You have to watch the continuation of the video then "Falling Away from Me". This song is very strong and touches on delicate things that many of us also identify with.
I was 18 when this came out, this was truly the music of our generation. Now I'm 43, fighting diabetes and trying to figure out how to prepare for retirement. Life is so damn short and quick.
From one “weird embracer” to another, loved the reaction. For me the bullet represents all of the criticism and personal attacks, whether they originate externally or from our inner demons. These bullets don’t necessarily have to be intentional attacks (the guard didn’t intend to shoot, but shit still happens), but their impact doesn’t care if it was intentional or not. I was labeled as a freak when I was a kid. The bullets seemed to come from everywhere, and came often. Hearing someone else sing with such visceral expressions about this was a refuge for me. As always, much love and thank you.
The whole can't feel your face is often used to refer to many drug users as they often describe a very numb feeling in the face, especially coke addicts, which is what The Weekend song is all about
hahaha loved your reaction 4:50 , usually the ppl reacts like that in that part of the song. It's something you don't expect to be there and it's amazing. Jonathan Davis is one of a kind. Greetings from México!
Korn is one of those bands that you really need to dive into their early stuff to get the internal message going on. Jonathan Davis had a very broken childhood to say the absolute least. He wasn't allowed to be himself and he was terribly abused. Their first couple of albums they put out dove into that pretty hard. While I highly recommend giving them a listen, strap in for a real emotional journey. These albums hold a fair number of songs that people listen to so they don't feel alone with their torment.
Saw your wondering about lyrics... Jon has been through hell and back, and comes out in his vocals/lyrics exceptionally well. Notable examples: Daddy, Shoots and Ladders, Did My Time (BE AWARE- Daddy is about as heavy/disturbing of a song as you will EVER find... tragic, raw, and pure emotion. Other standouts - Twist, Blind.
May be disturbing but heavy... I didnt think so. If she wanna react something heavy, she should react to disengage or you only live once by suicide silence.
The song is about KoRn putting their pain on display and how monetizing that - especially for the benefit of record companies - makes you feel like a freak on their leash at times. That necessarily begs the question: "Why do it, then?" This video is the answer The bullet is trauma, unwittingly fired at kids by even well-meaning adults and ricocheting chaos and destruction through the world. It finds its way to a KoRn poster, entering their world, which has clearly received a lot of these bits of trauma. He defuses it with his music and turns it back on the world, destroying symbols of work, media, and government pressure. By the time it gets back to the girl, it's been rendered inert enough for her to simply pick it out of the air and go back to enjoying her life
I love seeing younger people react to Korn now, because it’s exactly how dudes like me reacted back in 1998 hearing them for the first time. You’re kinda speechless, because there ain’t nothing else that sound like them. 🌞

"Originating in vocal jazz, scat singing or scatting is vocal improvisation with wordless vocables, nonsense syllables or without words at all. In scat singing, the singer improvises melodies and rhythms using the voice solely as an instrument rather than a speaking medium. This is different from vocalese, which uses recognizable lyrics that are sung to pre-existing instrumental solos. " Source : Wikipedia (I know) It's basically what Lou Prima does for King Lou in "I Wan'na Be like You" in the old The Jungle Book film
You know what...? You probably aren't used to drop-D tuning? It was something that a handful of bands used in the early 2000s and KORN was one of the big names that did. Basically what they did was the 6th (lowest) string is tuned down a whole step, moving the note to D2 instead of E2 and resulting in a “DADGBE” pattern, for both bass and guitar. That is what gives the sound so much chunkiness. Jonathan was a big fan of scat vocals and beat-boxing.
Korn is one of my favorite bands, I loved this reaction. I will continue to wait for your reaction to Korn - Daddy, everything that song entails for me is very meaningful, it's brutal and heartbreaking.
Yeah, Jonathon's growling, gutteral scatting vocalization was something NOBODY was ready for when they first heard this song. I still remember having my mind blown by how heavy this was along with how unique those vocalizations with his scatting were. Great song.

When he says "Go" and that breakdown after is one of the greatest things in nu metal ever, I also read a comment that made me crack up once talking about when Jonathan Davis does the weird beatbox/scat thing as going full Cookie Monster
The breakdown part is like a beatbox, a vocal percussion, the inspiration comes from reggae, Brian head, the guitar player talks about it in a guitar lesson/interview
This was Jonathan Davis portraying his teen years growing up... He was not the popular guy in school and was often bullied and called 'gay'... He had also survived trauma and sexual abuse as a child... His parents divorced and his mom remarried a catholic and had to sign a document to get married in that church that basically declared Jonathan an 'illegitimate child' (Catholics don't recognize divorce). He hated his stepmom who would apparently have cruel means to handle him (Thankfully, his dad divorced her too!) Despite being a very creative individual, he was big into goth culture and became a fan of The Cure... then came the drugs and alcohol abuse. That was basically what 'Freak on a leash' was about - that was what he felt like he was growing up. He was not in a good place working as an assistant in a mortuary where he worked w/ dead bodies, but he was introduced to the band L.A.P.D. in Bakersfield, California and he joined forces w/ them to form KoRn in 1993... The band's early success likely saved his life, but his struggles w/ drug abuse carried on well over decades in KoRn's career. In fact, all 5 original members of KoRn came from similar backgrounds - broken homes... neglect... abuse... They all struggled w/ drug and alcohol addictions over the years.

To me this is KoRn’s all-around masterpiece. They kind of threw it all in there: the groove, the hints of hip-hop, the guitar effects, the heavy guitars, and the crazy scatting section. Add it all up and it’s pretty much tops. P.S. I don’t 100% agree with people who think “Falling Away From Me” should be next. Yes, the video itself is a sequel to this one. However, it is also a much, much darker clip and can be hard to watch for some. People need to consider how a reactor might feel.
