      I'm using a can of lunch meat (if the DP cable flexes too much, I loose signal, should probably replace that sometime...). The can adds just enough elevation. The best one though was a 12 pack of soda that held my 32 inch TV and raised it above my 2x monitors. That's not bad, but then I was thirsty and drank 4 of the cans, so it was just the cardboard holding a TV up (lengthwise), a few small Earthquakes almost made it fall down, and I decided it was a bad idea...

    For those that don't already know, you can also overclock the i5 2500k on p67 boards. I got one to 4.4 ghz without touching the voltage on a gigabyte p67 mobo. Excellent performance for the price.

      Daniel Guerin I would like to see that aswell! A month ago he did a 1156 build with the exactly same mobo as I have. He also OCed but my mobo doesn't let me to change the voltage!!!! I am no expert on OC but I am sure that dynamiic Vcore is not the real Core Voltage.
      It's actually the exact same motherboard he is showing in this video. At 7:01

    • @magmagon5572
      @magmagon5572 6 лет назад

      Daniel Guerin 1366 is nehalem I believe, 1156 is clarkdale and lynnfield xeons, 1366 is like first gen core extremes

    • @petergriffingaming6115
      @petergriffingaming6115 6 лет назад

      You can OC without raising Vcore

    • @ps3customgamer
      @ps3customgamer 6 лет назад +1

      1366 supports cheap hex core Xeons with low heat output 32nm and will do 4ghz on the stock cooler and maxes out at 4.6ghz and gets a minor speed bump from triple channel memory, 1156 supports more expensive quad cores they run much hotter on 45nm and you need a really good cooler and max out at 4ghz but often lower.
      It really depends on how much you get the1156 or 1366 board for but I’d recommend a 2500k and p8p67 over these.

    I upgraded my old desktop computer from a Core i3 2120 to an i7 2600. I didn't want to buy some 2600k that someone had overclocked and run at 100° for 5 years... but I did some research and found that you CAN overclock the standard 2600. I took mine from the out of the box 3.4ghz, and I now run it at a steady 4.1. Huge improvement in performance.

      @PS4 Custom Gamer,
      I'll just probably sell the 1x MSI NVIDIA GT 630 GDDR3 2GB, 1x 8GB 2RX8 DDR3 @1250mHz RAM, 1x ATI AMD Radeon HD 6900 SERIES 2GB, 1x Intel Core i3 4130 3.40GHz, and maybe even the 1x Intel Core i5-3350P Quad-Core @3.10Ghz, because it wouldn't work on the motherboard, and get like a 1150 CPU, which would work on the motherboard, because I don't think it's worth to just get a 1155 motherboard to put a Quad-Core i5-3350P @3.10Ghz, which isn't even overclockable, has just 4 threads, and not doesn't even have an iGPU, which would be useful for troubleshooting.

      PS4 Custom Gamer yes it will die a bit faster, or incredibly fast if you push it way to far, but thing is, those of us that do it right will still have their processor working 6-7 years later or even my q6600 that still works just fine thats been running 4ghz for a decade, and it probably still got a few years ahead of it still. If you didnt know the ps4 pro is in the literal sense an overclocked ps4 with another gig of ram

      Weird, my i5 2500k has been at 5.0GHz since 2011, daily use.
      It can 100% push a 1070 in virtually all situations and even an overclocked 1070ti in many situations, and it's from 2011. Hahaha!!!

    For anyone new to it, looking to overclock, or overclocking a new cpu line for the 1st time; when they release a 'range' of cpus, they are based on the exact same core. Some have higher clocks than the others (& the higher price tag to go along with it) but, they are essentially the same core. If you are unsure of how much v core voltage for example, you should use with a raised clock frequency (without hours of stability checking apps like Prime & small adjustments), then just look at the retail specs for the cpu version at your speed or nearest to it. Same for any VTT voltage specs (should still be similar but you get the idea). If there's one in the range @3.4 Ghz with a v core of 1.35v & you have calculated your overclock to around 3454Mhz (3.45 Ghz) then stick it at the same 1.35v. Then go from there. Using a locked multiplier & pushing B-clock or fsb/ hyper transport you won't always get bang on figures. That's because you are multiplying it by the odd number you dialed in BIOS. You can fine tune later, see how much voltage you can get away without. Simple. They do pick the better performing cores at testing for better, higher priced or server cpus at times but, it's not that bad anymore & is something more to look for these days when they release a 'budget version'. Then they tend to use all the poorer cores, that they know will still perform perfectly well at the lower speeds they sell at but, many won't be able to catch the others when overclocking and to do so may need much more v core voltage than usual. It's unsustainable for business to use just those though for the budget ranges and there's less poorer examples produced these days anyway & so that's where the gamble comes in.They still use the rest if he good cores to meet a quota. You're likely to get as good a clocking budget chip or not. But they still try to get rid of the poorer performing cores that way, if they can. & they don't all reach the exact individual limit but, they are a lot closer these days, as production is generally better unless a certain newer smaller process runs into trouble. Always remember, at least with some of the older platforms the RAM speed overclocks along with the CPU, 'it's tied' & if you're running 1600 Mhz memory at 1650 Mhz + that's going to crap out 1st. So you will need to drop back to 1333 Mhz for example. & maybe again to 1066 Mhz later, if you are able to keep going.

Also, really hoping it well be of OK quality and actually work with the Engineering Sample CPU i have, its of C1 stepping tho, and they say on the page it will work with C1, C2 of "V1", but we shall see.

In 2013 I stopped using gameing PC but your videos makes me wanna build a gameing PC again. I whould recommend everyone to buy a nice PSU if you are going to overclock. Even some "good" PSU's can scream and burn. But PSU's are better now compared with 10-15 years ago.

    Of the older CPUs I recommend looking at the i7 4790K, it can unclock a lot and the chipset is modern enough that you can have motherboards with M.2, quick charge usb ports etc. You also have mobos with mATX and MINI-ITX, so its possible to build a compact 4 core/ht (8 threads) quite cheap. I run it with 1080 Ti and 32GB Corsair memory (the best ddr3 that was around at that time). Still I max out the 1080Ti in all games and with SSD storage the computer "flies" with some noctua cooler etc.

    Im a bit confused, when reccomending the X3440 you said you can use p55 or h55 motherboards. But aren't the H chipset boards from intel locked, which defeats the purpose of the "overclockable cpu's" video? Why wouldnt you have just reccomended the p55 boards? I've been wanting to do a used build for fun and after watching this i went ahead and bought the components but i didnt realize that the H55 board i bought wasn't overclockable except for the base clock method which isn't garunteed anyways. I should have double checked before purchasing but since intel used to have different chipsets (for example having P chipset) i didnt think about it and just went with what you said. Bummer.

    Just bought a 3930k for $78 (basically the same as the E5-1650 V2 at number 5 spot). Unfortunately I was planning to buy an ASUS X79 motherboard for $150 shipped but someone bought it while I was researching it, damn it! I bought an MSI X79 GD45 Plus board for $175 instead. Waiting for them to arrive... I have about 40 GBs of DDR3 RAM to try out in it. Gonna see if it will use it all, 8 sticks.
    As long as I can get a bit of an overclock I will be happy, I don't go for max OC, just an easy, stable OC and keep the voltage down.
