I did pretty much the same... But you took the time to film and explain it all for someone who hasn't done anything like this! Major props to you... Great vid!
Nice video, I just installed a sub in my JL and followed your instructions. Worked perfectly. The remote turn on and high level inputs are exactly as you explained.
I also don't have the Alpine system and I agree that the factory stereo sounds really crappy. I was hoping someone would do an install like you did. I'm going to try it in my JL Thanks for sharing 👍
Nice job...I had the same base sound setup in my wrangler jl and initially added the jl audio 8" powered sub in the same location on the opposite side hooked up to a bass knob up front near the emergency brake. It filled in the bass, but the factory front and soundbar speakers aren't good. The key to getting it sounding good was making the speaker enclosures bigger to fit Hertz 5.25" components up front and 5.25" coaxials in soundbar powered by a 4 channel alpine pdr-f50 under the driver seat. To get a clean signal, all of this is ran through a jl fix 86 sound processor hidden under the steering wheel behind the plastic trim piece. I kinda wish I went with the bigger jl audio 10" 400 watt powered sub bc I have my input sensitivity at 80% and bass turned up all the way most of the time. One annoyance is jeep setup the bluetooth volume to default at volume level 15 and when the speakers are amplified, I manually turn down the bluetooth volume to 10 or so every time you make/receive a call or else it's too loud. Jeep needs to allow the radio to remember the last bluetooth volume level and stay on it. My system sounds better than the factory alpine, but cost more.
I iust ordered this exact JL Powerwedge+ yesterday but forgot to get the wiring kit. I tried using the link you have in the description but it won’t take me to the Amazon link. Can you tell me which wiring kit you used, I want wire this bad boy up in my 4Runner when the sub gets delivered. Great video and I hope it will sound as good as it did in the video regardless of how bad GoPro mics are, it sounded good with headphones on. 🤘🏼😎🤘🏼
Did you use a pry tool to remove the floor trim to the back. I am doing it now by hand in a JT and its a pita, having a tough time opening them completely like you.
For the speaker harness that you tapped into. Which is the positive and which is the negative lines for each side? You said which sides the colors were for. Installing an all in one box similar to yours.
Where do you have your gain knob on yours? I have the same sub and I’ve been turning it up without clipping but I’m a bit nervous to increase it, currently I can’t even hear deep bass when driving in the front seat
I have a different powered sub but I’m guessing the install is th same. I have the 7 inch base. By tapping into the sound bar speakers does this mean you don’t need to add a LOC?
Funny, I only watched this to see how you were supposed to hook up the speaker wires and you showed wires to two different speakers. Did you have to hook to the positive and negative to one speaker or both. Thanks
Hey man, why didn't you go for a ported box. My sound system guy recommended this for my jeep because when I decide to take the top off, the sealed wouldn't be able to deliver the same bass as the ported.
the wires from the soundbar go to the amplifier not the subwoofer. You connect rca wires to the soundbar which runs to the amp. then the amp to the subwoofer.
did you have any complications with the factory head unit cutting sound to the sound bar because the impedance is different with the amp in parallel? i guess not?
Hey man I was thinking about installing an amp with a subwoofer. I called Best Buy just for some advice they told me that the uconnect system will not work with the high input. They said you have to add a ceramic capacitor or something like that is that true?
Works like a charm. No capacitors needed of any sort. Good luck, Best Buy install bay is a joke. I've had them build a 9000w soundsystem with a custom show enclosure in my Durango years ago. And they hacked the crap out of it. They used Bondo to seal the boxes too.... well bondo lasted 2 days with 9000w of subwoofer.... long story short stay away.
Hey bud, great video! I have the same sub but I don’t have any wiring because it was given to me. Can y please add a link to the wiring kit you used? Thanks!!
In most cases you don't. Unfortunately the way the U-connect functions the JL amp does not pick up to start processing the signal the correct way. Spent a long time on the phone with them...
@@MohawkDaveOffRoad Thanks for all your answers. My Rockville sub (built-into the speaker housing) has a POS, a NEG and a REMOTE power input - is the REMOTE input where I run the cig lighter remote wire to? (obviously I still need power and ground wired too - correct?) And what gauge wire should I use?
@@detroitmannc that is exactly correct. You don’t need a heavy gauge wire for the remote. Thin gauge works great as the amp is only using it to sense voltage and there is almost no load on that wire. Good luck.
@@MohawkDaveOffRoad thanks for replying. You really know how to run a YT page and engage with your viewers when you post a video. I run a YT channel for IBM Technology and we need to get better at answering/engaging with viewer comments. Thanks again.

I’ve watched a lot of videos on subwoofer installs and you’re the first person to show where you tapped in for the audio! Thank you!
he di one of the sound bar speaker right the -/+ of one speaker

Thank you for the excellent install video!! Sub shows it’s out of stock. Hopefully they get more in soon.

Best video I have found explaining all the wiring. Thanks so much for doing this and being so detailed. Extremely helpful.
I put 2 of these in my 68 mustang and it slaps hard. Btw good vid!
Alpine system I actually liked , but I did upgrade my dash and sound bar mids to Kenwood 3.5 coaxial
Great video man, clean and to the point.
Very well done install! ✨Clean as hell 💯
Great detail 👌

Fantastic job
How does this compare to the stock Alpine upgrade ?

Very clean

Mine is set pretty high. Check your bass setting on the headunit.
@@MohawkDaveOffRoad thanks! Also did you notice a smell from urs, I’ve had it for like 2 days and no matter the volume it smells like rubber
No LOC needed with this sub/amp combo?
I have a different powered sub but I’m guessing the install is th same. I have the 7 inch base. By tapping into the sound bar speakers does this mean you don’t need to add a LOC?
you only need to add a loc if the current coming from the soundbar speakers is more than your amplifier input can handle.
you can use a voltage meter to test that
Funny, I only watched this to see how you were supposed to hook up the speaker wires and you showed wires to two different speakers. Did you have to hook to the positive and negative to one speaker or both. Thanks
Positive and negative to both. Subwoofer has a dual channel input in order to process the bass from left and right channels.

Ported boxes are huge!
Question how did you mount the subbox? I like that idea ..is drilling required?
Yes you will have to drill. I have bolts holding it.
@@MohawkDaveOffRoad ok s cools so where exactly did you drill?
Did you tap into both speakers in the sound bar or just one?
Good video, do you have apple play in you head unit? If so, any issues with install?
Yeah it has apple play and no issues so far it it has working flawlessly.
So, I purchased the same JL audio box. And I gotta day. That box is what you want if all you want is crazy bass.
Do you have a picture or video of how you connected the wires from the soundbar to the subwoofer? and a picture of the connections to the amp?
the wires from the soundbar go to the amplifier not the subwoofer. You connect rca wires to the soundbar which runs to the amp. then the amp to the subwoofer.
Did you have to use a LOC?
Don't these have different settings for turning on..without having to run the remote wire???
JL has trouble picking up that signal. it doesn't hurt to run the wire just to make sure it shuts off.
Wait a min. If I got the alpine upgrade can I just tap in to those wires?
Technically yes, you would connect to the mid range not the tweeter. For best sound quality I would recommend something like the Pac4 amzn.to/3mEV8Cn
is there no potentiometer for the amount of bass you want or it the bass solely controlled by the head unit?
You can add a remote volume knob.
can you help me run the cables in a patriot jeep for a subwoofer please
Hi - did you need a special harness to connect to the factory head unit?
he didn't connect to the factory head unit. if you can connect to the head unit there's no need to tap into these speaker wires.
What kind of cable did you use to tap into the sound bar speakers?
Speaker wire.
did you have any complications with the factory head unit cutting sound to the sound bar because the impedance is different with the amp in parallel? i guess not?
No issues, as the amp only reads the signal.
I have a 2020 Sahara the firewall is different because I have a clutch
