DSP has an alcoholic mindset when it comes to everything in his life, which is why the selective self-awareness isn't all that surprising.
He focuses in on the things he cannot control (the gameplay of others, how the game plays) and either by choice or compulsion diminishes or ignores the things that are in his control (his gameplay, his actions, the amount he chooses to play AND study the game).
He will never improve as a content creator because he either can't or won't acknowledge that fact. Like seriously, who the hell actually moans about too many quality RPGs coming out because HE CHOSE TO PLAY THREE OF THEM AT THE SAME TIME FOR CONTENT???

This reminds me of a great clip that Snort Burnell occasionally uses, the one where it starts off with DSP saying to himself, "burn in hell, Burnell". The ending of it where he says, "you can't change who you are I guess," really shows that Phil understands that he cannot change his behavior because he's just incredibly lazy and doesn't want to put in any effort to make any changes. Great example of the selective self-awareness Phil has thanks to his alcohol consumption forcing him to tell on himself.
It is also consistent with the possibility that Phil has avoidant and narcissistic personality disorders. He does not want to accept any personal responsibility and rejects the negative consequences of his behavior. He always claims that external forces caused him to make mistakes or fail. That way he had no control over the outcome. There was literally nothing he could do.
@@dcstiger I'd be willing to bet he likely has borderline personality disorder as well. His emotional dysregulation and how it is influenced based on his interactions with people or his environment is quite concerning.

I looked at the list of releases for 2024...he has a huge variety to choose from, he just doesn't want to play them. He could also be playing a ton of older games but he won't because it's easier for him to react to old footage of him playing.

It's incredible how hard he is projecting. I reached purple ranks within the first few weeks of playing tekken in a relatively short amount of hours. Almost everything he complains about when it comes to other players can be perfectly fitted onto his own gameplay. The way he plays is what you could call Complete Autopilot. He does things and hopes they will work. He has a few preferred moves that he likes and every time he makes a button press he throws them out completely randomly, at complete random times (mashes the moves out DURR DURR DURR). From the gameplay I saw I have NEVER, NOT ONCE, seen him punish/whiff punish a move, when he successfully blocks something that's punishable he rolls the slot machine and mashes out one of his preferred moves with zero thought behind them, no tech traps, nothing. His gameplay is incredibly simplistic. The opponents quite literally have to make mistakes and leave DSP with enough breathing room so that he can mash out his preferred moves for them to lose. It is very clear from his gameplay that he puts ZERO THOUGHT into it and It's infuriating how he uses these same complaints, just applies them to the opponents. Him explaining how unexperienced players can get to higher ranks is absolutely spot on if applied to him.
Imagine going to a stand-up comedy routine, and the comedian is asking for help with his punchlines. What kind of audience would support that?!

Even worse: the comedian only really listens to people who pay to hand over each punchline, and even then there's a good chance that paying audience member might be ignored, insulted or thrown out. Sounds good?

Learning what works for and against certain characters in fighting games is common sense. That’s what you learn. For being someone who has played fighting games before, DSP really seems to get a lot of things wrong.
He seems like the type to get bodied by basic things like spamming Chun-li's lightning kick or Ryu Hadoken spam.
Phil is so performative with his compliments and apologies. It serves to only make him look better and he doesn’t genuinely feel that way.
Having played T8 now I can see clearly Phil never knew when to punish. He kept thinking he had a chance to sneak a jab in and was wrong and got punished for it. That’s on him. He acts like people literally push buttons nonstop to win. He is just salty people he perceives as lesser than him are beating him.
Also it’s absolutely pathetic he is complaining and whining so hard the game is unfair and he expects his chat to I guess say “yeah Phil you are right! We agree. Here’s $100 for your suffering”. At what point will DSP ever admit that maybe he’s the issue? Also if he just wants to play and have fun why does his rank matter? Just do unranked. He wants a specific result for his mishandled time and cries like a toddler when he doesn’t get it.
Also hate when he says “SORRY!” after giving his shit hot take. Like he knows it’s a garbage viewpoint but powers through.
Daggerfall, is an RPG from 1996, according to HLTB it takes 31 hours to finish just the main story, 84 hours for extra stuff, and a completionist run takes OVER 281 Hours. SO yeah RPGs have been hours long experiences since gaming has begun
hell an NES rpg was often made to require extended grinding to combat game rentals and frequently could take up to 100 hours
Phil, skill is born FROM time investment. For all fields. You practice, you learn, and you improve by doing. By engaging. Doctors spend the better part of a decade in college. Fighting game professionals spend hours upon hours upon hours either practicing or sparring with other players. Professional sports players devote not just their time but their bodies to their craft.
Phil wants to be skillful without time investment. He's humiliated that randos at red and purple ranks can run his fade and he feels entitled to be able to beat them. But, he's not entitled to it because he hasn't put in the work. And we all know DSP hates work.
As far as his hand holding in SF6 it was Gamecucker sending some sf6 wiki to phil every time.
I have a suggestion. When you do a "Last Time in the Snortex" bit you should include the date and year the video is from, to give extra context.

I subbed to him a few months ago to get a good idea of how he is and it’s funny to me that nothing is ever his fault and it’s chats or the game Devs. On Baldurs gate he was pissed he has Half movement saying it’s a big and the game was stupid when if he would look at the left hand corner it showed a status effect that slowed him down, me and chat pointed that out and you can tell he read it but he straight ignored it
The other thing he should take Tuesdays and Thursdays off if he doesn’t have time to spend with his wife so they can spend more time together he won’t be losing anything doing that

The only thing I'll give Philliberto is being able to play 33 matches straight. I'll put in like 5-10, win 1 and feel like I put in some work in the hour or two I have for games a day.
What frustrates me is how Phil and Dale both claim that fighting games are "made for scrubs" but seem to forget fighting game devs have been trying to lower the barrier for entry for quite some time. If DSP wants to play fighting games with higher execution requirements he should go to fightcade and get his shit rocked in some Third Strike or MvC2. Just excuses on top of excuses for the roach lately.

There have been 1,296 hours since Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth released. He’s had plenty of time to beat it. I did all the activities and did all my husband and fatherly duties in less than 120 hours.
Since Phil is a content creator, he has can’t adhere to a normal schedule when it comes to gaming. He needs to plow through one game at a time for longer periods of time. Then he can rest after doing a marathon of one game before starting a new one.
Makes it more accessible so people dont have to try at all to be good... and by doing that they made it where you have to put in more time to get good? To quote the walking snort himself: *Huh?*

if I'm playing any fighting game and I'm losing to the same move over and over do you know what I (or any thinking player) would do? Simply go into practice mode and have the dummy do the move to me until I figure it out. But he's too lazy he'd rather blame his chat.

If he wasn't so weird about how he regiments what hes doing, with horrible inefficiency while doing so, and utilise his time better he might actually get somewhere.. or have the same amount of money come in while "working" less. He could slash 30-40% of his "work week" by cutting out the useless parts.
