Just bought a 2000 Isuzu Rodeo and am doing the work on it myself. Bought it because I heard they were easier to work on. Have had fun so far! Lots to fix LOL!!!

Good video on this. Local auto shop wants $300/ axle to do this job. Can get shocks for this model for 80 bucks on both axles. Saves over 500 bucks. Nice work and appreciate it.

Hi Matt! Thanks for your video, I'm replacing the lower bushings on the front shocks, the only thing I would add is to torque the lower bolt after lowering the vehicle, this is to avoid tension on the lower rubber bushings and early wear.

Hey! Just got the same KYB shocks for my Honda Passport (re-branded Rodeo). I agree, horrible instructions with lame pictures. I agree with your order on washers and bushings. However, when using another nut as a "lock nut", you should always hold the bottom nut while tightening the locker nut against the lower one. However, it would be better if KYB included nylon locking nuts, huh?
Thanks for the vid, I was wondering what your thoughts are on the ride quality on and off road. It's been a year or so since you did it, so you may not even see this comment...but if you do, I'm sure we would all like to hear your thoughts on performance. Bilsteins weren't in my budget, but consensus was that KYB is about the next best option for good monotube unit for less money. Hope they were right!

+Doug Burgoyne Hey Doug, thanks for the comment, and great advice! As for the ride quality of the KYB shocks, I can't speak to the off-road performance as the Rodeo is my wife's daily driver and we never take it off the pavement. However, on the road, I would say I am pleased with the ride quality. The ride is still firm, which my wife probably doesn't care for too much, but the Rodeo is a pretty heavy vehicle for its overall size. I think the shocks do just fine...I'd much prefer a little bit firmer ride than a spongy one.

I do! I ended up have to get the transmission replaced about a year ago (~160,000 miles on the original), but it's running pretty darn well right now. I haven't driven it much recently since I've been working from home during the pandemic, but I try to get it out once every couple of weeks to keep it lubed up. Recently it seems to be developing a slight exhaust leak, and the engine doesn't have as much power as it did earlier in its life, but for a 19-year-old vehicle, I think it's in darn good shape.

@@mattpayne4087 I have the Isuzu axiom 2002, and I know it's exactly similar to this car, however whenever I accelerate the car gives me a strong jolt do you know what it is?

I’m going to do this on my sisters Honda Passport in a couple of days. Drive front end on Rhino ramps like I did when replacing the rears. I’m betting I can do the fronts without removing the tires just like I didn’t remove the tires for rear replacements.

    • @CPOhawk

So were you able to remove the shocks and replace without removing the tires? Was wondering if possible myself.

That's called a box end, opened end is the other end that's not boxed.
