in the Library, though. It's beautiful! Thanks for this tutorial. I have a couple "oops" tumblers from the htvRont unevenly heating or mis-applying pressure. Not sure which, but it seems to appear in the same section of the press on all the tumblers, so I needed this!

Do you have to use a convection oven? I have a small toaster oven I use with polymer clay. Seems that if I’m rotating I wouldn’t need convection. Kim doing mugs not tumbler

I have sublimated shirts and they came out beautifully. This is the first time sublimating on a Tumblr and I was doing a project that was pink and it turned out almost white, so decided to cover it with one of your phoenix, and when I printed it, the black area looked light gray and the red area look like a light orange but l press it anyway and the black is just like a very light lavender gray i don’t know what settings I should have it on what I did wrong. I am very, very new to sublimating on tumblers so any help any advice is so very welcomed. Thank you in advance.

That depends on the brand of Ink but most likely yes 🥰
can you do a full wrap infusable ink over an already infused tumbler
It will not show up especially if you had dark colors on the original.

Yes
What, what? Is using an oven a must or can we use a correctly sized mug press? If we can use a mug press, is wrapping with silicone or shrink wrap a must?
This is best done in a craft purposed convection oven so the ink can float off the surface.
Will this work on sublimation glass coffee cups?
Yes, though you may want to check them more often. 😊🌻

Hun im having a problem, my tumblers are turning out very nice but my mugs are a different story. I've tried about 6 different mugs and have not gotten 1 good one. The mugs a for sublimation as well as paper and ink that's why I'm totally stumped, any suggestions? Thanks. Deb

since the Tumbler cant go into the dishwasher & can only be hand washed to save any scratches is to use contact paper ( the same thing you cover books with ) & to date i havent had any problems with this method

I was wondering why you can't invert the tumbler if you use a flat pan to set it on the little mat.

My husband has tried to do a no seem tumbler that hasn't worked. He's feeling very much the failure. Please tell me how to make a pattern not show the seam? Getting desperate and he's feeling like giving up.

What about the hogg sublimation tumblers? How do you remove the imprint they put on the bottoms? It's very frustrating they don't leave them blank so we can put our own logo there. Am considering switching companies because of this.

Do you have a way to re-sublimate a photo glass piece?
You can try to bake the ink off with this method, we haven't tried however. 😊🌻
Can you bake off the design with a press?

Because you’re oven is used for food. You can’t mixed toxic fumes with food you eat..
It's just best practice not to use your household oven for crafting. 😊🌻

Wrapping the tumbler in an acetone wrapped paper towel works too.
