- A family bike tour through the Algarve in southern Portugal from the Spanish border to Cabo de Sao Vicente and back to Lagos.

This was part of a 5 month long family bike tour of Europe we did on sabbatical.

Our path through the Algarve was definitely a tough way to start before we'd really established our cycling legs, but surviving it gave the girls some confidence for the rest of the trip.

What a great accomplishment and wonderful video, I never feel safe riding the streets here in Portugal. How well was the trail marked and was your route mainly the EuroVelo 1 and what was your favorite leg of this trip? TIA!
Thanks, we had a tough time with the traffic going through Portimao but that was really the worst of it. Portuguese drivers reminded me of my fellow Americans so it was mostly fine from our perspective. We used the EV1 for some of the time. We planned the route on Komoot and followed it, so no need for signage. You can see the route here: www.komoot.com/collection/1980017/-portugal-and-spain. Favorite leg is a tough call but Switzerland was tough to beat!

I noticed that you have an adapter to use the caravan park electricity outlet. I haven’t been able to find one for my bicycle tour in Europe coming up. Do you have a link or the adapter name?
We used a small adapter with male CEE17 plug to female 2-pin European socket. We found it at an electrical store in Sevilla for about 5 euros. They often have them to rent or borrow at campgrounds but it was easier to have our own.

You seemed to have plotted a nice route. How did you make the route?
I leveraged a few routes I found on Komoot and made changes to fit what we were going for, which was to avoid traffic and take unpaved roads when possible. Plus lots of time looking at roads in Google satellite view and street view. This was the section of our trip that I spent the most time planning.
Thank you for explaining this! My experiences with Komoot have also been excellent. Even if no existing routes are available, the algorithm manages to leverage great backroads and build beautiful routes. I have used it in Japan for two long trips and was consistently surprised about the routes it cobbled together. Of course, a big thank you goes to the amazing open street maps data underneath the app. @@pedalpowerfamily
