I am so glad you shared this. I can’t begin to describe how nice it is to see this shaky, unbalanced over every bump C4 Corvette. These have the power of my Z06 C5 stock, yet all of the shaky quirks my Z06 doesn’t have. The best part! My Z06 doesn’t have a 7k shift point, which is why I also prefer to drive my ZR1! Absolutely epic cars considering when they were built. I wish I had a 90 so my info center displayed Full Power.
Thank you sir. I will agree what you say about the shakiness and bump absorption. To be honest I don’t know how people used these as daily drivers when new. These cars really are beasts-they are an experience. After extended periods of time driving it, my body feels used and abused. I must be soft. ‘90-‘91 cars are so similar, and relatively plentiful, thankfully. I prefer the earlier years for their noisier gears in the ZF.
@@kylec4zr1 if you like noisy gears have I got the ZR-1 for you. The lightweight aluminum flywheel I chose with my Ram conversion sounds like the transmission is going to explode! Sounds fine under load, but light in town use, I’m just glad my Bose system still works.

Hatch vent holds the rear hatch open about an 1 1/2". Bolts on the the hatch closing hardware. Allows the air in the car to flow through when you drive with the windows down. No buffeting ot or pressure waves. If you use the mirror deflectors also air does not hit you in the face. Exhaust noise us also enhanced as it enters the car, but no fumes. Weld a wing nut on the Torx head of the screw and you don't need your Targa top tool to install it.
That's the way to drive a Z. Corvettes at Carlisle is next week starting on the 26th. Come join us if close at the ZR1 net registry tent . Lots of food and lots of awesome ZR1'S.
I bet in the end it turns out the station is less then a mile away but you came back with 20+ miles done....it's hard to drive a car like this just to a gas station.
I notice your shifter moves up slightly when you drop the boot in, my Callaway Supernatural does that even after i re-aligned and torqued the c-beam and cross brace.
In every manual car I’ve driven there’s always been a little movement in the shifter when the drivetrain torques up or down. I would say it’s completely normal.
Me too 100% - had it for PC. Amazingly realistic game for the time. The sequels never matched the first in realism. The ZR-1 and Viper RT/10 were my two faves to drive.
It says “Full Engine Power” when you have the power key in Full Power (375hp) mode instead of Normal Power (about 200-ish hp). This light is only for 1990. ‘91-‘95 cars have a little green light below the radio, next to the power key.

I would never sell this car if I had one! I have 91 c4 and engine head blown and can’t find part to fix over 6 months! Take care of your car plz

I went with a 90 vett with a L98 I though parts would be easier to get ! went 4 months on hold due to rear brake calipers! No body had any that were stock rebuild. Minus E bay at 300. a pop! Ouch! I passed up a 1990 ZR-1 with19.000 miles. When the engine goes south Parts are mucho $$. Let alone a shop that will touch an LT5 that knows how. not many out my way. Good luck with your head gasket, with a gasket replacement it may be cheaper to put in a GM perf. build engine? even if your doing the work. It will last longer if you keep it.
Sold my 91 blk/blk in march...Car had over 500 chp.....Picked up a fully built C6 Z06 ...Nothing but annoying problems with fuel pump relays.....ZR-1 is a great car for the money.....They are on the rise...Then again so is everything else thanks to all this inflation..
@@QMarais95 the stock 3.45 gears can yield 25-27mpg on the highway if you stay at 70mph or below. It is a remarkably well-rounded powertrain even by today’s standards, and was way ahead of its time in 1990.
No problem- I think you might have to approve the comments using the RUclips website from a desktop. For the vacuum leak, the ZR-1 specialist did an article on troubleshooting them. Go to zr1specialist.com. Click articles. About 10 articles down is one about vacuum leaks. He’s a great resource!
This is my first jump into driving an older car. I’ve never been stranded yet. It’s still a 30+ year old GM that required a few repairs when I bought it, but it’s been largely fine so far. There are a couple ZR-1 forums that I read on a regular basis, so I haven’t been surprised by anything yet.

There are only 3 things the ZR-1 does better: how it looks, how it sounds, and overall driving fun factor. When those things don’t matter (which is 99% of my life), the Camry wins hands down. I love the ZR-1 for what it is, but I’m also not blind to its shortcomings.

You can’t expect your local Chevy dealership to work on the drivetrain, but everything else on the car is regular C4 Corvette. The ZR-1 community is full of very helpful people. Join the ZR-1 registry forum or facebook groups and people can direct you where to find anything.

I averaged 13mpg city and 21mpg highway with 4.10s
