My God, it shocks me as to how old this looks... 1988 doesn't seem all that long in my mind, but then I see something like this TV special from this time period, can't help but to take notice of how ancient it looks... makes me feel so OLD!!! Thanks for posting this nostalgic video- it's like looking back in time!! Look how fuzzy the VHS picture is- ya'll remember the days when a VCR was the baddest ass thing you could own and how exciting it was that we could actually rent movies and watch them RIGHT IN OUR HOUSE, not having to wait years for it to come on network TV?? Or we could tape a show and watch it when we got home... It would be hard for you kids to understand how exciting it was to have those capabilities because now-a-days everything is digital streaming, but my Lord that was great wasn't it? My first VCR I think I bought right around 86 or 87, paid about 450 dollars for it, today I can get one at the thrift store for 50 cents!!!
Oh yes renting movies was the best time, now I just watch a movie and almost skip it... xD We were limited at that time, and damn it was a better time. now with internet, everybody is a Zombie
This is bad quality for 1988 though. Most tv shows didn’t look this bad back then. The vhs tape probably recorded this in EP mode and/or the tape quality degraded over time.
UNLIKE YOU folks, I first knew Pat Morita as a stand-up comic playing both TV shows and doing local stand-up here in the SF Bay Area. I was shocked to see him in the Karate Kid talking with an accent.
You're right. I didn't know Pat Morita as a stand up comedian until after Karate Kid. Of course, I wasn't born until after the movie, but still. You get a cookie!
wow his English was excellent man after seeing the karate kid series films he starred in I thought he would be pretty bad with English cause he was old but wow he sure made a goof star in Hollywood and a great standup comedian

They started to filming Karate Kid 3, before it released in 1989.
I said it before and I say it again. Some of the very best actors and actresses are stand up comedians.
Mr.miyagi R.I.P Legend
For those who were unaware of his standup
Would be great if Ralph Macchio was there and said “ah Mr. Morita, You much humah”
love YOU PAT...R.I.P.
It's so hard to think of him as not being Mr. Miyagi
The accent is weird lol
Arnold more so
Its like hearing Jackie chan in a British accent
I knew his as Arnold mostly
Its so weird to hear him without his thick accent lol RIP!
