A challenge for Scotty. Buy that new Lexus! As a cheap guy, do it as once in a lifetime your wife will thank you. POLL ANYONE?
Happy wife,happy life.
Happy new year scotty. Watching from Philippines 🇵🇭.
It isn't a bad car, but the longer wheelbase of the RX is more comfortable.
@@zelowatch30 Toyota/Lexus and Honda/Acura are the most intelligent automotive investments a person could make.
@darkwood777 Not just wheelbase, it depends on softness/rigidity of the suspension, independent or solid axles etc. Also, body roll or not.
My wife ask me to replace her almost 20 Year old car. I didn't ask why after 40 years of her putting up with me. I got her a new car. It's that simple. I don't know about the rest of you but this is only the 3rd new car we have had. Now in our 60s it could be the last. What would I not give the woman who has dedicated her entire life to me.
She's a keeper. Any chance you're related to Admiral Byrd? You know, the guy that went to Antartica & discovered hollow earth.

After 40 years it's obvious you two were meant for each other.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
We need to push Scotty to BUY IT! His wife would be happy. 😄
Scotty finally answered my question about oil changes on my Camry. I just finished the 30k oil change (free every 10k since purchasing new) and wondered if I should start changing it every 5k. I had never sent the question directly to Scotty but I figured this would be his answer. To quote him on this video, “…don’t listen to this 10,000 mile nonsense. Oil is cheap, new engines aren’t.” Thanks Scotty. You rock!
The Car Car Nut is a channel on RUclips, and he is a Toyota Master Tech…he has a video that puts it plain and simple. You will ruin the engine if you change the oil every 10k miles. He states you should change the oil every 5k miles, or 12 months, whichever is first, that is if you want the engine to last. I hope you’ve caught it before it’s too late. Oil is the life’s blood of your car’s engine. Keep it clean. I would recommend getting the oil tested to make sure there is nothing showing up in the oil that shouldn’t be there. If there is, get rid of it b4 the warranty is up. Good Luck to you. Check out the Car Care Nut’s channel here on RUclips. He goes into detail in layman’s terms. He’s pretty cool, but doesn’t have all the sign language Scotty uses…lol.
change it every 5k unless all you do is city driving like me, i change it at about every 2500
The change oil light should pop up ever 5k miles. Change it every 5k miles or 6 months. You should have been changing it every 5k miles from the beginning.
I had changed those fluid on my 210K KM Camry every 5K KM.
@@gilbertoflores7397 never rely on the light in the dash to remind you to change your oil…there have been quite a few people who have learned that lesson the hard way, due to those reminder lights failing to work. That’ll cost ya an engine!

I always say 2.0T mimics a 6 cylinder. 6 cylinder T or Twin mimics a V8. T typically used in Europe where the larger the engine the more tax a consumer pays. T also for gas efficiency but people stomp on the gas anyways so it negates average MPG. I prefer natural aspirated and no turbo issues and inconveniences.
On my 2019 RAV4, I disabled the stop/start by unplugging the electric sensor at the hood latch. No errors, no lights. I know it sounds odd, but it works.
?
The key Scotty shows is the valet key. They give you two fobs with ejectable physical keys on top of that. The valet key allows you to control things like top speed and range from start position so it cant be taken for a joy ride. Bought one of these early 2022 and would give it a 9/10 after the first 18 months or so. My only gripes with it are on the software side and are minor temporary incoveniences, such as the seat not autopositioning if I get in the car and start it too quickly, or it picking up my wifes phone first instead of mine when shes in the house and im the one in the car. Both easy fixes on my end but mildly annoying. Other than that, I couldnt be happier
Come on Scotty, buy one for your wife, you won't be sorry. Enjoy the best if you can afford it, why not, you both deserve the best because you're the best!
Of course he can afford it
scotty is a millionaire 💀
@@OmarAttar I know he is. He should enjoy the fruitage of his work in his golden years.
Scotty .. Attention... For your Electric car notes... just saw a video from channel called 'Out of Spec Reviews' and their vid 'they don't work in the cold' which talks about the charging units not working in very cold temps.
Hi from Germany!
One thing you should try is to hook up your scantool and reprogram the ecu in order to switch off the start-stop feature.
I am however not shure you could do that on a Lexus but it is worth a try.
Here in Germany on VW it is rather easy to do.
My husband leased an Audi, and that was one feature we detested. We didn't buy it out at the end of the lease. Goof to know that exists, because on the S5 you had to turn it off every trip as well.
@@labornurse why does it annoy you? I find it just fine.
@@bahriboy it had a lag at startup that felt disconcerting and dangerous, because you couldn't take off immediately when needed
@@labornurse aha, that is annoying.
Dream of delusion in Germanland
You are right about those all wheel drives and replacing all the tires together. I saw a video a few months ago someone bought a 2013 Ford Taurus from a salvage auction and the tires on the back had the cords showing. He went to a used tire dealer and put 2 used tires on the back and the dash lit up like a Christmas tree. Those 2 use tires drove the traction control system crazy
Life is too short to keep a car for more than 4-5 years. If you have the finances, sell and buy a newer car. But some cars or trucks, is hard to let go if they’ve kept running well and never let you down.
We have the finances, always pay cash for our cars. My wife has been driving her Lexus RX for 13 years and I have been driving my z Lexus ES for 5 years. Sure we can afford to buy a new car every 5 years in cash, but we choose not to waste the money.
Agree with a lot of that Scotty. But I like my 2020 3.5 litre V6 RX350 with no stupid auto start. You convinced me to keep my current car long term. They can keep their lower life expectancy 4 cylinder turbo with auto start.
That’s a very nice vehicle. Not too much impresses me in modern SUV’s. This Lexus I like, and with the Scotty vote of approval I’d definitely buy one, if I wanted to drop $56k. Don’t hold your breath for that to happen.
We have that same one on order, but a hybrid version with a non turbo 4. Moderately spec at $46K + tax lic, around $51K out the door.
@@jml9550is the hybrid worth it for this specific model? Scotty said it would be if you’re a stop and go type of driver but what about driving to work 25 miles back and forth?
@@KalvinPatel my wife is a stay at home wife and she drives less than 500 miles a month. It may not worth the few extra $k for the hybrid, but it comes with standard AWD and she most likely will only gas up once a month. Plus the standard non turbo NX250 is a little slow for my taste and the NX350 is a turbo which I try to avoid if given a choice. The NX350H goes from 0-60 in around 7.2 second which is inline with her RX350, which get 14MPG in city driving. So Hybrid is worth it for her. For 25 miles commute per day and if you wants faster acceleration, go with the NX350, avoid the NX250 where acceleration is too slow.
@@jml9550 gotcha thanks! Is there a Non-Turbo NX350 or is that the only offered choice?
@@KalvinPatel no. All the NX350s are turbo 4s. Don’t be afraid of the turbo. If you change the oil like every 6 months or 5K miles, they are reliable. Also, the ECVT on Toyota and Lexus are quite reliable as well. These CVTs are more like planetary gear than the ones you find in Hondas, Nissans and Subarus.
We gave up on run flats and just use regular tires now. Can of fix a flat and we are good to go.
My wife has a 14 escape titanium with the 2.0 ecoboost. , its pretty quick if you need it to be . And it has a setting to shut the auto start/stop off permanently. And yes. It's off
Holy crap! I couldn’t help but notice this man lives down the street from me, small world. I’d like to meet this man and pick his brain to see what I can learn from him
In that case....go for it!!
Watch his vids.
About the speed limit indication. Scotty is saying it’s transmitted to the car externally. If this is like my 2021 RAV4 Hybrid, it’s a camera-based system that reads speed limit signs. It’s not a good system, often inaccurate or misses signs entirely. Subaru has a better system with just displaying the navigation system speed limit data on the dash. Consistent and reliable.
My 2020 Toyota uses the navigation system for the speed limit. It gets displayed on the gauge cluster and the heads up display
I am really happy with CVT... low rpm, less wear on engine good gas mileage.. pleasant to drive
Definitely was looking for scottys take on these great to see he likes it. I had my eye on one for awhile might have to take the plunge and get one.
First thing I would do is ditch the run flats and get some MS Michelins. Run flat tires ride horribly and make too much noise, especially Good Year run flats, most rf brands I assume.
Wow!! Nice ride!! Lexus NX! 😊
Quiet smooth run flats?? What has Lexus done??!!
Just buy one Scotty!!! Life is too short and you work hard!!!
I know a mechanic that flipped the button in the computer, so start/stop starts off and the button turns it on 👍
My wife sold traded my Grand Marquis for a VW Jetta.
Now I have neither. I miss my Grand Marquis.
One of my favourite compact SUVs…the only downside (personally as a V6 fan) is that I wished it had a V6 option be it the 2GR FKS with 301 HP…other than that this gen. of the NX looks and drove so much better than it’s predecessor soo much better…Also I didn’t realise that it shares the same platform as the Toyota Harrier (Venza) n the latest Lexus RX and even the Camry if I’m not mistaken…
They are rav4 based
When you say this gen, when does it start from?
Any thoughts on the Lexus UX? 4 cylinder 169HP ....thinking about buying one for my commuter back and forth to work.
@@ScamNewton77 It's nice. Basically a Rav4 with nicer material quality, and a heftier price.
the mazda cx5 signature is just as nice, built in japan and about 20K cheaper
No offense to the owners, but I can't imagine being so fussy that I'd buy a range rover, two lexuses, aftermarket cosmetics, and still be unhappy with something. It makes me feel better about my $4k car to know that someone with a $55k Lexus isn't happy lol
There is no perfect car in this world. Everyone will be unhappy certain features or design no matter what.
I only wish I had $56k to drop on a vehicle. I love that ride. I am not fan of the all-drive but love just about everything else. Thanks for another awesome video Scotty. I wish you and your family a happy and prosperous 2023.
Buying new isn't smart. 56k is a waste. And you lose so much value. The newer they are, the cheaper they're made and have more computer crap in them
Wait a few years, when the market goes back to being more normal you’ll be able to pick up a used one eventually
@@davewilson7602 Market goes back? You think cars are getting cheaper? It's called inflation
We always buy new in cash and keep our Lexus for 10+ years. If you change your car every 5 years, better to buy used.
Yep 2022 Civics (even in my 2022 Si) same deal Auto Start/Stop. Super annoying... Too bad you have to do it every time the car starts. There is an aftermarket device for Honda/Acura that you wire in I am tempted to do it. "idlestopper"
Put it on my Ridgeline, it's a surprisingly huge quality of life improvement. Cost was worth it for me.
@@theearlyyardbird OK so it works... Good to know. How long have you had it on? Did you install the latest one 2.0 I believe that goes straight into factory wiring? As easy as the video shows? Thanks

If someone tries charging me $500 for a second key, I'm walking away.
Especially on a LUXURY car
Nickel and diming is unacceptable when you’re paying that much
Then you are walking because they all do this.
@@darkwood777 exactly. I have owned many cars and never lost a key. These newer car has chips in them and they have to be reprogrammed……
Scotty doesn't provide all the facts on this. I own a 2022 NX, and when I bought it, it came with 2 key Fobs and 1 card key, like the one Scotty was holding. Although, I heard recent buyers were only getting 1 key fob and the card key due to supply chain issues, but will be given a 2nd fob at a later date. Also, your phone can act as a digital key using the Lexus app. So the extra charge is actually for what amounts to a 4th physical key. But Scotty was absolutely right about everything else, the build quality is excellent, has amazing and useful tech, and is smooth to drive with more than enough oompf!

Honest question: Is the Mark Levinson stereo system upgrade worth the extra $$$ ?
No. If this were a German luxury cars, which are far more exciting, or a Tesla, Scooty would be ranting on why such an expensive sound system.
$56,000 for a stinking car... That's more than I paid for my first house...
More money printing
Remember, one Trillion dollar bills stacked up makes a stack over 65,000 miles high! And the omnibus bill was 1.7 Trillion, almost halfway to the moon.
Upon your advice, my wife is asking me to buy her an ICBM!
I've been driving diesel cars/Ute's for the last 30 years, the engines run for ever.
The hybrid version of that gets 39mpg. Even 45 in the city..and no auto stop start...no starter either lol
Do they come with manual windows and locks, cassette player? 😆

And why does a Lexus of any type(the excellent cars that they are) much less an SUV have racing seats(It's a soccer mom car with automatic shut off)???
Auto start/stop is good when you’re at those 6 min traffic lights. I know a guy that has it on his 7-series BMW. Not sure how much gas he saved, but the starter cost $1200 to replace.
The only start stop system is even trust long term are the ones in hybrids where the electric motors smoothly engage the gas engine. Haven’t heard of those systems breaking

Oh, I am liking those gloves Scotty - where they come from?
I dunno the model but the brand is Ironclad.
Those gloves were given to him for free from a company.
What happened to Scottie’s tooth ? WTF 😳
Hey Scotty if she got a early 2021 or older BMW anything 40i she could have got 100 more horsepower and about the same gas mileage AND you could send it to a BMW expert and they can code start/stop to default to OFF instead of ON. Same engine as in the Supra. Toyota knows BMW is the king of the in-line 6, RIP 2JZ. You need to drive a B58 engine.
Every dealer I have spoken to has said that they will not change their low profile or run-flat tyres to a beefier type of tyre, as it voids the warranty. So they don' t get to sell me any of their new cars that way. We have pot holes and grass down the middle of our local access roads, so need something like 215 65 16's to survive.
In Japan it's called idle stop. I think it's great. Idling wastes billions of gallons. The start up really fast. I don't understand why it bothers them.
Creates wear on the engine since the oil stops circulating and those starters are very expensive to replace when they fail.
The batteries are more expensive and will wear out faster because they have to run the electronics / AC with the engine off.
The gas you save will not make up for those things.
@@julian-gen lots of people have issues with it but I have been using it for years and years and find it’s very useful. The main complaints revolve around the delay or the AC, not the maintenance side of things. Even in a car lacking with power there is literally no delay with any vehicle from VAG so again, I don’t get the issue myself. I always have it on.
Thanks Scotty! Good review...you seem to like the Lexus RX. I'm having a tough time adjusting to a Lexus 4 cylinder engine. Gonna take some history to improve on the Lexus 6.
Scotty..."I am cheap..Lexus is out of my budget"..hehehe
Give her a picture of one! Merry Christmas Kilmer Family.
When I need a car I buy a car. When I need another home I get a mortgage. I don’t get mortgages for cars! Nothing over $420 per month is more than reasonable. Not paying $899 a month for any item that depreciates when it leaves the lot; they all do!!
My wife's GX has that Mark Levinson and it sounds great!
Scotty: My wife can drive any car she wants. As long as its a '94 celica, '07 Matrix or '02 Lexus.
My wife just forced me to buy another 94 Celica.... Smart Decision.
Scotty, I bought the exactly same car. The Auto/Stop/Start is also a safety hazard. You try to accelerate into traffic, and then you discover the car turned itself OFF, and has to start itself before you accelerate into traffic. Dangerous...
It’s not a safety hazard at all. Right when the brake pedal is released the vehicle will start up again. If your car isn’t doing that something must be wrong because the system shouldn’t interfere with driving at all
I get 61mpg from a $24,000 three year old corolla hybrid driving uber in the city only. With a regular corolla I would have payed 3 times more for gas. In ten years I will be saving thousands with it. It is the only scenario in which hybrids work. Many miles in the city.
I bought my wife a used 2015 Lexus hybrid that had 4k on it for $35k in 2016. It now has 24k on it. Runs great.
I know Scotty is not a big fan of the turbo charged new engines. However, I thought this video he gave a positive view of this one. We have always gotten 6 cylinder Toyota vehicles. This video helps.
What took Lexus so long to get the heads up display? BMW had that for over 10 years now. But I love Lexus over bmw.
I doubt ANYONE would replace all 4 tires for blowing out one. Those runflats are crazy expensive.
Personality as soon as the run flats wear out I will replaced them with non run flats. The run flats rides are rough.
waiting on a new gold tooth? I hope so put some bling on Scotty's smile!
3:23 they sell an auto start stop bypass. Pretty inexpensive aftermarket part that is worth it
It's great to finally see the conductor arms in 4K.
Scotty is the only person that admits on camera of speeding
this SUV costs about $90,000 in my country (Locally Built), not cheap
I had a caliber and installed an sri, it was fun until I got on the highway going uphill now it sits in the garage as my least favorite child
This was a pleasure to watch. Thanks Mr. K!
A beautiful crossover. Drives ultra smooth and is vault quiet. Will hold its value without the insane long-term maintenance/repair cost of its European rivals.
56k is still ridiculas.....it'll be worth like 20k in a few years....
Too bad hybrids are taking over in Europe, normal engines aren't even available for most Toyota, Honda and Lexus models anymore.
Toyota/Lexus or Honda/Acura, you are golden 👍
55K for a something that will depreciate once it leaves the dealership? Not a wise choice.
Even worse dropping 5 or 10k going to disneyworld for a week. Not a wise choice. Unless you can afford it, in which case you can’t take it with you.
Scotty, I disagree… That thing still has a huge howling mouth on it. If anything, it’s even bigger than it’s ever been

Put u pay a lot more up front. It won’t equal back out in the end; hence, costing more
How you pay up more up front a regular Corolla is around 22k you get hybrid it’s around 23k it’s not that much
But in a hybrid there are 3 main components to fail instead of 2. And all 3 need to be working in order to drive. Engine, battery, and transmission. Plus all those mentioned electric part versions cost much more. I have a car that has a hybrid version but mine is the gas version. Has the same engine as the hybrid version. The electric AC compressor on the hybrid costs 3-5x as much as the normal AC compressor on mine.
Here’s the weird twist of the nx hybird
It’s actually less expensive to get the hybrid then it is to get the nx turbo
@@Joeyyyy87 well, in the end, you'll be paying a lot to replace the hybrid battery. plus, they're hard to replace urself also because of how heavy they are
Lexus, with push button start, have a serious theft problem that Toyota is well aware of. In the GTA there's been dozens stolen in high end areas and repeatedly. Wouldn't buy one, couldn't afford the insurance.
Why not sell that Lexus to me and get the wife a new Lexus?! Come on Scotty!!! Take care of that wife, you know what they say happy wife happy life!! Lmao! And that 02 Lexus she has isn’t in bad shape at ALL! Thanks to you!!!

I took my driver training in Lexus I hated it the wipers came on by them selves it was hybrid so it felt gutless at times it was a 350 model I believe... Me I got my first car after that 2014 VW Tiguan I've heard good an bad about the Tiguan name plate but there a smooth nice driving vehicle and it's got the power to merge in the city some people have great luck with them too I know guy that had 250000 trouble free
you took driver training in an NX350H? 😂 I doubt it
Dead serious it was a Lexus SUV RX350 it was AMA drivers training it was partly owned by the company
Honda is screwing up with the 1.5 & CVT. 2.0 should be the smallest for a mid/full size vehicle
I have the NX350H on order with a premium package. It was only 45g USD all taxes in.
get a cx5 Turbo or a q5.
