Yeah, I solved that mystery back in '88 when I first saw them live on the RamonesMania tour. He had just rejoined shortly before, and while I was astonished at his speed, it is absolutely easier that way. Good video though, very accurate to his setup and style.

It's probably the fact that it's easier to get the fingers under the stick in that position, which is how he plays so fast.

Cara eu ouvi uma história que ele regravou a bateria desse show em estúdio!
Parece ser um fato realmente! No LocoLive Mark regravou toda a batéra novamente no estúdio e mixaram o CD com essa gravação! É perceptível como a bateria nesse CD tem o volume 🎚️ mais elevado em comparação com os instrumentos. E em comparação a outros trabalhos da banda! *(acho que ele quis elevar sua alto estima, dando um ganho a mais na batéra 😅)
Na verdade ele que acompanhou a mixagem e "destacou" a bateria dele. 😂

Still don’t understand the need for the closed 2nd hat? Surely it’s all possible with one hat ?
I don’t get neither why having a 2nd closed HH turn it easier 🤷♂️ The difficulty to play it at this speed is the same, with or without a 2nd HH I guess 😂😂
I think, just speculation, the advantages are being closer to that crash right next to the second hi hat and also the arm and elbow release you feel when switching between those two hi hats (inestead of staying constantly stationary). Again, just guessing here.

Both. It's two different pairs of hats, at two different tightnesses and two different sounds. If you gotta travel from a to b, and there is a rest stop in between, it makes things easier. At least for drums.and than there's also the consistency of your hi hat stand and foot while trying to pull those parts off

the angle is a lot easier on your elbow/forearm, plus when you hit them at that angle you get a bit better rebound as well
