I wish John Carpenter and Debra Hill knew just how scared of Halloween my grandpa is, to this day. I believe he was a teen when he saw it for the first time. 42 or so years later, he still won't watch it, but he says when he turns 70 and retires so he doesn't have to work in a building at night by himself, he'll watch all of them with me. We'll see.
I love any John Carpenter commentary, always so informative and fun, his best ones were with Kurt Russell, they sound like such best friends. I do hope and wish, that in the future, someone decides to release a new home-video edition of this film, but one that include not only this comm. from JC, JLC and Debra Hill, but also the comm. from JC and JLC from 2013, that'd be nice to have both on one disc.
Interesting he admits Myers was based on the Gunslinger from Westworld. That makes Westworld the primary source of the entire slasher genre, the Terminator and Jurassic Park. It's the perfect bridge between the western action genre which died out and the horror and sci-fi genres which replaced them.
Thank you so much for uploading this. This is one of my all time favorite movies and Carpenter is a huge inspiration for me. And Debra Hill is a treasure.
Thanks for all the great uploads, man! I have a request for some more John Carpenter and Kevin Smith commentaries: The Fog, Ghosts of Mars, The Ward and Chasing Amy.
It's sad that John and Deborah (who were obviously deeply find of each other) didn't have little Carpenters as the next generation would be making some brilliant films..somethings are not meant to be, sadly
It's three people recorded separately (John, Debra, and Jamie Lee). Quite a few disc commentary tracks are a pastiche-- with director recording thoughts in one place, writer in another, actor elsewhere, etc. Then all the parts are stitched together. Not a rare thing. If they're all together in one room for the recording session, that's good too in its way but _this_ way, nobody talks over the other, nobody gets to interrupt, there's less laughing and going off subject etc. Both have their benefits and drawbacks.
Looking forward to Halloween 🎃 2018. The actors say (taken from Jamie Leigh Curtis and the original Michael Myers: Nick Castle, so you know I’m not trying to put words in anybody’s mouth) said that the new movie will be almost as close to the 1978 version.
That still doesn’t make sense, I know the spelling to avoid copyright but John carpenters original music is it it. Pretty sure that copyrights the shit out of it, RUclips is retarded. Or unless the OP uploaded it, got flagged and doesn’t give a shit, then would make sense. Just saying

So did he watch them with you yet??
Its so cool how they made such an iconic mask/look to the shape. I love that the mask looks different in every shot.
"The music" is why I'm such a fan of Carpenter's movies to begin with. It is a HUGE part of the appeal.

Can you post the commentary for Prom Night (1980)? Thanks
Did they not record this commentary together? It sounds like two commentaries spliced together
