The audience engagement with this song gives me goosebumps. She can’t see them through the lights, everyone is staring at the ceiling to see her and yet she feels like she’s making eye contact with every single person in the room. EVERYTHING about this performance is perfection.
I was at the audience and actually you could see her very well in front of you if you were on the sitting area because that area was already much higher than the stage. You could see her way better than any other show on the final, and I think she got close enough during the spinning part that she was able to go through the lights and actually see the people. It isn't seen in the video but in real life it's without the space effects and it looks so awesome because she comes super close to the audience at the seats, it felt like she was right in your face and you could almost touch her even though she was far. It was a very magical experience, the video version is like 5% of how amazing it was to watch this in real life, it had the most audience engagement in the whole show. But for the people who were on the standing area super close to the stage, yeah they had to look up, but they were only a very small part of the whole audience.
9th place is criminally low for such an amazing performance. Please people don't forget her.
Skyjohn I know!!!
This song may have lost in 2019 but I suspect it will hang around for many years. The production is intense. The style is unique. The genre is epic. It has all the properties of a cult following, it was not for mass consumption.

But Dami Im???
Dami Im was amazing
The best Australian's entry so far. I really like the song. It's a grower and I wanted it to win!
The moment we started doing Eurovision I knew we had to send Kate - she fits without trying. Nice thing is the Australian public picked her!
Australia became important with Dami Im by the way 😉
Probably one of the best stagings we’ve ever seen in Eurovision
Kate is an effing legend. I don't know how many times I've watched this. Let's talk about it:
1) the song first - it may be polarising, but it has enormous emotional range as well as vocal range. The lyrics are brief but they discuss the journey out of depression, triggered by her own realisations about post-natal depression after the first of her son. She and her husband Keir have refined that down to simple words describing fundamental ideas (as befits Eurovision), emphasising the journey back to life and out into space, and married that to a soaring lift-off half-way through the song, and a joyful, transcendent ending. There are so many musical ideas crammed in here, right down to the careful construction of the harmonies, that it does need repetition to 'get' this song - although clearly the sing-a-long crowd at the venue didn't have to hear it too many times to latch onto the chorus.
2) the delivery. It's not just that it's pitch perfect, or close as, and delivered on top of a long pole. It's her perfect control. If you watch some of the more informed reaction videos, you'll see the various 'vocal coaches' raving about the movement between her head voice and her street voice, but it's more than that. Her microphone technique is superb. Her facial expressions. Her breathing. She's not just a classically trained pop/alternative singer on a stick, she's a real professional. Close your eyes, forget the staging, and listen.
3) the staging. Have you ever seen something so breathtakingly bold? At the national final in Australia, it blew us away, even though it was a static presentation. Here, on bendy poles that she had to learn to perform on to a level of confidence where she could sing and get the choreography right without compromise, the song takes off and blasts us to space.
There are plenty of 'why didn't she win? comments here. Forget them. The winner was a great song, and so was Norway's. It's not *ever* about who gets the most points, it's about what you bring into the world to make it a better place. Kate's song and performance were on another level, and will be remembered in a different way, which is why she won the artistic prize. Once seen, never forgotten. Legend, Kate, absolute effing legend.
she has amazing vocals and pitch. She handles herself so eloquently up there on the pole. I'll admit, the first time I heard this song I didn't like it, but then I gave it a a few more shots and now I'm obsessed! There is so much to like about this song! I then listened to the Acoustic version and WOW. All her other songs are magnificent.
Love love
The moment it was announced we''d get to compete I always hoped that someone would be smart enough to say hey Kate and Keir show us what you've got. I have loved her music for a long time (and Keirs slightly longer - Space you Cannot touch is pretty much the best love song ever written) this was so brilliant and as a mum who had that demon - so important. The winner was great Norway was spectacular but this was the moment having Australia there made sense. PS still want to see Electric Fields do this.
It doesn't really matter about her place. She made her mark and she's still legendary 2 years after
She’s created a new music genre basically, I like to call it popera, Pop and Opera jammed into one.
@Shoahshana Goldberg-Shekelstein Said by a random viewer at home who can't sing.
3 years later - still the best thing Australia has sent. That's what we want! No playing safe, going all in with something as unique as this
Thanks
I also love Dami Im's song though. But nothing beats this staging for Zero gravity. The best in history of ESC
Ja, auf jeden Fall ! Gruß aus Germany
Nope, Dami remains unchallenged but this was not that far behind.

Australia is really living the ESC. Way more than the UK, Germany and others. They really deserve their spot in the contest!
UK has been disappointing for a very long time now... Don't think they really take it seriously :) Hopefully, they will up their game because they can do so much better!
And this was the result of oridinary Australian Eurovision fans being able to vote. To be honest the moment it was announced that we'd be in Eurovision most of us though she was the logical choice.
@karmasdoor pitty you don't get to host it in Australia. I was in Sydney when Conchita won, sadly couldn't go to an ESC party that night cause I was flying out to Germany the next day but I was surprised to see how big the ESC is in Australia. And Conchita was all over the news even before she won. Was so happy for you guys that you got in the contest and now I always want you to win.If I could chose I'd love to see Australia hosting the ESC in Georgia...my two favorite countries. Probably not gonna happen as UK/Ireleand and central Europe have the better infrastructure but anyways 😂

@@AaAa-ot5tw I'm sorry, but The Netherlands was just a simple, BORING love song. The performance was also NOTHING SPECIAL,just a BORING blue background, and a man sitting on a chair,PRETENDING to play the piano. And literally that won.I am not saying that Duncan is not talented, but I literally fell asleep during that performance. The Netherlands song is just SIMPLE and BORING,and nothing YOU say will EVER change that. What do you know about high quality music and performance? The saddest thing is,that people like you are allowed to vote.
Ps:If Kate is a frozen doll rip-off,Duncan is a cheap Sam Smith rip-off.
Ammonium Chloride(NH4Cl) PREACH 🙏🙏🙏
As an Australian, I feel so proud of Kate and her performance. She was magnificent! I also think the Netherlands thoroughly deserved to win.
Same!
@Trailers And Movieclips Yes I would
Same
@Trailers And Movieclips Me i can be french jury if you want.
netherlands was so bad
In all the years I've been watching Eurovision I've never seen anything like this. This staging was spectacular & will be remembered for many years to come. Way To Go Australia.
staging was great the song was not pop opera never does well.
They forgot it was song contest.
Stephen Podesta Your obsession with Dami is so strong that you continue to knock your own contestants. D'you not see anything unhealthy in that?
@@sovereignspirit7640 i actually did not mention KMH FYI pop opera does never do well and FYI i never mentioned Dami im.
@@sav0001 i actually did not mention KMH FYI pop opera does never do well and FYI i never mentioned Dami im.
Stephen Podesta You don't need to mention Dami. Three years of criticizing your contestants spells an obsession with Dami that's obviously going to continue. You are as boring as you are predictable
One of the few ESC performances that will never be forgotten
She was robbed, I genuinely think she should have won. Don't get me wrong, I thought Duncan Laurence's performance was beautiful but I just don't think anything can compare to this.
Much love from England x
England was robbed too, should have scored way higher. Greetings from Australia.
I'm not kidding: This performance will be featured every time anyone does a retrospective on the top remarkable eurovision entries. It's a born classic: Both the song and the performance. Thank you, Australia!
It's definetely great performance, but underrated! Greetings from Russia!
i think the music is not done to perfect
Вероника Синицина I sent greetings from Russia to! 😁
We didn't get any points from Russia.
But sadly we didn't give any to you guys either :-(
Good luck next year :-)
@@НАСТОЯЩИЙЧЕЛОВЕК-ю8е i hope you'll try to sing this way.
This is peak Aussie Eurovision, nothing will top this. But it's also peak Eurovision. Full stop.
Such a great performance I thought it will be at least 2nd or 3rd, or at least top 5. But 9th??? :(
Estoy contigo
Estoy contigo tambien!
The winner ❤️❤️ ❤️ No matter what will happen after an hour , she is the winner tonight !!!
Yes! 🥇🇦🇺✔️💚
Kiril Petrov I would vote for her if i could
Even though she lost, I still think so too!
Are u from Bulgaria? Btw Australia is 9th but im not sad 💚🥇🇦🇺
Netherlands won ):
0:42 Crowd singing along with her gives shivers down my bone. I can't even begin to imagine how incredible she would've felt then. Best performance and song. Deserve all the love it gets and much much more really.
One in a million performances.....
this was EXCELLENT and it deserved AT LEAST top 3! well done, you were robbed!
I just wanted to say that she was trying to describe the feeling of getting rid of a depression because I think many people don't know that and for me it makes this song even more special
Well, sometimes I felt like I was in zero gravity when taking xanax xD
This song and performance blew me away tonight! 9th place is a great result for Australia, but I still wish they would've scored higher or even won. This will forever be an iconic, defining moment for Eurovision.
The song that should have won…pure Eurovision class!
Even though I’m Dutch, she was my winner. The song and performance are the essence of Eurovision.
Kate was echt 100 procent de winnaar voor mij!
She deserved to win!!! This was utter perfection!!! ❤️ from Ireland 🇮🇪
AUSSIE AUSSIE AUSSIE! You're our winner Kate! Love from AUSTRALIA 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
Aussie Atheist Oi OI OI.... she deserves to win Eurovision but the show must go on.... so sad for Kate Miller-Heidke only placed 9th and she became the most robbed artist this 2019 Eurovision song contest....
I love that you can hear the smile in her voice
The best song, for me it’s a winner. So many emotions, I feel the purest joy just by listening to this.
9th? Seriously? This song is so creative with an amazing voice and presentation. It is such a shame that opera singers "have" to compete with ... mortals and be judged by musicless fans in a competition which is clearly a joke. She should have occupied the first 3 places :-) and then start from the 4th place for the rest!
Best comment ever 👏👏👏
I want to live in another dimension where Kate wins the competition. Her song is the best song of the night plus her performance beats everyone else's!!!!
I still can't believe how Italy had a higher place with a guy that gives me stupidity vibes.
Yes! This performance mops the floor with the guy pretending to sing at the fake piano, who also won
Georgy Papadopoulos You have reason
0:39 Imagine being Kate and listening to every soul there singing with her "Ze-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-ro Gra-a-a-a-a-a-avity" That's so thrilling
