That statement when taken into the context of his opponents running things like Hydradrive, Dinowrestler, Despair from the Dark Turbo and Appliancer is a lot less impressive.

6:45 Legit, Rebecca was playing better early 2000s Yugioh than any duelist in Duelist Kingdom. She was running a resource loop with Sangan/Witch, had a defensive lock which forced you to either summon a 2 tribute monster or spend removal to get rid of Millennium Shield, she had Cannon Soldier to burn for game, and Shadow Ghoul as a backup beatstick if her strategy got hit. And then in the KC Grand Prix filler arc, she shows back up with Scapegoat, Imperial Order, and Gravity Bind. Girl is goated.

I personally count the Lightning Duel as a draw in the final results, since the 1 LP was just for show o explai why he didn't die. That duel should be seen as a win since Revovler forced him too cheat twice, in one occasion preventing him from going to game.
Edit (01/16): Ideally, I see and would count this as a Revolver Win (like Kaiba would be, non-cheating, result vs Noah).
However I say Draw in regards on what the objectivily counts as consequences and events inside of the show, as well the duel ended. In another words, how it is put on the paper and registered, including the fact Lightning cheated.
Revolver was a better/stronger duelist than Lightning overall. I don't count the end of this duel as a loss for revolver in any shape or form.

It's even worse than what you said, for Go Onizuka (and for VRAINS overall). For most of the VRAINS anime, Dragonlink was far from being a thing. Rokkets were nonexistent in the competitive scene cause they were struggling to do special summons. So Revolver and Playmaker were the strongest duelists in the series, and they were both playing the worse decks, in the middle of all the secondary characters being on Altergeist, Trickstar and Gouki.
Which leads to Go VS Revolver being one of the absolute worst display of Gouki plays of the whole series. Go literally starts by link summoning Thunder Ogre and KEEPING IT ON THE FIELD so that Revolver is allowed to use the bonus normal summon for himself. Then the next turn Revolver has a card preventing Go from attacking if he doesn't have 4 links on his field, so Go overextends like crazy just to be able to attack, summon 4 links (including a Great Ogre that could have had something in defense under it, maybe?) and walks straight into Mirror Force.
The funny part about him changing his deck to Dinowrestler after that? All the Dinowrestler boss monsters have a built-in Ancient Gear effect (no spell/traps activations when they attack). He was so traumatized by Mirror Force, he switched to an archetype where every boss monster is protected from that card.

    • @juliuswatcher1157
      @juliuswatcher1157 10 месяцев назад +4

@@elijahpadilla5083 I have to wonder how thing would've gone in the Playmaker duel if she had any other card in her hands besides Dark Angel (given by Hanoi with the Virus that affected her), since it is the only card left in her hand after she tries to win through her skill.
In Soulburner case, if memory serves me, it was kinda of a gambit when he attacked: Her deck weakness was the low ATK of her cards, but she improved by adding cards like Colabane. During their turn, Soulburner and Flame expected her to play Colabane (that she addded back to her hand the prevous turn and they knew that) to compesate for weakness and therefore trigger his Violet Chimera effect. If she didn't she could've make a comeback next turn (his LP was only 100) or continue the duel. She actually didn't need to use Calobane to survive, but, likely due to this psychoological factor, she was more inclined to activate it to conserve her life points or thinking that she didn't use, she would lose (Chimera effect was unknown to her).
As the series went on, almost everyone she was dueling against started to put cards to stop/counter her burn tactics (like Soulburner's Gate of Fire trap). That is why she played her decks with a mix of offensive and burn. But several times she had game even when countered, yet (due to writers and plot) her loses were due to pulling some of nowhere which would never be used again due to being highly specific (Bohman Interference Canceller plus Hydradriver Mutation combo, and using Tesseract Monarch; all only in this duel).
Only in S1 her dules were realtively fair when she lost (even the Playmaker one, since he let himself get damaged to prop his Storm Access, and his initial hand had 4 mysterious card that could've been made into anything to minimize damage if she tried to do the Trickstar Lycoris OTK on him).

During S1 the way she dueled was part actually doing good plays but also part to entertain(since Charisma duelist are classified as pro in dueling and giving fun) . Hence she would not try to FTK/OTK to prevent things for going boring. Maybe (and this is just me rather than shown / proven) since she got high status, some people would try to play with cards that would give them LP, thus she needed tor rely on battle as well.
Vs Playmaker she also had her reason of trying to impress her brother plus the above, likely why she didn't the most optimal play to prove she could beat him fair and square. Regardless, Yusaku had 4 cards we never see him use before being banished by Reincarnation: she she tried to FTK, the writers could make any of those be qucik-play effects, maybe with discard cost, to reduce his hand size. Since she didn't, he lets the burn happen to help prop his Storm Access (as limlied in the duel). The brainwashing and Dark Angel card didn't likley help things either.
Vs Specter: he had a deck that countered her by gaining LP, having higher ATK monsters and stealing her resources. He also studied the way she dueled and prepared to counter her futher (like banishing all her 3 Reincarnations, and having a plan B Trap Crad if she had a way to recover thoses- as she did- or had another way to inflcit high concentrated burn damage). It was not one side, however, considering she was able to hang on and adapt, while dueling more seriously (since her Baira duel).
Season 1 was fair and made sense on why she loses, and coud prompt a future developmment of being more serious and improving her tactics. But from Season 2 onwards the writers couldn't bother with her due to plot or behind characters agendas they wanted to push. They kept her using burn strats, while giving every strong duelist anti/counter burn cards, and / or had due questionable plays for character reasons:
Vs Soulburner: they needed to push him as this really strong duelist by beating her after a hard duel; but how to balance her not winning whe she has him on the rope most of the duel? they not only they gave him that card whose only purpose was to counter trickstar 200 burn, but they needed her to misplay by a psycological reason that Soulburner and Flame predicted she would, to make they fusion get the kill; where if she did nothing she would've survived the attack.
Vs Bohman: They gave him a anti burn card that she would've been able to overcome and win, if he also didn't had a mosnter to reset his burn card. Then, after she has a mosnter that has over 4000 ATK and is unnnafected by everything and could block several attacks; they have him use, only in this duel, a mosnter that affects the player and bypass her defenses. If she didn't reborn her Crystal heart, she would've survived. Bohman would lose his boss by it own effect, but stil had a unknown card in his hand, while she would need to top deck. Likely, that mysterious card would save Bohman and he would win. But since the writers couldn' bother with more turns for her, they had do the misplay likelydue to knowing she had nothing left and wanted to go down with head held high.
I she used her Trickstar, you know Bohman not only had that anti burn card (maybe others) but also would've played cards that changed her LIGHT attribute mosnters to one he could handle (like he did in vs Playmaker Round 2).
Vs Ai: Like Bohman, another final boss for the season, so she was not beating him. He won by knowing her Marincess strategies and burn tendecies. Though she could've won if Akira hadn't left her with so low LP, otherwise she would've survived Ai trap and won. She was carrying the team that duel, even if her dedication to her brother made her put cards to synergize with his deck (Tindagles) to her detriment.
Considering Ai spared her you think they would have her duel one more time to serve as payoff for all her struggle during the series, like having her duel Roboppi (who had similar themes of brotherhood, fantasy, joy; also because Roboppi beat Ghost Girl andBlood Sherperd), but they gave the two duels before the finale to Soulburner, instead of just the vs Revovler one.

Yeah.....I hate when anime does this. Like if you're going to make an overpowered character who can easily get a win, why not just let them get a win once so it's understandable why everyone else tries to make counters against them. Or hey here's an idea, make the loses believable. From what I hear season 1 is ok, but having an opponent draw 1 card they'll never use again just to counter this one deck is kinda lame and ruins the duel a bit.
Idk I just have this issue whenever an anime does this. I've been watching bleach lately and they do this exact thing to 2 characters in it. They both have rather broken abilities and could do more, but are constantly beaten/put on the sideline because of how the tension would be gone if the anime made use of their powers

Yes it was abundantly clear that the franchise hated female characters doing well, but it's hard to believe that _VRAINS_ wasn't at least trying to prove that.

I will always get brainrot from the way that Aporia lost in 5Ds, aside from Meklords being just straight up bad, in the context of 5Ds they were downright broken. Yet despite this they had to just let Yusei win last second by nothing more than plot convenience and something that downright unfair, playing the game during your opponents turn. Glad that never came to the game as some sort of mechanic

Which is a shame, the less air time you get in the anime the less cards you'll have made for your archetype, that in turn means less time with viewers and less time for the archetype to become popular. As you can see with the SD for Red Dragon Archfiend (that fave easy access to almost all of his cards), and the new "Red Lotus King, Flame Crime", he got a much bigger wave of support in a much shorter amount of time than Rose Dragons, Morphtronics or Black Wings, all of which have to wait longer for small amounts of cards that are not as pushed.
Other archetypes need a few cards that feel pushed to be amazing, especially those with only 2 real boss monsters and they both have two sided, terrible board wipes for modern game play.
