"Speaking of Ho's, Ken Shamrock found his sister in the boiler room." Not that there aren't funny lines in this series but this one had me giggling for ages! 🤣
I am from Russia and this nitro show was the first episode of pro wrestling show ever in our country! It was shown on semi-cable channel with famous russian showman Nikolai Fomenko and it was awesome! Of course 99% didn’t know about existence of WWF that time and thats why for us NITRO was the brilliant! Now it’s so pleasant for me to watch monday night wars retrospective and I would like to thank you so much! You have already made titanic job! Happy New Year - luck and health to you and all your close ones! ❤❤❤
I still can’t get over that this is still going. I remember the old scoring system and asking if this should continue. We are all grateful that you decided to keep it up. For that we are all thankful
Triple H seems to be slowly but surely turning into the look we would know him best for for pretty much the rest of his career.. He certainly looks more chizzled now, Has the Elbow Pads.. I imagine we are not that far away from him ditching the tights and moving to Trunks.. Anywho.. Great ep as ever.
This show has given me a new love for Billy Kidman, growing up I only ever watched WWF while only seeing WCW while switching channels. I wish I would've watched more because he really was the real deal.
Honestly, it does show that regardless of the notorious Fingerpoke of Doom, WCW still at this point had all the pieces to compete with the Fed in quality, if you let the talent do what they were best at.
As much as Godfather deserved an IC title run, watching this made me sad considering it means Over the Edge is almost here. I thought it was later in the year than it was.
I remember laughing so hard at the closing moments of this Raw back then. I was expecting Rock to somehow throw Austin off the bridge but I wasn't expecting the dummy to fall into the river! Jerry Lawler's screaming just put it over the top. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I was watching at the time. At this point, I was just about checked out of WCW despite the presence of my alltime fave Bret Hart. Looking back, it hasn't aged well. Too many promos, backstage stuff and not enough ring action. I didn't mind the edgier stuff, but not when it sacrificed actual matches.
I still remember Ken putting the ankle lock while drenched in blood on Christian and he's asking where taker is and Christian isnt selling it as much as he should but I guess since he's a part of Taker's ministry he's partly supernatural at that point
I like seeing WCW win a Reliving The WAR Episode but it's super frustrating knowing what's to happen next. The main event scene is actually very interesting and is EXACTLY what needed to happen after Sting won starrcade 97. Not early 1999!!
I'm more used to him than the masked version simply because of the sacrilege Eric Bitchoff committed! Juventud also, Psychosis later on... I've been watching Rey Mysterio, Jr since his ECW Arena days circa 1995...
I definitely remember watching this episode of Raw when it aired. The scenes on the bridge with The Rock and Austin were filmed at the foot of the Belle Isle Bridge (formally known as the Douglas MacArthur Bridge) - over land. The telltale mark is the concrete railing, which only exists at the foot of the bridge; over the actual river, the railing is steel. And while there's a grove of trees next to this part of the bridge in 2023, the land beneath this part of the bridge in 1999 was fairly barren; a good place to put a stunt airbag. As for the shots from the water, where the dummy and the apparent belt went over, that was not the same bridge - the MacArthur Bridge has very distinct architecture thar the bridge shown in these shots lacks. The shooting of the scene at night did a fairly decent job of obscuring the details of the surrounding landscape, but the different bridge in the shot from the river still stands out likr a sore thumb to a native Detroiter like myself.
What a week! My 34th birthday was on the 26th! And now I'm watching an episode of Reliving The War with my favorite WCW wrestler Kidman in the thumbnail! 😅
Happy birthday bud! This series is my favorite on youtube ever. Im 31 and i always get so excited to relive my attitude era childhood every thursday as an adult with more knowledge lol.
Sad day today , my cat whom i had rescued from the street just passed away in my arms . 😢 Thank God it's thursday war day cause i really need some joy right now. I know i shouldn't be so sad , because i gave her a beautiful home and a warm plush bed and loving kindness . I promised her a forever home and that i was not gonna put her out on the streets like her previous family did. All i know is that she died knowing she was home and that she was loved. Rest in peace my sweet Bambi😢
I still can't get over DDP being heel here; I know he was a heel, but he was much better as a face, so to unnecessarily dip back into being a heel...but also win the World Title seems backwards.
I already like having ddp as the champ. It’s been a while since there’s been a fighting champion on wcw… and the sad part is they had ddp, sting and Bret who all could’ve exceeded in that role in 98 when wcw still had good steam
Can never get my head around watching these videos, those born in the 2000s weren't even alive then. It all feels like it was 10yrs max. Late 90s wrestling was peak!

Thanks again for all your hard work putting this series together. We're getting close to the point I tapped out watching wresting and moved onto other forms of entertainment, but I intend to see how it ends on RTW. Have a Happy New Year.
I am stuffed with Wrestling Bios content over these past few days and I am so glad! Another Thursday and another Reliving the War in the books, great work as always!
This literally makes life better. My life was already great but Reliving the War makes it even greater. Thank you very much. This is very much appreciated.
I always felt The Rock's trash talk as a heel was always better than a face. I get they had to make him a good guy because of his popularity, but Cooperate Rock and Hollywood Rock were his best roles.
IT DOESN'T MATTER whether The Rock was face or heel. His trash talk was always off the charts, at least during the Attitude era. That's what made him a legend.
Speaking of Rock, I kinda like this new iteration of a heel Rock we're getting on modern day WWE with "The Final Boss". Just a completely different kind of evil Rock from Corporate Champ and Hollywood.
Just finished watching the Spring break, decided to watch 2 videos in 1 day, thank you so much, Ryan, for all the content you've been making! Much love!!!

Jim Cornette ALWAYS talks about how nobody is watching wrestling anymore, and if you were around during the MNW's it's definitely not the same today as it was back then... Those were some INSANE ratings! Monday's were for pro wrestling! 🖕🏼 🏈
WCW putting on good shows. I'm happy to see that. I don't have too much in depth knowledge of Nitro past when Hogan goes back to the red and yellow. Before then, it's moments I remember watching on Nitro. After that, it's only infamous moments I heard about, rather than watched myself.
Man, you're show is so amazing! I started watching it a while back and got totally caught up, then decided to rewatch it all for things I may have missed. I'm just today all caught back up again. And this time my wife is a fan with me! We each bought a shirt from you and are ordering more with taxes. Where do we email the pics? Would love to send ya some! My God man you've sat through this 181 times? God bless you and thank-you. This particular era of wrestling always annoyed me. Either someone's getting jumped non raw by all those factions or there's an hour straight of talking on Nitro
I always found the booking of ddp very odd around this time and then having him as a heel then tweener then heel again it was really confusing but again this was wcw in general at the time
Another great episode of Reliving the war this episode of Raw and nitro were great the seeds for the corporate ministry's formation was awesome this series has come a long way since the first episode great stuff as always.
Another fair decision. Looking at everything and not just the ratings. Yeah, lots of guys challenging for the WCW World Title. Unfortunately, I'm sure plenty of fans were still remembering the "finger poke of doom" fiasco. Anyway, Happy New Year!
This was my favorite version of Sting. The Crow look with the fire of the old school Sting. And this promo against Flair is my favorite Sting promo of all time. Man, was I happy to see The Stinger again.
The way WCW booked DDP during this part of 1999 was goofy. They have Page set up as a heel. But Savage blatantly helps him win the title, even though you'd think the last thing Savage would want is a guy he was in a blood feud with less than 2 years prior having the title. Then Page is still in a going nowhere feud with Steiner. So was he a face or a heel or a tweener?
I disagree that he should have won at Halloween Havoc 98. I do think it's dumb how this soft reset is happening. Page and Savage working together? Disco Inferno suddenly out of the Wolfpac? Sting not targeting the man who put him out, Bret Hart, nor mentioning his time in the Wolfpac?
"Speaking of Ho's, Ken Shamrock found his sister in the boiler room." Not that there aren't funny lines in this series but this one had me giggling for ages! 🤣

JR officially returns back to being the babyface play by play commentator on Raw for the first time since November 30th, 1998.
A role he continues to have today.
I was a huge fan at the time and I remember hating ALL the Jim Ross stuff. I was too young to think of JR as an icon.
did they ever explain why JR suddenly went from being a bitter heel announcer back to being the beloved babyface commentator we know and love?
