I bought a GT Aggressor for around $450 several years ago from L.L. Bean. That's a high price but it was with "Bean Bucks" which is a reward program attached to a credit card, so free to me. The forks on it actually travel 100mm from weightless to total bottom out (as measured by how much piston was cleaned from dirty when pushing down hard). Those forks are kinda jittery meaning grab/release, not smooth. The shifts are decent but often hunt and you have to correct a bit. The derailleur, even when adjusted by a pro bike shop will still sometimes put a chain beyond the easiest gear, which is total momentum kill when climbing, and that kills momentum for everyone behind you too. Seat stem will change angle no matter how tight you tighten it: Rear sinks front lifts because the teeth to hold the angle are a joke. This happens despite me being a light rider at 150 pounds and I'm usually off the seat for any type of stress/shock. The frame is perfectly fine. Location of controls is good. Tires are ok, but not at all good for real mountain biking. Pedals have held up very well despite being plastic. Chain tension is too loose making it fall off the front sprocket when going over bumps/rocks. Gear ratios include a very wide range for speed on flats or power for uphill climbing, so long as you're careful that you don't shift in a way that the chain goes off the easiest rear sprocket. So, this is not at all a mountain bike; not even close. BUT, it would be an excellent rail trail bike or on/off road hybrid for mild/light duty. If you want to go fast on a gravel rail trail, this bike is great, if not perfect. If you want to get to your buddies' houses by road and relatively smooth off road paths, this bike is well suited for that. Green mountain trails, nope, too many chain drops and the suspension is inadequate. If you want to do blue, black, or double black mountain trails, this bike shouldn't be considered at all for safety reasons.
@@theroadnottakentravel There's certainly no sin in that; especially if you're not trying to get the best time for the trail. Many riders are best off walking the bike through sketchy parts regardless of what bike they have, just to keep safe.
Thanks for your input! You're not wrong. As is, it shouldn't be marketed as a mountain bike. Will take a significant amount of upgrading to make it somewhat suitable.
I picked up a blue one for a steal. I put on a 120mm air fork, 35mm stem, and converted to a 1x with spare and cheap amazon parts. The 120mm fork really improves the overall geometry. Now its a blast to ride on greens and even blues. Really makes me rethink my Commencal Meta HT. My next bike will be somewhere between the 2.
Great detailed video and beautiful rare color on yours! I've got myself a slightly used one for $290 2 weeks ago, it's the cement color woth orange and blue stickers, great bike for XC. My first upgrade was the seat 😅
You said you got the Large frame, how tall are you, bro? I've been checking on this bike periodically on their website to see if I can come up during one of their Online-Sales if they ever drop it to like something super-cheap. I don't need it, but I think it'd be cool to have one around. I'd just like to know what size frame to pull the trigger on, I'm 5'9 about 180 pounds.
Hello! I just got this bicycle and i haven't had a bike in 20 years. I have no clue how to work the gear system on this... any help would be greatly appreciated!!
It's a great bike to have. Would have to recommend you find a local bicycle shop to learn more about your bicycle, or check out some RUclips videos that teach you about the gear system. We don't know enough about them to be of much help. Hope you enjoy the journey!
I bought my 2020 GT Aggressor Pro secondhand about 2 years ago. It's been a solid bike for me so I didn't really upgrade anything until last summer. The front and rear derailleurs started acting weird so going AdventX 1X10 with a 30T chainring was the first major upgrade. Found cheap Specialized 2.6" tires over the holidays so will switch to those soon. There's a fork upgrade program that you can find online if you're wanting an air fork. Stock coil suspension fork only had 80 mm travel so would've been nice to switch cheap. Have fun at the trails!
have new tires yet? I just purchased Specialized Purgatory for my GT A. for 13.95 a piece on closeout. Specialized also offers the Slaughter and Hillbilly on closeout as well. If living in SA area, I would think the Slaughter would be best of the three. I have seen those as low as $11.95.
Bontranger Commuter Comp is a good soft seat. I ve had them two fuji road bike, and i just pickyup one of these GT s two days ago! Works very well for long commutes too!
Yup, I still have it. Seems like Dick's has dropped the price significantly to clear stock since they are coming out with the next version from what we've heard. It's been as low as $299. Something to keep an eye out for if you're still in the market for this bicycle.
I have upgraded my GT-AP and really enjoyed the process. It is a much more capable bike now. How are you planning to use this bike? I built mine for riding my local trails. Willing to pass along some knowledge if you are interested.
Thanks for commenting, I appreciate it. And yes - please pass along that knowledge, I'm in need of some for sure. I'm building my GT for pretty much the same as you, local trails. I'm only on the beginner ones at the moment. So what did you change / upgrade?
Yes we are - good to meet you my friend! Have you changed / upgraded anything to your bike as of yet? And we should definitely get together and ride, that would be awesome.
@@lifeunfazed yeah. My first A-Pro was stolen but modified with a lot of RaceFace products to lighten it up and make the riding stance more comfortable for me. I did pedals, 1x conversion, stem, handlebars, grips plus some head/tail lights for riding downtown, and a phone holder for my phone I also have a rear rack and bags for bike packing which I’m hoping to do this fall.
@@robperez3433 Wow, that's a bummer man. Especially after you put so much work into it. So I don't know much about Raceface, but everything I've read says they have good quality components. I will look into them more for sure. I'm new to mountain biking so I'm not on the up and up with all the good brands.
@@lifeunfazed I started again last Christmas after not riding for about 25 years. I love the hobby and am far from being an expert but there is so much info on RUclips. Check out Wolftick videos.
