Hendrick ran a modified Nascar Camaro at last year's 24 Hours of Le Mans as a Garage 56 entry. I'm not sure how much speed can be attributed to the modifications compared with the actual Nascar car, or if the long straights at Le Mans are the main factor, but that car's qualifying speed was 5 seconds faster than the GTE pole. But on the other hand, we have a direct comparison with IMSA at a few tracks: the IMSA GT3 lap record at the Indy Road Course is 7 seconds faster than the Cup Series lap record, and at Road America the GT3 record is 10 seconds faster.
Great track. As an Aussie watching because van Gisbergan is in Xfinity I can say the American road tracks and the racing on them are great. There’s too many ovals though. Some of the ovals are really good and it’s been cool learning about oval racing but some of the tracks are stupidly simple and boring and there’s just too many of them. In my opinion, the series would be a lot better with 5 less ovals and 5 more road courses, as well as the oval races being broken up more rather than one after the other. It’s been good getting in to nascar though. The cars sound amazing.
