- The 80 Series Land Cruiser (including this 1994 version) are going down as one of the best off-road SUVs to ever be created. They do a fantastic job of mixing reliability with more modern comforts, as well as styling and custom off-road capabilities. In this video I am giving a complete review, and overview of one of the best Land Cruisers you can buy.
I borrowed this from The Dirt Tourist! You can check out his Instagram here: / thedirttourist

My '97 is only up to 213k and JUST had the D light die. Practically new.
I've had my 97 LC for 20 years now. It's the only vehicle i kept over those years and it's still running fine. Rust on the other hand....
rear "spoiler" is to create a downdraft that keeps dirt off the rear window.
That makes a lot of sense!
318,000 on my 1996 80 series. Only uses 1/2 quart every 3k miles! I will do a GM LS swap if the 6cyl ever quits. However, I'm 60 years old and it may outlive me! 🤣. I've really enjoyed working on, modifying and expolring trails with this amazing vehicle.
Thanks for sharing!
We searched for a year to find a triple locked 80. It’s a fantastic vehicle - goes anywhere, including places we probably shouldn’t have tried, with room/seating for the whole family and puppies.
The flip-up 3rd row is pretty legit. Like you said, not as convenient as the more modern fold-flat option.
Great video bro!
I want the window fans that create airflow and keep bugs out! Very nice
I’ve owned my 80 seies for 21 years now bought it when it was 8 years old and now have installed an LS 6 litre in it more powers and better fuel economy 5 speed manual
My 1993, triple locked LC has 342k miles and still running strong and it does have a tailgate not the swing door. I bought the truck 3 years ago with 330k miles for $4000 . I use it to drive on beach when surf fishing so the lockers don't get much use. Painted it white so it looks like yours with stock wheels and 33 inch tires.
That's awesome!
Nicely put together, but… In the US the 80 series never had a full rear door swing to the side. And even in other countries they only had an option for “barn doors”, basically 2 normal doors that opened to the left and right. The only model I’m aware of with a full side swing rear door are the Landcruiser Prado which the US never received. The full side swing doors didn’t come until the early 90’s on the GX470 (Prado 120).
Thanks for that info! Looks like I did a bit of my research wrong here. Appreciate the correction there!
I love my 80! Nice video.
Thanks!! Appreciate it!
i got addicted to my 97 . Had for over 10 years now I am bought a second one. 1996. love both of them .
That's really awesome!!
Now I'm not too sure how true this is but I heard for the first time today that "the rear spoiler changes airflow traveling over the roof, and directs it down the rear glass. The idea is to keep the hatch glass clearer, by redirecting dust or water swirling up, from tires and under vehicle turbulence, that would otherwise collect."
I've heard the same thing since putting this video together!
Great vid, what is the silver plug coming off air box ?
I have 93 with the complete air box.
I got a 91 that im restoring right now, it looks just like this one. These cars are so underrated, they are amazing.
That is awesome to hear! They really are great rigs.
nice review, but the prado was the only model with the side rear door, and now the newer gx models for US market. Other than than that, the barn doors were on the 40, 60, 70,80 and 105 series US never got 70s or 105 and never got barn doors. I have had 2 of these, and what a truck, they are super awesome in all kinds of terrain and yes the only negative is the fuel consumption and with added weight it gets pretty bad. but the ones to get for that 80s model is the 95 to 97 with diff locks, and if possible with a 4.2 turbo diesel and manual transmission, they are out there. but rare to come come by.
@2:46 ya kept calling it 1ze-fe but it's 1fz-fe lol keep up the 80 series content
Thanks! Yeah, I caught that as well... after publishing! Should have more Land Cruiser content coming here at some point.
12 and 15. I'd say that's even high for mpg! These tanks love to drink
The spoiler is for forcing air onto the rear window and blow the dust off and snow.
Great quality video. What kind of microphone you use. Very good quality sound with no wind noise
That makes a lot of sense, appreciate it! I'm using a RODE Wireless ME for this video. I have gone through quite a few microphones to get to this point, but this definitely seems to be the right one for these videos. I'm really impressed with it!
18 years and 248,000 miles of TRD Supercharged FZJ80 ownership. Tach makes a lot of sense in an automatic - lock in a gear in sand and I want to know what my engine speed is doing.
Fair enough!!
My 92 is slow. Would not trade it for the world.
Daily drive if you get a second job for gas 😂😂😂
I love my fzj80 tho
I like it
1 "F"Z-FE. You said 1ZZ,FE so many times. That is a 1.8L 4cyl.
It definitely is a HUGE engine though if you've ever tried to take the engine apart.
I had to stop watching at 5:37 though sorry. Once you said from 90-93 they had a large swing out hatch and 94 was the first year of the clamshell rear hatch. That rear tailgate and hatch style was on every year of the 80 in the USA. Every year of the 60/62 in the USA, so since 1981.
Thanks for the feedback and additional info! I definitely do my best to continue getting better with these reviews, and will take this into account.
*oil pressure gauge
Please edit that the engine in the 80 is the 1FZFE
Yeah, not sure how I missed that!
This Looks like mine.
That's awesome, it was a great rig!
1fz-fe
Thanks for the correction! I unfortunately didn't catch this till after posting the review (what was I thinking right?).
It's 1FZ-FE 👍
Haha yeah... I knew that, just for some reason kept saying it wrong in the video. Didn't realize until after posting.
@@readysetrev ha ha, no worries mate, enjoyed the video nonetheless 👍
