I totally agree with you. "DM music was never the same after Violator". Absolutely. Their best albums - For me - are music for the masses and violator. I am 29. My mother is 55, yet she listens to DM too. Now I know there are 14 years old kids who listens to it... Gosh ^^

I can't believe that you wrote this 13 years ago & no one has replied to it...?! Anyway, I sincerely hope that you're still alive now, mon ami?! That was an interesting comment from you there...while I'd never deny that "Violator" is my all-time favourite DM album (gotta love the ironic names that they used for both "Violator" & Music for the Masses", eh?! I still remember reading an interview with Martin & Dave back in '89, when they explained how they'd tried to think of the most ludicrously heavy metal-sounding name they could for such a massively electronic album!!), I also LOVED "Songs of Faith & Devotion" & I definitely felt that their live tour for the latter of the two (which was described by "Q" magazines as "the most debauched rock tour ever"!!) was superior to those from the 'World Violation Tour' but I guess that it's very subjective & I only attended one show from each anyway...but once Alan departed at the conclusion of the 'Devotional Tour', their music was NEVER half as good, because he was clearly the freaking musical genius of the lot of them (anyone who has seen the legendary "101" movie/doco' would have seen how effortlessly he performed his magic, often while talking or doing something else while doing so!), seeing as though Martin's primarily the lyricist - as well as a gifted (usually backing) vocalist & multi-instrumental musician - Andy's little more than the nerdy book-keeper (& a rather second-rate singer & musician when compared to the others) & Dave was little more than a brilliant singer & amazing showman, although he became far more involved in the lyrical & musical side of things after Alan's departure - I guess he had to, really!
Anyway, while I didn't instantly love "SOFAD" the way that "Violator" grabbed me by the balls the very first time that I heard it, damn I grew to love that album very dearly & still do, to this very day...anyway, I'm wondering whether you saw any live performances from the 'Devotional Tour', perchance?
Damn, what a ridiculously verbose ramble this turned out to be, I'm SO freaking sorry, honestly!! Can you tell that I'm bored atm...?! Cheers & best wishes from a fellow "faithful & devoted" fan, campionissimo...Matt.
