This was back when these guys could build a car at home and take it to the track. So many drivers owned teams for the Busch series. What a shame these kids today dont appreciate the work and money involved in building cars. That's why crashing your way to victory lane can happen now.
I was standing inside pits watching from T3 & 4 area. I drove past the new Superspeedway construction each week to race Legends cars in Shelbyville thinking the place didn’t have variable banking, was very low banked and it would potentially be a single file boring race track….
He certainly wasn't in the Busch Series but he did better in the Cup Series. That normally doesn't happen but when you are put with a Crew Chief who isn't afraid to be creative, good things happen.
When Jimmie introduced himself to Jeff Gordon at Daytona in 2001 I believe it was, that is when his fortunes changed and the rest is history. He signed a contract with HMS in 2001 while still finishing out his year with the Herzogs.
Nice to see this one back up... Wanted to watch it yesterday, but it was taken down
Audio issues were the problem.
Thanks for all the great races you've posted!

1:33:30 the big one Adam Petty involved
Mark Martin would win Martinsville the next day
Awesome short track. Better than Bristol IMO.
TNN didnt have the greatest coverage for their home race.
1:14:17 "Jimmie Johnson isn't a good driver"🙄
