    So many complaints about "too fast." I'm unsure as to why they think they must have the "not for beginners" label? They can't just look at content, decide they're not there yet and then move on? For myself, in I took several classes in photoshop including compositing back in 02/3 before changing my college major. But, it's been many, many years, the software has evolved, and I've not practiced those skills. For me- this was AMAZING and didn't feel like it moved too fast. To implement this on my own, I will simply watch and pause the video while I progress through the appication. Thank you so much for making these, they are incredibly well done and professional. As a bonus, I've now discovered your website! Many wishes for many subscribers. :)

    Tried this yesterday for the first time , merging a plane with a sky background (instead of the hanger roof) and thanks to this video I got it to work and give me a blue sky image with a flying plane plus lens flare off the edge of the wingtip. Tough video to follow (as a beginner) BUT that's why the pause button exists. Do a little. Watch a little, do some more.. I need to repeat the exercise several times to understand the nuances but I'm getting there.... thank you !!

    Great Video! Really helpful I'm here 3 year too late. You do work fast and expect people to have an understanding, but I don't see it as a problem. You've shown me faster methods as a beginner and if I'm not sure what you are doing or can't keep up I pause and rewind multiple times. Don't know why people think they will learn something by listening and watching it once.

    • @EmmWood91
      @EmmWood91 7 лет назад +26

      Not too fast at all, correct for people at the level required for this type of work. If it's 'too fast', you need to learn your software better, this isn't 'basic' work, this is advanced work, and I certainly wouldn't be recommending this to intermediates or beginners. I have 7 years of PS experience and work with it on a daily basis, so this tutorial was perfect for me to follow. Nothing he did or showed was confusing. But if you don't know about these tools, this tutorial is not right for you. This isn't to help beginners. There are other tutorials for you out there

    • @jackfntwist
      @jackfntwist 7 лет назад +22

      Hoofing_Around I have 20 years pro photography and Photoshop amateur since the software started (before you were born). It is a bit fast. If this is a tutorial for people who already have a degree in graphics, that's different. But most users, even if advanced in concept, don't know the tools so well, or mask system. I think just a little more of a slow explanation on that would help. Also, there are many ways in PS to get similar results. I could have spent the same amount of time or less, experimenting my own way, and achieved a very similar image (more to my liking). As far as photography / light is concerned, the background highlights in the forest do not match the key light source / flare from above that he created, nor the shadows. So it has flaws (i.e. is not perfect, conceptually). So don't judge artists. The video does not say for "advanced" photoshop, or people who studied graphic software or who are advance at using tools and masks.

    Thanks, Kelvin. I learn something new here...just different way of doing thing. BTW, just to share with you on how I clean the edges of the mask. I also use the brush but set the mode to "Hard Mix" and set the opacity to something less than 100% to reduce the "hardness". With this Hard Mix mode, you just run the brush along the edges that needs cleaning (switching between white or black as required).

    Well done Kelvin, I have been using Photoshop for minor adjustment that are hard to do using Lightroom for years, but after your explanation of tools I feel more confident working with layers, smart objects and overall processing ideas. Also, your downloads helped a lot; usually finding pictures to practice it is hard if you don't see the same result that are presented.
    With your downloads I was able to get instant feedback; it only took me a week to finish, but it was worth it :-D

    Clearly you know your stuff. But for those of us trying to understand photoshop this is a very advanced video and moved way to fast for me to follow. So may of your actions need explanation. Like adding layers, you move them to a location in the stack. Why? Why change to smart objects? Magic wand always grabs half the image but somehow you "clean it up". If you posted videos for beginners that were clear and moved methodically through the techniques I bet you'd have plenty of followers. I wish I could do what you showed in this video, but honestly watching it just makes me more confused.

    I found a way around it but it's not very convenient. I went into the smart object and added an adjustment layer directly on top there. But in order to preview any changes, I have to make a split screen and save the smart object each time.

    If you already have a picture with a transparent background ready, then go to 15:28.
    You're welcome I just saved you 15 minutes of your life.

    Kevin thank you so much for this fantastic video! I was wondering. If you wanted to make a gif/video that showed the ballerina at all four angles would you know how to do that?

    I think your expatiation requires simplifying.......this requires a complete knowledge of keyboard shortcuts.. etc. This video is great for someone who already knows how to do the job!
