I take it you had good luck but as a plumber I recommend to never mess with the integral stops on the shower valve to turn the water off. Just shut off the main or at the street if you have access. Those Moen integral stops are notorious for the oring seal inside the stops to start dripping/leaking because they never get exercised(turned on/off) over time and the rubber seal gets brittle and rips. Just my experience with these but glad you had no issues with that. Just a tip to save you some headache for the next round
What do u do if the cartridge thingy is completely stuck inside it dose not move at all The only way I was able to shut off the water was to burn the plastic piece with a torch so I can turn the knob to off but the thing won’t come out 🥲 it’s been 4 days and tbh I’m starting to smell
Good video. I just replaced mine today. Easy and works so well. Didn’t realize the old carriage was so tight and old. New moen replacement turns with a pinky finger. I just turned my main water off in the garage. Other than that idiot proof. Thanks
Do not use pliers you will break it if it's been in there over 30 years use the tool that screws inside the Cartridge I love how they make it look so easy you could pull it out with pliers so you could just completely screw up your
Video helped me change mine. I messed up at first and it leaked worse. Turned out one of the rubber pieces fell off in the package. Been working on learning some basics for a small renovation in my current home and to build my own tiny house. Subscribed. Thank you.
Use 1 1/4 brush to clean out the inner shower valve after removing the cartridge. Otherwise you'll scratch the gaskets on the new cartridge and it'll leak in a day or two
I replaced mine today, but now there is a slight leak coming out of the faucet whereas it didn't leak before. I had to replace it bc it wouldn't shut the water off in the tub. what's causing it to leak and how do I stop the leak?
Spin the stem only leave the cartridge installed and just spin the stem with no trim on only handle then test if still the same spin another half turn until right your welcome
I did get the tool, it was still so stuck I had my foot up on the wall and was using all of my body and twisting. Thought I was gonna break a pipe. The rubber was coming lose and I was fighting and ripping at the rubber until it came all the way out… it was rough.
if its a old one the make a tool so you dont pinch yourself with needle nose put on turn with channel locks take off pullout its cheap and usually comes with the new cartage wonder why his didnt
I just did this but my off is when the handle is up and I only get hot water in the 5 o'clock position, I've double checked and my "HC" is on the top, and my handl moves and stops on the right places, the old one was too dirty and I didnt pay attention, I'm thinking my copper housing/pipes must be ran wrong so I'm gonna try and flip the cartridge upside down unless someone knows something I don't
@@studmuffin2330 Yeah, my house has individual shit off valves in the basement for each sink, bathtub, toilet. This is so I don’t have to shut off the water to the house. Just for what I need to work on.
you most likely have a valve like this video with water stops left and right of the cartridge. Take the cold stop out and run the water quickly and back off. Most likely this will flush out around the stops and you'll be good.
Ya the stops suck most 1222s will not come out with needle nose pliers sometimes u will need to screw screws I. The cartridge to pull it out if your puller don’t work ha and the h/c don’t mean shit when the stem has been turned around by whoever the hell touches it before you and ps don’t ever buy knock off 1222s to save u 20$ it will bite you in the ass on install day love moen
@@HarminderSingh-jc7rf it really depends if I’m supplying the part or not. If they have all the parts and I’m just doing the labor and it’s a pretty easy removal, I’ll charge about 100 125 bucks.. I typically try to make about 100 bucks an hour. If I’m doing is that and I’m going over there specifically for that if nothing else I’ll probably charge 150. 200 bucks with parts.
@@HateDietPepsi no it doesn’t because water is still behind the vaule. You should get a lot longer use out of one if you don’t use the shower as much, of course, but they still will go bad, especially if they’re just sitting there, not being used kind of a double edge sword.
That's some filthy water you got there son. Mine last about 8 years and I have high levels of iron and manganese, which are the worst for clogging these things up.
It's not that easy for some people also you need a good bit of power to pull it out if it's been years and putting it back in I'm 21 male 240 and it was hard to get it back in not fun to deal with the lub it come with use all of it
Being clumsy, the first thing I do is tape over the drain so I don't lose any of those little screws.

@goshwk5848 Did you manage to get it out ?
@@GoShwkkreplace the entire shower mixing valve you dunce
I found when replacing my Riobel cartridge that the shutoff stops were a soft brass and just turning them made me nervous.

Step one cuss who originally put the cartridge in without grease, fight it for 30 minutes, install new cartridge WITH grease 👍
I just did this. I also had the pleasure of breaking it in half while stuck inside the body.

This is great to hear!! Love it!
Great video. Thanks this video saved me going through a crisis not knowing this was a replaceable part.
What treatment did you put on?
Thank you very much for this video! Really saved my bacon!
Everything worked the way you posted. Thank you.
If u call Moen & tell them u are the original owner they will send u one free $aving $55
Usually they don’t even care that you’re the original owner.
I spent a month doing these before realizing you needed lubricant. I had to grip the hole with vice pliers so hard the brass got bent one time.
Will wd-40 be good enough?

TY very helpful
Thanks!
Thank you so much the tips helped me a lot !!!
Lol that clip tho… don’t drop it behind the wall or you better hope you keep extras on your van lol
What do you do if it doesn't have that pin?? I have that sleeve but it doesn't move.
Thank you Dave, keep Plumbing!! 👍😎👍

Thanks for video, alot of help.
My water keeps running even when I close it will this repair the problem.
Edit thanks I fix it with this clip no more leak
Excellent 👍
My plumber use the wrong mixers, handle doesn’t fit. Can I swap that center piece for the right one? Both are Moen
Real , i 've been on that hook before, thanks.
Stuff a rag in the wall so clip won’t disappear when you drop it,like I’ve done

When you reinstalled what do you mean by putting treatment?
grease

How come u tubers have the easy units? Mine was biotch to get out. Those side seals peeled back as I pulled the unit out..
Mine broke in half while pulling it out
These jobs can backfire on you quickly. Cartridges are plumbers scariest jobs imho.
What treatment do you add
Hello. I changed this cartridge and now the water pressure is much lower, how can I increase it?
What lubricant do I use and where do I put it?
I changed that valve following this video, HC is up and now my hot and cold is backwards when showering. What did I do wrong
Spin the stem only leave the cartridge installed and just spin the stem with no trim on only handle then test if still the same spin another half turn until right your welcome
how do u tell what brand is in your house? I dont see any badging at all
What size Allen key? I have like 50 of them and they’re either too big or too small.
Same thing with me it's not metric so it's got to be English
@@dominiquewilliams6243 gotta hammer in the T15 and twist!
Twist and hammer hard unless you’re willing to drill out the bolt, and spend an extra 165 replacing the handle.
Mine looks like that but how do I know if it’s that one
I fought to get the pin in. What was going on? Why was it so difficult?
What can we do if the old cartridge is not pulling out? Pin is out and cartridge won’t budge. Won’t even turn 45° like the instructions say.
They make a pulling tool.

The only Moen stuff worth a damn is CFG stuff. Their sink stems are so easy to work on. No seat or spring. Just stem and the nut.
What if you have 22 years of corrosion on and it wont come out
if its a old one the make a tool so you dont pinch yourself with needle nose put on turn with channel locks take off pullout its cheap and usually comes with the new cartage wonder why his didnt
Very rare that that type of cartridge comes out complete, you usually have to take out in pieces 😢
Why do we need to change this?
Would this fix a low pressure issue?
I’ve seen it fix it for Moen
Costumer : ok sir how much cost
Plumber: just 700$
Is it really??? That’s such an easy job.
Do any of you guys know whats the typical labor charge to replace a shower cartridge?
Depending where you are....average hourly rate is around 100$

I’ve seen that happen. Does there happen to be another tub or shower on the other side of the wall? I’ve seen guys tee the pipe and go right over. 😑
@@DaveDocDIY no but there is one directly above it
Then remove the handle and black plastic piece and turn the black and handle facing down
I see nobody cleans the inside to remove hard water deposits
This is why I only install delta shower valves. So much easier
Why dont you go a little faster so you can really piss people off! LOL!
Lesson is,
buy a delta valve instead …
have fun when the bonnet nut gets stuck and you have to rip the whole value out
My cold water barely trickles but hot comes out fine. I replaced the cartridge. Any ideas?
Check your water shutoff valves. Make sure the cold is open all the way.
