The pops were engineered in, they add a bit of fuel on roll off, without spark. It makes just enough vapour in the exhaust stream to combust in the pipes. The 1000PS guys interviewed some wig at BMW and that was his explanation. I find myself rolling off for no reason other than to hear the snaps and pops.

I like when you said "Wank Stain." Thanks for the review - how was the comfort?

More upright than a super sport, but more forwards than my r1200r so there is a little weight on the wrists. The stock seat is quite hard, but again bearable. Both things easily fixed if they bothered you, with a comfort seat and bar risers, personally I'd probably only do the seat. Out of the box I'd give it a 7 out of 10 for comfort.

So which is the bike you'd prefer to own long-term? I'm leaning towards the r1200r which I've tested and loved. The s1000r looks amazing but I feel it would be less relaxing and it'd constantly be egging me on!

hey Jackson, both very different bikes. the R1200R is very comfortable, perfect for long journeys in the summer and relaxed cruising. but don't be fooled. The 2015 R1200R will still do 0-60mph in 2.8 seconds. the S1000R does it in 2.6 so for road bikes there really isn't a great deal in it. i think it all depends on what kind of riding you do, the R1200R is heavy, wide and vague in the corners, for tight filtering and sharp turns its really not great, the S1000R is its opposite, amazing in the corners and nice and narrow for teh city riding but nowhere near as comfortable. servicing will likely be a little cheaper on the R1200 because its only two cylinders and the boxers are designed for easty access by teh amature mechanic too so when warranty runs out you can do much if your own servicing, but the S1000 is cheaper up-front. My advice would be to take the S1000 out for a spin and look at the sort of riding you will be doing. Both are truly fantastic bikes but very very different.

+Bobby Fett I kind of don't want to test the s1000r in case it stops me wanting the r1200r lol, the S would probably burn my licence within a week

+Bobby Fett funny you should say that, I also test rode the 675 (street triple) and came to the same conclusion. It would have been awesome on the track but not for me on uk roads

really enjoyed your review, you said that you wasn't that experienced, how long have you been riding? I'm a brand new rider and wanted your thoughts on stepping up to super naked after 12months riding? they don't seem any more faster than 600 super sports or have I got this totally wrong? anyways be cool and ride safe with greetings from south London.

Mark Seale 323 a bike is only going to go as fast as YOU ride it.
I've been riding for around two and a half years and put a lot of miles in during that time.
As you probably already know, the number of cylinders and tuning of bikes affect the way they ride, generally fewer cylinders make for more low end torque and more cylinders give you a higher top speed. This is a four cylinder tuned for low end torque, don't know how they did it but it works, this bike is ridiculously quick.
To be honest there aren't many opportunities for you to abuse the top speed of any bike so I gravitate towards the naked bikes with fewer cylinders but even so this is my favourite bike I have ridden yet. Could a rider with only a year under his/her belt handle it?
Of course, no reason why not. It's light, comfortable and well behaved at low speed.
And as with any bike it's up to the rider not to be an idiot, I will be honest this bike did seem to tease the idiot out in me a little. All that power is hard to ignore.

Chris MotorLife thanks for watching :)
I use cyclops, couple of quid for an annual subscription. Dead simple and can run in the background.
Or when I need a map and directions i use the Tom Tom app and subscribe to the camera database
