This movie wants to have it both ways. They want to treat half a dozen sequels like they don't exist, but they also want to give Michael a weight and gravitas that he wouldn't have without the events of these sequels. They are depending on the audience to know he's a big deal like when Cumbersnatch announces that he is Khan in Into Darkness. That should mean nothing to anybody in that scene except the people watching it and it pisses me off

I get that thought process but at the same time I’m sure for the average person any one of these events would be enough to cause anyone to be like this version of Laurie Strode, with the mind being a very fragile thing. Also I am kinda glad they didn’t involve Halloween 2 in this because I just hated that whole subplot where of which Laurie is Michael’s sister. It made no sense in my opinion and added nothing to the plot, I think they added it as a means to explain why Michael is after Laurie, but that to me at the time I saw it and even to this day just felt needless and if anything just took away from that factor of fear from what Michael Myers is. To me it’s the less I know about certain characters that makes them more scary, not knowing why they do what they do just makes me think I’m just prey to them. So I can totally understand Laurie’s personality in this film. It would have been nice if they kept H20 as canon to the film but that I think would’ve had more problems than just pulling a full clean slate.

"Why would Michael being Laurie's brother make people feel better?"
Because Michael having no connection to Laurie or the five people he murdered means that anyone could be a victim. Other people might feel safer if Michael and Laurie were related because if Laurie is his only target they wouldn't be in danger (provided they don't get in between him and his sister). The only thing scarier than someone having a motive to kill five people is someone having no motive and still killing five people.

Counter argument: Why couldn't Michael have been related to any of the other victims and Laurie simply got caught in the cross hairs?
Not that you could prove it, but Michael's fixation with Laurie could have been she was the one to go to his home and drop the papers off. That this movie erases all but the first hurts it because it needs that tie in. Otherwise, why does Laurie fixate on him? From an investigatory point of view, Laurie was simply the next person on his list. He saw her. He saw that she saw him. He knew to get away, he'd need to kill her.

Michael Plowman because John Carpenter said himself that Michael had no real motive in the first movie. There wasn’t supposed to be a sequel. Loomis’ explained Michaels character: that he purely and simply evil with no conscience. He was going back to his hometown, saw Laurie first and then began stalking her and her friends. No relationships. No real motive. She just happened to be the one that got away. It’s a simple concept that doesn’t need to be over complicated

Maybe the reason why Myers stalks Laurie in the first film, and kind of with this film, is because when he targets someone, he intends to kill them. Since Laurie escaped, he wants to finish what he started. She was the one who escaped. That could be why he has plenty of focus on her. When he sees a random teen, they die shortly thereafter and stalk them like he did Laurie. Just a theory

You know I liked the vibe of this flick at first. There was something legitimately bone-chilling about just seeing huge Michael Myers' silhouette in this maximum security prison and knowing he will get out at some point.
Unfortunately that foreboding flame of fear was pretty quickly snuffed out by a combination of cheesy gen-z teen humor attempting to lighten everything and Michael getting his ass kicked by an old lady at every turn.
I suppose my biggest gripe is that my Halloween movie basically turned into Home Alone with Lori as the kid and Michael as the robbers.

So true. This series ignoring installments whenever it feels like it has killed fans not just spitting fanboy crap and seriousness. Also the failure to make the thorn storyline work over 3 films when it's barely in the first two of it. But even with H20 they could've went from there or Laurie's bloodless kill in Ressurection even. You can't ignore Halloween II regardless-it means too much no matter what. Least with Jason there's "supernatural strong but hardly invincible guy with messed up face since childhood" and "zombie gothic horror Jason." Fans may be divided but there's really only one world, and if you want to say, two. Not...1...2....3...I lost count on Halloween (not including the remakes). I care more about uncut and/or restored scenes to make Halloween 5 better than sequel to fake loomis, crappy sarah connor rip-off plotting, and disrespecting danielle harris jamie loyd (again!) anyday. And 5 is definitely lower tier in the halloween franchise.

Like some traditional journalists, some podcasters just see the story and don't see the people involved in those stories as people.
Plus you have the modern horror trope that most of the victims have to have some serious flaw.

The podcasters were using the situation to their benefit. They were no doubt trying to exploit this story and make money off of it. They were professional podcasters. I'm sure that's how they make a living via their podcasts.

1:41 “I would give every sin back if they had a scene showing the podcasters opening up a 1978 Captain Kirk mask and painting it-“ The original mask was actually made from a 1975 Captain Kirk mask

That's what he meant lol. He's just saying it's weird for two random podcasters to have the actual mask.

@@comedychrises I wouldn't be surprised if Family Guy also referenced it, but I haven't watched that show.

I don't like how each movie retcons previous movies. Not having them be brother and sister really disappointed me.

“Murdilated” I cracked up how you said it. I also can’t understand how the reporter said there was no reaction when he pulled out the mask. So much chaos happened AND michael moved his head to the side in acknowledgement of it! 😂

It would have been a greater movie if Micheal never got caught. 40 years later, after terrorizing little towns all over the country, he comes back in Haddonfield. It's scarier to know he has been free for 40 years instead of "I prayed every night for him to escape".
