- The public memorial for comedian Bernie Mac was held on August 16, 2008 at Salem Baptist Church's The House of Hope in Chicago. Fellow King of Comedy, Cedric the Entertainer, reflects on Mac.
This is how a funeral is supposed to be. We are supposed to laugh & remember the good times. It's ok to cry but a funeral is a going home celebration.

I wore glasses to my brother's funeral, because i looked horrible from crying so much. He is wearing the glasses to hide his tears, nothing wrong with glasses at a funeral.

its a funeral. Why are people worried so much about their appearance. Its not a fucking show, or a get together. Wearing all these flashy clothes and showing off is so disrespectful to the deceased because it takes away attention from the dead and draws attention to the wrong people. When will the west learn.

I think Cedric understood more than the other two that just because it's a homegoing/funeral you don't have to be "programmed" to cry. That's that "old-fashioned pre-conceived idea" about funerals. It's a celebration of life and if you don't do anything else, be encouraging to the family and those that have been left here on earth.

This is how I want my funeral! I don't want weeping and wailing! Celebrate my life! It's been a good life, a happy life, so laugh. Celebrate my love of humor, fun, and happiness. Don't be sad for a person who can no longer feel pain and sorrow. Celebrate them finding eternal peace and love.

The day after Bernie died, Ced and DL called in to the Steve Harvey Morning radio show and said a few words. Contrary to what this video showed, Ced seemed to be the most 'tore up' about Bernie's death. He damn near cried the whole time he was on the phone with Steve. Steve and DL were upset as well, but more composed than Ced. Losing a close friend/family member is never easy, and I think Ced gave an appropriate eulogy under the circumstances.

The disease that finally took his life he hid from the general public quite well. I had absolutely no idea he was suffering from a debilitating disease for almost his entire life. Pisses me off when people die sooner than they should. Particularly someone who brought so much entertainment into people's lives. Rest in peace my man.

@@ReadyorNot811he and Bernie had beef in like the early to mid 00’s that’s why we never got another Kings of Comedy. However they did patch things up but it was only like a month before Bernie’s passing. So they missed all that time and was only cool for 1 month before Bernie passed.
You see love in the demeanor and body language. True friendships are hard to find especially when you don’t grow up together.

You know happiness is a choice. Even at the funeral, his friends honored him with their gifts for bringing laughter. It's normal to feel down that someone is no longer here, but being able to smile and laugh even in spite of is what he would want. No one would want their loved ones to stop living life because they've died.

I think that all funerals should be talking about that person in a way that it's not sad memories of them and more than an obituary, fun stories if there are any and good, not sad music. People may still cry somewhat but, it shouldn't be too bad if it's a positive enough service. Steve really looked like he was struggling with Bernie's death.

I was literally 5 years old when they announced his death back in 2008 , I was 4 turning on 5 I had no idea who he was but my family played his comedy shows all the time and that’s how I knew who he was , awesome funny spirit ❤️ R.I.P
