I would recommend at least a small round and medium round brush
(#0 and #8) but the brush size you use depends on how large you paint the piece and your personal preference

Thanks for the fun valentine idea. I painted our orphaned deer with a rose in her mouth, thanking us for all the apples I suppose. Still not getting as good of water blooms as you; perhaps some paints don't move as much as others.
