Hi, I pack each day’s clothes in gallon zip lock baggie and sit on it to force out the air. It works like expensive compression cube, all are the same size for easy packing, and dirty clothes go back in the baggie to keep carry-on smelling nice

The Hefty 2.5 gallon bags are also amazing for compression packing, especially for bulkier items. The opening is wide and easy to fill, and can be pliable enough when filled to squish in tighter places. Happy travels.

Yes me too. Began doing this in 2004 after each holiday created a huge wash pile for me to wash everything, even if we didnt wear it. I needed a solution so I began using ziploc bags about a4 size or bigger, and put in one day of clothes per bag and sit on it to seal air tight. When i get home, I dont have to wash whatever was never worn as it is still sealed up tight in the ziplock. Muliply by 4 people and that saves me a lot of washing.

Here’s a packing hack for your rain jacket. Lay it out flat, fold everything towards the middle. Roll from the bottom all the way up to the hood, then tuck into the hood and cinch it down and tie it with the strings. It makes a small ball and it can fit into small spaces.

I traveled 5 days a week for for 20 years in one 22" carry on. All clothes were wrinkle free plus I carried a small bottle of wrinkle free spray just in case and usually 2 pairs of shoes plus wha I was wearing. I never wore the same thing more than one day. Its all about how you fold. My makeup was simple and always neutral to go will anything. People tend to carry too much becaus they dont plan their outfits out in advance for daily wear. I also packed friday on bottom Tuesday on top.

I think this is key - planning outfits to match your activities. So you’re not just packing all your favourite clothes. It’s a little more work because it means being more mindful of your outfits but it’s worth it. It eliminates packing clothes for “just in case” and “I want options.” I also wear jeans, skirts and shorts more than once and ensure that tops can go with more than one bottom. Any top that can only be worn with one bottom stays at home. I have also found that having a capsule wardrobe makes it easier to choose outfits because you already know what goes with what. Just my thoughts.

If they need to open my carry on, to search it, all is in one place. In case I need to gate check it, I can pull the lunch box and put it in my mini backpack.

@@ThatBrickChic well, I also planned for that…Did you know that I had my child’s iPad attached to a lanyard, attached to my iphone and to my galaxy tab? There’s a loop you can buy from Amazon that makes your phone and tablet connect to a lanyard. If someone tried to grab it. They take the entire lot.
I did that for the lunch box too. I had a lanyard attached to the bag.
I learned my lesson when someone stole my moms camera in Ireland full of family pictures. From then on, I use lanyards to attach valuable items to bigger items. It’s so obvious when’s someone grabs one item.

@Nan-59 I am a big guy so this may be overkill for you...I have the Swedish made Walkstool (Amazon) it is super heavy duty, light enough and comes with a lite weight carry satchel. It comes in several sizes. I used mine today while walking the zoo. It has been around the world, including my last two trips, India and Argentina. It will be with me on my upcoming trip throughout Ireland. Very solid and stable. Often I don't used it, but it gives me the confidence to explore knowing I can always take a break! When I first bought it I had a minor issue with the satchel and with one call, a new satchel was immediately sent to me. I HAVE NO AFFILIATION WITH THE COMPANY. Hi Laurie, I’ve found that when using those compression cubes that don’t open all the way (like the ones you use), it’s easier for me to fold and stack everything that’s going to go into the cube, THEN put it in the cube all at one time, rather than one piece at a time. This helps to prevent extra wrinkles as you are putting each individual piece in a 3/4 opening. Hope that makes sense. Thanks for another video with great ideas!

Another tip I have besides putting an outfit in your carry-on, my husband and I will put one outfit in a compression cube and put it in each other’s bag that we check. That way if we get someplace and we don’t have our bag we have the one outfit in our carry-on plus the second outfit in whichever bag didn’t get lost. Giving us three outfits to wear until they find and get our bag to us. This also would give us time to send an outfit out to be cleaned. On a trip to Israel, my best friend, her husband, and her son, all lost their bags for three days.

Buy cheap tees in a discount store at destination. Everywhere has the same type of el cheapo stores.
Put them in a thrift bin at the end of the trip.
      Bingo.

I love packing cubes and they actually help me take less! I also like to pack my tops folded and on top of one another because once I arrive at my hotel, I just put the packing cubes in the drawer with the compression zipper unzipped if it has one. So easy to find the top I want still relatively wrinkle free. As I empty a packing cube, that cube is where I put my dirty clothes so they can get compressed for the trip home which makes unpacking at home so much easier too, that bag goes right to the laundry. Thanks as always for your excellent travel tips!

I do the same BUT I carry 2 laundry bags as well with me - one big for shirts and the likes and second for socks and underwear. If the cloths are in similar colors, they go straight to the washer, otherwise I do a quick rearrangement :)
As cloths become dirty, I don't put them back in the cube. So cube's volume decreases and the laundry bag's increases. Hope this makes sense :)

    • @evelynwald9132
      @evelynwald9132 11 месяцев назад +1

@@AquariumRandomVideo2 it absolutely makes sense. The reason I use the packing cubes for dirty clothes is that it’s easier to compress. My luggage is tightly packed before I leave so it’s just easier for me to repack using the compression cubes for the trip back home. Lol, I don’t have very much room for new things purchased during the trip (which is probably a good thing).

I 'm going to travel for the 1st time with only a carry on. I was having a hard time getting everything to fit with compression cubes. So I found slim packing cubes from Amazon that worked perfect. They are the Amazon Basic 4 pc packing travel organizer cubes set slim. They fit perfectly in between the handle spaces in the bottom of the luggage (I have a soft sided case that only has space to pack on one side.) I lie 3 of them flat on the bottom and put the 4th one at the top of them. Then I put my larger compression cube for bulkier items on top.

I also pack often with compression cubes. If we are traveling where we change locations everyday I pack the clothes as I will be wearing them…so like Monday on my list I have denim with blue top…blue top goes on top of the cube and I only have to open the cube slightly to take the blue top out. If we stay in the same location like cruise ship or Airbnb then I also pack a couple of wire hangers like the ones you get from the dry cleaner and I double or triple hang the tops on the hangers in the order that I will be wearing them…(they never have enough hangers and I always leave the ones I bring). My favorite packing cube is the tube one. I have a waterproof tube that I keep in my backpack and it has saved my phone and spare battery many times in pouring rain.

I also use compression cubes. Often times I will not compress them at the beginning of my trip because that allows me to have some room for souvenirs later on. I will also move stuff around and consolidate clean clothes some and dirty clothes in the now empty ones so that it helps to keep my suitcase clean. If the trip I am on has more than one hotel stay I will group days that I am staying in that hotel together in one or more compression cubes. That way I only have to get out those cubes when we get to the hotel. I will also consider when choosing outfits if I’m going to need to utilize the hotels laundry service by trying to wear the items that I feel comfortable sending out to be cleaned early in the trip so that when we get to the hotel that I need to do laundry at I can send those out and have clean clothes back in a day. One tip is to verify what days hotel you’re staying in does laundry. We almost got in trouble on our last trip because we do not realize that they did not do laundry on the weekends. Always pack a tiny sink pack of tide or laundry detergent of your choice for those emergency moments when you can’t send your laundry out. I also try to pack items that are quick drying in case I have to do laundry myself in a sink. You can either use the hotel clean towel to wring your clothes out or if you have room and have packed a quick drying towel, you can use that. That will help speed up the drying time.

Also the 3-3-3 packing method for clothes. 3 shirts- 3 over shirts -3 pants. You can wear the shirts by themselves or layer. Makes several outfits .

same concern for using compression cubes. those would cause me to pack more, and subsequently the weight of the carryon would go over international limits. philippines has particularly strict carryon limits, both in size and weight

Temu sells a bag that you can fill with clothing and put around your neck or hang on your carryon as a travel pillow. Just read of someone who emptied a travel pillow, added velcro and stuffs it with clothing.

In October 2023, visited Greece x2 weeks. For the 1st time, I used packing cubes. Once the cubes were zipped, I placed a wide piece of tape labeling their contents. It helped me to be organized & prevented unzipping all the cubes looking for a certain item. 😊

    Hi Laurie,
I use the Compass Rose cubes because they are rectangle and fit nicely in a carryon or suitcase. I 11:30 bought them on Amazon. I love them. I also have another set of compression cubes. I love your videos and have learned a lot from you. I also use a regular (smaller compression bag) for laundry.

That tube cube is the perfect size for under clothes. We are gearing up for a 17 day trip carry on only......I'm wondering about tucking in socks and underwear in all the nooks and crannies in the suitcase instead of one big cube.....then I will insert an empty cube to put them in once we board the ship so that they stay together in the cube once unpacked. We shall see how it comes together when we pack. Thanks for the videos. I always look forward to them.

I have an out of date PacSafe jacket with pockets large enough to carry small tablets, and another vest (can't remember the brand) that has an interior pocket to carry a 10in iPad. I load that jacket up when I get on the plane. Then I have my crossbody sling, if allowed, personal backpack and rolling carry on. Scottevest also has clothes with hidden pockets. I used to have that bag that hung on the seatback pocket, but that just became one more bag to carry. Small bonus, I can still wear the jacket with my stuff if I ever have to abandon the plan in an emergency.

I have been using packing compression bags for years. Have two sets. Depending on location I’m traveling to in time of year. I don’t always use the same size bag for different items. I’ve taken to getting a piece of masking tape, putting it across the top of the bag on both sides with a description of what’s in the bag. When it comes to smaller bags that is especially helpful.. thanks for all your tips

I got the smaller set (3pieces 1 lg 2 small) of Landscape printed compression bags and wish I would have got the larger set. I ended up ordering the small set in white. The plain color sets do not open all the way like a book (the printed ones do) They work just the same, but it seems I can get things folded better in the book style ones! I'll have to try using the smaller ones for my next trip!

Love seeing Aulie and Nathan. Have you watched any of my shorts with Callie, my nutcase kitty? I like using cubes, but my hubby still argues that it doesn’t matter. Suitcase is a particular size to fit certain amount to items. Typical man-logic🤪. Of course he always end up asking me for help while packing.

I have the same colorful compression cubes and they work well for me, either by rolling my clothes or folding them as you are showing here. On my current trip I ditched my usual backpack, and instead am using a shoulder bag that has a zippered shoe compartment across the bottom of the bag. We are snorkeling and the space fits well for my water shoes, mask and snorkel.

Even though I have Tsa Precheck, I still pack my liquids bag in my personal item bag. there have been times when I have gotten to the airport and the Tsa Precheck line isn’t open. Then I’m required to go through the regular line. It’s easier if my liquids bag is already in my personal item bag rather than opening up my suitcase.

I know it's not glamerous - I pack items in zip freezer bags - this way I can squeeze out the air right out the end. Works so much better than packing cubes and save a lot more space. the bags also contain the stink if I can't wash clothes before coming home.
