Dear Viltrox, thanks for having the guts to send your lens for this review. This is a fantastic alternative to all the carbon copy reviewers who just state the same things over and over. I think this review was great for those who are in the market for this kind of lens with its bulk. I love the sharpness and the price. And I am a happy owner of at least to other viltrox lenses. 👍
@@FK-we1dp I think at some point he will break down and get a Bolex 16mm and do a short, very good film. It has to be film. I'd pay good money to see it.

Ya get enough of an idea of the equipment to choose to dig deeper if ya think it’s a fit for your needs or just enjoy the surrounding entertainment flare he adds to the reviews if it wonk fit your needs without feeling like you waste time.
I could see myself using this. I do lots of sports photos and video. BUT there's no monopod foot! I have the Sigma 105 f1.4 and it's so sharp AND there's a monopod foot which is VERY useful.
Viltrox does an APSC 75mm f1.2 at just 670g, equivalent to 112.5mm f1.8, and it's an amazing lens along with the 23mm f1.2. Much lighter and a touch wider -- could be a great alternative.
You can put a smile on my face even early in the morning. Thank you. But when you threw out the weight of that lens I immediately compared to the RF 28-70 f2. The heaviest lens I've ever rented. Almost the same. Sheesh.
I saw the 3D pop. Unfortunately, it was only in the mirrored railroad tracks reflection in your sunglasses. Otherwise, very sharp, like cut your fingers on broken glass sharp.
For the price it will be an excellent acquisition for my Z8 for night NYC photography. This for me will be excellent for landscapes based on a few review footage that i have seen.
Nice! That's one for the tripod on a geared head. The flat rendering allows for more post-processing shenanigans if you're into that, in a similar way to using neutral/flat LUTs in video pre-processing.
The Viltrox 1335mm finally came in today and out the box there was something I had to know... YES, it is shorter and heavier than the 70-200mm GMII. Looking forward to see how it shoots.
@@JoATTech did not update to the last firmware on my a7iv still on the 3.01 and and the autofocus it's working super fast and silent. I think samyang will release an update to the last firmware and will fix this issue
@@YUCA525 I bet, I wonder how long this would take them. I'm on v2.0 in my A7IV, noting special (expect banning 3rd party batteries) in newer firmwares :D
@@JoATTech I remember that after the first update the camera got much slower. That was an inconvenience. They don't add much value to the camera with these updates.
This makes me think this lens would be awesome at astrophotography, if maybe a bit overkill. No CA, no smuggy stars (I hate smuggy stars). At that price, it's competitive with similarly sized telescopes, and none of them would be at f/1.8 so it isn't even a fair comparison.
The old Samyang 135 f2 manual focus len is probably better and definitely cheaper. It's pretty renown in the astro community. It's an APO lens but they don't market it as such.
@@nicedward7544 I have a few Rokinon/Samyang lenses, and those are good too for the price. But the inclusion of autofocus means that you can control the camera through a computer and have it periodically refocus the lens throughout the night. It's a nice-to-have feature if you live somewhere with big temperature swings, and it might justify it's use for other things. Like I said this lens is overkill, but sometimes that's fun. But also, when you compare it against a telescope like the William Optics MiniCat 51 (180mm, f/3.5) I think you get way more out of this lens than you would out of that telescope. That's really what I'm comparing it against, and why I think this has a slight value proposition.
@@bernios3446 Agreed in some areas - the green edging will be worse than the new lenses - the 3D pop will be a ton better on the DC lenses - not sure how well the AF will respond to the Z series. The new 28-135 zoom looks interesting - video centric
they should have put a tripod mount on the lens I wonder what is your stance on 3d pop in things like pinhole type lenses and "soft focusing" lenses (like 'SMC Pentax-F 85mm F2.8 Soft')
I want the GFX version. It's not so overweight in that world, a world which needs more fast glass. I would rock this with fury getting shots I cannot currently get.
I wonder if it's as heavy as the Sigma 135 1.8 Art lens? That thing was massive on my Z8, but the photos were amazing. I want the Zeiss but it's manual focus and that is just too much work in 2024.
I also have the zv e-1 and shoot handheld video so I was debating if its too heavy to keep steady? I was thinking perhaps the samyang 135 being a lot lighter would be more convenient for hand held video shooting?, possibly with a gimbal as well.
You could test if it is projecting a wider image onto the sensor by holding it with the rear element toward a wall or table and shining a light through it. This should project onto the wall and you can gauge how big an image it's projecting. If it's just a sensor size image, then the thing is a miracle of modern engineering.
