I'm in highschool. There's a boy in my year level, who I don't have classes with. He doesn't have a lot of friends, he gets bullied a lot, and has a pretty rough life at home. I always say hi to him in the halls and talk to him when I see him, because I know what it's like to be hated by lots of people for no good reason. It's difficult to stand up to my friends when they call him creepy and weird behind his back, but I do try. This song is really inspiring for me

I was like James in high school. It's scary how much I can relate to this song. School was tough for me, but I've grown and forgiven the people who bullied me.
Yes, I was one of the people who was shown this in school. Kate was on the masked singer recently just before I found this song again and she seems so young here, but then 11 years later, she anonymously sang as the queen. She's come really far; I'm proud of her :)
This tune really hits home. Thankyou Kate Miller Heidke. I was legit the same James she sings of however played a guitar around the school & now evolved into Jimmy like many. Whenever this song plays it may take on a life of its own in me. Interesting imagery. Tough, bold, character building, personal & melodic. Great job making your name known through drum media so that one day i may hear this complex gift. Its rare to hear acknowledgement in a song. Well made film clip direction. He is just one Jame 🦅
When I was in primary school (I'm in high school now) our school showed us this song. At the time we nomen saying it sucked but I only recently realised we just didn't understand it because we were too immature. I'm in high school now and this song definitely affects how I look at the people who have few friends. 1 day I saw some kid getting pushed around by some known school bullies. I learn boxing, have been for 4 years, and I feel comfortable having a fight. I saw the kid was trying to stand up for himself but coudnt so I helped out. I walked up said leave him alone, they started a fight, but it was quickly over after I badly hurt 1 of them. I'm not friends with the kid I stood up for, but he, and pretty much everyone else looks at me differently now, and no one picks on that kid anymore. The morale of the story is stand up for the little guy. People will realise your a good guy, or girl, for doing so.
I've been looking for this fucking song for like 6 years can't believe I FOUND IT RIHHT AT THIS MOMENT ON A SATURDAY NIGHT AT 11:30 AT NIGHT EXACTLY OH MY GOD IM ACTUALLY HYSTERICAL

I only heard this 2 days ago for the first time. it made me cry .. I hated being bullied. it affected me for a VERY long time. my best friend became my best friend cause she beat me up and I was still nice to her. she stuck up for me after that even though she was in the very popular crowd and I was the one that would sit with long hair around me like a 'shield' as I slumped in my chair trying not to be noticed. when I was 12 or 13 I started to 'come out of my shell' when we moved to the country
I'm on a bit of a Kate Miller-Heidke binge at the moment and I remember first hearing this song in 2008. I'm blown away that it's been used in schools for anti-bullying education, what a legacy to have left with just one song! All of Kate's songs are so damn good!
I am loving this song. At first you think it's about a love story but then it turns into something more tragic and bone chilling. It tells a meaningful story with a great melody and she has a beautiful voice

I often cry whilst listening to this song. Because when I started high school I was caught in the crowd. I wanted to be cool. I was mean to people. I regret it so much. When I realized who I was becoming I stopped hanging out with that crowd. I started to be bullied by them. I spent my year being called fat, ugly, fish lips, an array of nasty names and being hit, pushed around, having things thrown at me, and hating myself. It’s led on to some horrible problems a few years later even after moving schools the words are always in my mind.

I haven't heard this song since it came out, and ever since I have been looking for. And looking for it. And al I could remember of it, was 'I'm sorry' I found it!
I love the essence of this song ♥ I think we can all relate. It's resonates strongly. The tune is also quite perfect, nostalgic in itself. Such an understated masterpiece. ♥
Love Kate! She went to the same school as my sister here in Brisbane and her dad was a former Deputy Principal of my school Corinda! This song is a fine piece of work and is a great message to people no matter what side of the bullying your on - the bully realizing the pain you may have caused and the regret you carry or the victim who can relate to the innocent Elton James in the video or the friend who watches on and does not help... The song is most definitely a modern classic that touches base in a occurring problem in schools these days.
When the soul is bad - there is nothing better to listen to Kate Miller, except in the kitchen to pretend to be the GREATEST cook of all times and peoples))))
I was a bit of a bully at school until I realised the kids I was bullying were just like me so I stuck up for them. This song brings a tear to the eye because it reminds me of them.
There was a guy at my school when I was in high school We'd ride side by side in the morning on our bicycles Never even spoken or faced each other But on the last hill we'd race each other When we reached the racks we'd each go our own way I wasn't in his classes, I didn't know his name When we finally got to speak he just stared at his feet And mumbled a sentence that ended with 'James' I was young and caught in the crowd I didn't know then what I know now I was dumb, and I was proud And I'm sorry If I could go back do it again I'd be someone you could call friend Please please believe that I'm sorry Well he was quite a big guy, kinda shy and quiet When the kids called him weird he didn't try to deny it Every lunchtime he'd spend walking by himself Round the boundary of the grounds til he heard the bell Well one day I found him, joined him on his walk We were silent for a while until we started to talk I told him my family were fighting in court He said his step-dad and him always fought We talked about music, he was into punk Told me all the bands that I liked were junk I said I'd never heard the songs the sex pistols sang I laughed back at him and then the bell rang I was young and caught in the crowd I didn't know then what I know now I was dumb, and I was proud And I'm sorry If I could go back do it again I'd be someone you could call friend Please please believe that I'm sorry It was after school in the afternoon The corridors were crowded as we came out of the rooms Three guys I knew pushed him into the cement Threw away his bag and said he had no friends He yelled that he did and he looked around Tried getting up but they pushed him on down That's when he saw me, called out my name And I turned my back, and just walked away Yeah I turned my back, and just walked away I was young and caught in the crowd I didn't know then what I know now I was dumb, and I was proud And I'm sorry If I could go back, do it again I'd be someone you could call friend Please please, believe that I'm sorry.
The song is a first-person account by a passive observer towards bullying and the regret they experience later in life. In speaking with The Feed's Patrick Abboud about the song's origins Kate revealed that “I was never the bully but I was definitely bullied and I also saw other people being bullied, and didn't have the courage to step in and then later regretted it.”
A reminder to all you people out there that have been or are being bullied. Stand Up For Yourself. I know it may be easier said than done, but it really is true that people on pick those who they view as weak. Stand up for yourself, and they will forget about you. I wasn't a pretty girl, I didn't know my father at the time, my mother did not care for me, I always had headlice, had a bowl cut, wore shoes with holes in them, stained shirts and much more. I was like the Kenny (Southpark) of my friends. So I know if it weren't for the fact that I had a tribe of brothers, 9 to be exact, I too would have been bullied. But this just goes to show that bullies are not tough at all.
I am in 5th grade and allready fell like I want to go crawl in a hole and die I get called fat, ugly, stupid, and some really bad cus words I feel so alone some times
Audra McNair That sucks! :( The people who call you those things are the ones with the problem. You're fine, sweetie. Take pride in not being one of them because they're all followers and you can be different and more interesting then them.
her: singing a serious sad song about real life things that actually happen Also her: smiling and swaying with the butterflies as if she's singing a happy song
This songs sounds like it was written about my youngest brother. He was always a bit of an outsider and had hardly any friends. Just found out yesterday that he had been suicidal in his last year of high school. I wish I had been nicer to him back then. He is a good guy and is much happier now which I am so thankful for. This song breaks my heart. I am terrified of my future children being bullied, or being bullies. I am going to try and raise them right.
8 years on and it still cuts me to the core. For people saying she went to an all girl high school, she was a popular kid etc etc. how's that any different from a Japanese born American chef who makes the best pizzas in the world? Or an Australian born African who builds the tallest building. It never matters where we come from. Only what we do.

For those of us who have always been very disappointed that KATE BUSH only ever had that one TRULY GREAT song, be disappointed no more!!! ... Queenslander "KATE MILLER Kate Bush HEIDKE" has one WUTHERING HEIGHTS song after another!!! ... A concert full of similarly mesmerizing songs in her songwriting treasure chest! ... She warbles, she gargles, and at times she sounded like there may well be a dentist chair on stage at her Cairns Esplanade Commonwealth Games Concert! ... Nevertheless, all combining to be one of the most unique female singer songwriters on Earth. Not to mention having written one of the best "school bullying" songs ever written. I had been aware of Kates existence ever since she first emerged as a newly discovered seedling. But now I'm an avid fan. Well done Kate and crew. And well done all of Cairns for this amazing Commonwealth Games Music Festival. No wonder there are a few billionaires moored in town at the moment. The word has obviously spread of Cairns quintessential uniqueness! ... Keep up the good work!

this is so sad....... makes me still tear up, i used to listen to this years and years ago....
I love the essence of this song ♥ I think we can all relate. It's resonates strongly. The tune is also quite perfect, nostalgic in itself. Such an understated masterpiece. ♥
Yes! !!
Yes I'm surprised it doesn't have more views!
I mean now I agree
Jess Doll *it, because otherwise you're saying "IT IS resonates strongly", which makes no sense.
KMH is an understated masterpiece herself - as are many of our Aussie talents!
Why 125 dislikes? She is a people, who say sorry. She is a role model for stop bullying. It too bad guys. She has my respect.
I agree❤️
+Jamareku I concur
she has my support to. I love this song so much
Her voice is fucking awful, that's why. The message is great, but her voice is Kate Bush level irritating.
i agree heavily but, grammar?
There was a guy at my school when I was in high school
We'd ride side by side in the morning on our bicycles
Never even spoken or faced each other
But on the last hill we'd race each other
When we reached the racks we'd each go our own way
I wasn't in his classes, I didn't know his name
When we finally got to speak he just stared at his feet
And mumbled a sentence that ended with 'James'
I was young and caught in the crowd
I didn't know then what I know now
I was dumb, and I was proud
And I'm sorry
If I could go back do it again
I'd be someone you could call friend
Please please believe that I'm sorry
Well he was quite a big guy, kinda shy and quiet
When the kids called him weird he didn't try to deny it
Every lunchtime he'd spend walking by himself
Round the boundary of the grounds til he heard the bell
Well one day I found him, joined him on his walk
We were silent for a while until we started to talk
I told him my family were fighting in court
He said his step-dad and him always fought
We talked about music, he was into punk
Told me all the bands that I liked were junk
I said I'd never heard the songs the sex pistols sang
I laughed back at him and then the bell rang
I was young and caught in the crowd
I didn't know then what I know now
I was dumb, and I was proud
And I'm sorry
If I could go back do it again
I'd be someone you could call friend
Please please believe that I'm sorry
It was after school in the afternoon
The corridors were crowded as we came out of the rooms
Three guys I knew pushed him into the cement
Threw away his bag and said he had no friends
He yelled that he did and he looked around
Tried getting up but they pushed him on down
That's when he saw me, called out my name
And I turned my back, and just walked away
Yeah I turned my back, and just walked away
I was young and caught in the crowd
I didn't know then what I know now
I was dumb, and I was proud
And I'm sorry
If I could go back, do it again
I'd be someone you could call friend
Please please, believe that I'm sorry.
Ooh thanks now i can sing along
This makes me cry every time I listen to it😭😭
The song is a first-person account by a passive observer towards bullying and the regret they experience later in life. In speaking with The Feed's Patrick Abboud about the song's origins Kate revealed that “I was never the bully but I was definitely bullied and I also saw other people being bullied, and didn't have the courage to step in and then later regretted it.”
🦧
I was shown this In school and I love it
13 years...I was only 7 years old when this came out, I adore this song so much😢
2:50 When you step on a piece of lego
truueeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
hahahahahaha
Take pride in not being one of them because they're all followers and you can be different and more interesting then them.
her: singing a serious sad song about real life things that actually happen
Also her: smiling and swaying with the butterflies as if she's singing a happy song
What a unique talent this girl is!
I am going to try and raise them right.
love this song very inspirational and I can reflect on things while listening to this beautiful song

i love this song!!!!! better sing this on tour in sydney!!! looking forward to seeing you
8 years on and it still cuts me to the core.
For people saying she went to an all girl high school, she was a popular kid etc etc. how's that any different from a Japanese born American chef who makes the best pizzas in the world? Or an Australian born African who builds the tallest building. It never matters where we come from. Only what we do.
I WAS SHOWN THIS AT SCHOOL!
OMG anyone else
👇🏻
yessss

@@thebell036wweird you replied to my comment from 13 years ago, but I don't remember this song or my comment.... And right now I am definitely not feeling this song haha
Where I live in South Florida, this song has never been on the radio I don't think, only on Muzak(over the P.A. system in restaurants and stores).
damn ur old now
I can’t wait to go back to school and see somebody by them selves and sit with them.
I don’t know why this eye opening song isn’t played world wide on all media outlets .. Radio , TV , Movie theatres , Screamed from the rooftops .. Over and over and over … 💔💔💔💔
Why has this only got a million views this song is so great and has such a nice message.❤️😄
Also because she was the one who left someone behind and she wasn't the victim❤️
what is the message?
I love her voice.
This was my old Xbox friends favourite song. Just remembered it and wanted to find it again. Thank you Kate miller for all the singing memories I made with him. Forever in my heart. ❤️
She's so pretty! Her voice is so beautiful!
She made this video because she didnt realise when she was younger she thought it wouldnt hurt his feelings dont bully because you might not care about it then but you will look back when your older AND YOU CANT CHANGE IT luv u kate miller 😘❤
Such an important message, makes me cry when I think of Dolly Everett. I hope her bullies hear this song and feel some remorse for what they did
