    It was a very heartbreaking competition that made me and many other FS fans cry out of disappointment. However, Yuzuru's performance there was the only solid free skate. He was under a MASSIVE pressure but still was able to pull out a performance like that. Despite all the attempts to make Hanyu look like he is not that special anymore by reducing his GOEs and TEC scores, we all knew that he is FAR ahead of everyone and far superior to everyone. This free skate proves that he is a LEGEND, like the commentator, said "The otherworldly Yuzuru Hanyu" " He is NOT human I swear, He is half robot, half-alien"

      Saitama put an end to my fluffy fanyu phase. What ISU and JSF did at that competition was despicable. No other federation would ever treat their athletes much less the GOAT of figure skating like that. They sold everyone at that competition but especially Yuzu. Even the former French Fed head was shocked JSF let Yuzu get robbed at GPF Torino and did nothing, just like they did nothing at Saitama.

      @@ValHanyu can u explain what happened exactly?

    • @ValHanyu
      @ValHanyu  3 года назад +214

      oh my dear 😞 so much happened leading up, during and after that competition...
      I guess I can say it all started when Yuzuru destroyed the scoring system around this time, 5 years ago (ruclips.net/video/PwcqmkqcPRw/видео.html). ISU never liked that a non-American/non-Russian skater was the absolute champion, that only lost when he made a mistake and ISU boosted other skaters' scores.
      So when Yuzu with and after SEIMEI kept improving, ISU started to put up the plan to change the scoring system from +/- 3 GOE to +/- 5 GOE, and spread the narrative that it would be better for all skaters, especially the artistic and consistent ones like Yuzu. That scoring system would go live after PyeongChang. The possibility of an 11-point range gave the judges more room for subjectivity, as they went from fair (+1), good (+2), great (+3) to... 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.... And just what is the difference between a 2 and 3? It's the "playing with that difference" that decides who wins and loses.
      After Yuzu got injured in Rostelecom 2018, he spent 4 months away from any competition (ruclips.net/video/68jLyIqQCqY/видео.html). Meanwhile, his rivals were landing two-footed, under rotated, transition-less jumps and earning huge GOEs for that.... AND were having *gasp* their PCS scores going just as high, as if there were a connection between difficult jumps and high PCS.
      With that kind of "safety net", his rivals had little to worry about, they knew that they just needed to not fall on the ice to get positive and high GOE.
      Fast Forward to Saitama, March 2019.
      The Arena, especially on the Short Program day, was unusually warm (ruclips.net/video/68jLyIqQCqY/видео.html), too warm for figure skating, which was confirmed by many fans and athletes (like Mikhail Kolyada who commented it was so hot he was sweating). That plus the way the ice was layered, made a huge difference for edge jumps (ruclips.net/video/68jLyIqQCqY/видео.html) Yuzu's specialty AND his first quad on his Otonal SP.
      When it was Yuzu’s SP time, his first competition after 4 months away recovering from an injury as serious as the one before PC 2018, he popped his opening Quad Sal. By doing that, he received a score of ZERO, when he would normally have some 13 points for his Sal. After the SP he placed 3rd, and with some 13 points behind Chen. He lost the championship with that mistake, but also with the huge score Chen got. I won’t get into that, but for anyone with a little knowledge of figure skating there was no way such gap could happen without the heavy hand of biased judging.
      Then, the only thing Yuzu could do was come blasting in the Free Skate. That was what he did, becoming again the first man to break the 200/300 barrier, like he did when the +3 GOE system was on.
      Even with Yuzu's monster Free Skate, the judges had already chosen Chen-who also favors toe jumps, perfect for the ice condition in the SP and FS. The judges gave ridiculous GOE to Chen’s poor landings and flow, his no transitions and flawed spin technique (hello 90 degrees sit spin?).
      After Chen’s win in Saitama, things were never the same: ISU had their chosen one who could do whatever he wanted and would still receive monster scoring. It’s easy to skate and win with such a safety net…
      How do you crown a new king? You kill the current king. The rest, as they say, is history.
      p.s.: for reference, this comment is still true (turn CC on): ruclips.net/video/gxj7a3zDH4A/видео.html

    Maybe this wasn't a perfect performance of Yuzu, but it was the performance that introduced him to me. His passion was unbelievable, and because I have watched all of his programs since 2010 i can't compare him with anyone else. Nathan Chen is very good, no doubt, but Yuzuru is superior. He allows me to look into his heart, he makes me want to cry at the end of every performance, because I know he has given his soul in it. No-one else makes me feel this way yet. This kid is special, we have to admit it. May he has a blessed and happy life.

    This performance was a masterpiece on ice and incredibly difficult! Most people only look at the technical elements (jumps) in the programme to judge its difficulty. However, what should also be considered are the transitions in and out of a jump and the choreographic elements between technical skills. I honestly think that Origin is significantly more difficult than any 5 quad programme Nathan Chen has done, simply for the difficulty of the transitions. This should be mirrored in the scores, but no... 206 points for this masterpiece?!?! WHAT?!
    Also, those GOEs.... What is going on with judging in figure skating nowadays?! How did he get almost -2 GOE on his Quad Sal that was fully rotated, no hand touching the ice, and upper body still upright?! HOW?!

    I only found Yuzuru a couple of weeks back and I so wish I had found him sooner. We always used to watch figure skating ⛸ me and mum and my sister since the 1980’ through 90’s early 2000’s then all of a sudden terrestrial tv just doesn’t show sports like they used to and even when they do it’s badly advertised ❤and am so gutted because I absolutely love how this lad skates he’s just amazing xx

    • @ValHanyu
      @ValHanyu  Год назад +6

      Oh I had the same experience regarding watching FS with my mum, as a child/teenager, and then poof 💨 no more FS on TV. I guess we’re orfans of the US sponsorship disinterest in the sport with the rising of judging corruption (or maybe just the exposure of something that was always there), and the decreasing number of talented US skaters… you know, if there’s no one to cheer for, sponsors go away. But regardless of the money machine, there was one guy who came up to show us there absolutely can be a balance between the technical and the artistic side of FS. Or better yet, as Yuzu said in his brilliant interview for the Foreign Press Association he gave in Japan soon after becoming a double Olympic champion, “artistry is found upon absolute technical prowess”.
      Yuzuru is a once-in-a-lifetime kind of athlete, a genius we sometimes see on this planet that can both inspire us and amaze us. You found him, and that’s what matters. If you can, please watch his many interviews and documentaries (there’s plenty around and they’re subbed in English), you will be blown away by his mind, his character, dedication and fascinating personality. Let me know if you’d like some pointers and links, and welcome to the fandom!
      By the way, today Dec 2nd, he’ll be holding the second leg of his first ice show as a pro athlete. It’s a one-man-ice-show, something that has never been done. The last show, on the 5th, will be broadcast by JPN TV.

    • @ValHanyu
      @ValHanyu  Год назад +6

      Same 😔 it kills me that he had to endure that. My consolation is that when people bump onto his programs on RUclips, they'll have no idea of placements, they'll just enjoy what they see. They'll only know what a good or bad score was after they study the guide book from those specific days... and very very few will do... and if they do then they'll know... But what I meant is that in the end, Yuzuru was right: more than scores it's his performance that he wants to touch people's hearts. Mission accomplished.

Unlike other skaters just showing off their skills - so dry and dull, Hanyu skates into your heart. By watching him you can feel what he wants to express to the audience, a story, the happiness, the sadness, the excitement, or the chaos, etc. Only because of him I started to watch figure skating. If without him, bye bye ISU! Hope he would perform worldwide if he retires, as he said the name of his performance would be “Continues”. Looking forward to it so his fans over the world would be able to see him in person 🤩😍 金牌有很多,但让我知道花样滑冰可以如此精彩美好的,只有你,羽生结弦。继续向着你的梦想飞翔吧,少年!👍👍

      Yes 😞 that’s when ISU started building up their Olympic champion through fake scores and narratives 😒 What pains me is that they built up on every Yuzuru’s mistake and even some fanyus bought that that win was okay-ish because Yuzuru missed the Salchow. Whoever says that really doesn’t know anything about figure skating. There wasn’t in 2019 and there still isn’t a single skater even close to what Yuzuru is. Never in a million years a not-clean Yuzuru could lose to Nathan with his empty programs, poor skating skills, nonexistent transitions, 5-min jump prep and poor landings. Yuzuru es y será espectacular siempre, Nathan es bueno pero Yuzuru está por encima de todos, el me da emociones , me atrapa desde que entra al hielo, es apasionado, es simplemente único y nadie nadie me ha transportado en este deporte tan entregado y disciplinado como el. Esa medalla era para el, Saitama Arena lo pedía porque sabía que fue sorprendente su presentación , ese oro era de Yuzu

    This should be remembered as: _That time Yuzuru definitely won the gold yet they handed the medal to the American half assing his way to the podium since the 2018 Olympics_ (where he was the one supposed to win but couldn’t since he was not getting massively over-scored YET)

    Having watched this video, due to curiosity, watched the champion's. Given such interesting results, perhaps there's room for improvement in the judging system, or ethical/professionalism issue of the judging panels, or plainly part of the marketing strategies of the ISU. And all these concerns lead to a thorough reform of the giant institution!

    • @suez424
      @suez424 2 года назад +18

      That is why he wrote his undergraduate dissertation about the possibility of using sensors, AI system, and visualization to do some technical evaluation of jumps. He did not complain about the judging system at all, but he brought out the problem: judges need to do more than 100 decisions in 4 minutes and that is beyond human ability. Very nice dissertation, I read the part published by Waseda University

I'm so mad at them.. they even want yuzu to retire to let this legend sink..omg i hope the new season 2023_2024 they don 't try to play tricks pinch this with yuzu. Yuzu got into figure skating and got into the music and isuuu wanted to do skating ice acrobatics🙄🙄
