My very first trip to Europe with a friend, 18 years old, I took all the wrong things, including heavy luggage, thin shoes, wrinkling clothes. I literally sent them home the first week, bought a small bag, rubber soled shoes, and learned to travel with two colors, wrinkle free light weight clothes and only carry-ons. I rarely deviate. I hate checking a bag and have found a way to make multiple permutations with the items I can compress into that small bag and personal bag. You have suggested some great items to take. Now I will wear my trench and walking shoes, just use my iPhone camera, simplify my hair, leave the dryer at home, etc. I have had Travel Pro and Tumi bags but am ready for a new hard-shell roller bag, black. We are going to Paris again next year. Your capsule list will be where I start. You are the best, Erin!😘
I don’t travel a lot, but that’s about to change. I just asked all my friends who travel a lot, all said Monos and Beis luggage with Beis or Longchamp bag. Happy travels 😊!
For trips when I’m on the go, I pack a bedside cube. It has everything I need next to my bed eg lip balm, kindle, glasses etc. Saves so much time when I arrive in each location, I don’t have to spend fiddly minutes retrieving everything from everywhere. Also good in the morning when my room is going to be serviced, I just pop everything in there so they don’t’t get mixed up in any room servicing activities.
That is an awesome idea. I always have a bunch of stuff making a mess on the bedside table. Great idea for my upcoming Spain/Portugal cruise! Thank you!
I learned the second bag trick from you years ago, and it is key. I could never do all carry-on until I got a larger second bag that would fit under the seat in front. One thing to remember is because of the 2 bag limit for carry-on, if you are carrying a purse it has to fit in the second bag for boarding.
Hi Erin, This video is perfect timing for me. I am going to Denmark and Sweden next month. I will take all of your tips to heart. Two years ago my husband and I took a three week trip to Italy. It was our first European Vacation without the kids since we had been married and we wanted to be a little more dressed up, but also do a lot of hiking. We overpacked so much and regretted it almost everyday. We stayed mostly in "Old City" centers so we had to leave our car away from our apartments. We often stayed on 5th or 6th floors so that meant we were constantly rooting through our luggage in the car lot to try to bring just essentials. My one additional tip is to pack your toiletries, tech and non clothing items before your clothing. It is amazing how much clothing you can cram in a bag, but then not have room for your other essentials. It just saves time and headaches when you are packing.
Thanks for these packing tips. I am a big fan of also bringing at least one scarf/wrap/Turkish towel/Pashmina: the versatility to tie solid color basics together, doubling as light blanket, taking up so little space in carryons. Also, jewelry is such a space-saving & are style-elevating items, too. 😊
We did three weeks in Portugal in carry-on and it was so nice to travel light. I did a navy and white capsule wardrobe that was perfect for May. Thanks for all your content!
I want to share a bad experience with you guys. My husband and I took a tour to Egypt/Dubai/Abu-Dhabi this year (18 days) and we packed EVERYTHING in our check-in luggages; when we arrived in Cairo my 2 suitcases didn’t arrive, they were lost for 7 days. The stress and the frustration that we experienced were immense especially because we didn’t speak the language. We had to buy pretty much everything including a carry on luggage which was an extra expense. We travelled with that carry on luggage for those 7 days which made me realized that I always over pack and that I can travel with few pieces and mix & match them to get more outfits. From now on for long trips, I am going to pack 3 outfits and my essentials in a carry on just in case my check-in luggage is lost again.
I have heard of a tip that you pack a small, packing cube of at least one full outfit and put it in your husband’s luggage and he does the same in yours so that if one of the bags gets lost you still have a few things if for instance, his bag shows up and yours didn’t.😊
HAIR CARE...so I learned another hack from traveltipsbylaurie...we don't wash hair daily so pack a few contact lense containers with a squirt of shampoo on one side and conditioner on the other...works for styling creams and gels too, anything with viscosity.
My lovely hairdresser gives me lots of free shampoo/conditioner duos to bring on my holidays, she gets them free from her haircare reps, they are light and tiny and so handy.
Thank you so much for not making us feel a failure because we don't pack instagrammable carry on cases with everything in a matching beige pouch or packing cube. Absolutely crucial to fill all the little crevices with bits and pieces. I do struggle with bringing my hanging toiletry bag and have tried other smaller pouches but it lies flat on top of all my other stuff and I have all toiletries in one place, I'll keep experimenting though. Thank you for a great vlog, the one that you did a few years ago was invaluable too. x
We went to Italy for 2 weeks in February with lots of train rides from city to city. ITA has a smaller carry-on size regulation, so I packed for that trip in a tiny carry-on and one of those backpacks that zips open like a suitcase. Compression bags helped. Leaving Friday for the Abacos in Bahamas. That trip will be a small bag with swim suits, coverups, a big floppy hat and a couple of sundresses. Easy Peasy.
Such good advice! I saw your post just before my trip to Italy and used the same Beis bag as my second bag for carry on. Also, I completely agree on trying on outfits before you pack. There is nothing worse than buying a new dress, swimsuit, etc. and having it look horrible on while you’re already on your trip. Trying clothes on early can allow you to pivot before you leave.
Great tips, Erin!! I packed a carry on for a week in Italy last year and I learned a lot about what to bring/not to bring next time! My biggest wins were a white linen button down from Quince, and a navy, polyester t-back, knee length dress that looks amazing on me, didn't show dirt, and was able to be rinsed out and would dry. One of the worst was actually a cream linen dress which looked grungy after I wore it once and (unlike the Quince blouse), still looked like hell after being washed in the sink (it needed an iron). My biggest dilemma is what to do with my hair next time: After I wear a hat, it looks AWFUL; to the point, last year, that I started wearing my hat back on my head (not shielding my face - Eek !) so I wouldn't feel hideous when I took my hat off! I will definitely keep your tips in mind for my next trip! Happy to see you posting a video! I was just thinking the other day that of the several fashion influences I watch, you have been THE MOST helpful in actually helping me to understand (like the lightbulb came on!) HOW to put a wardrobe together. Thank you!! ♥
I only take black and white clothing with me when travelling bc they’re the only base colours I have. The only colours I have are integrated into the 3 flannels and denim jackets that I pack as layering pieces. I wear my platform converse on travel days and pack sliders, slip on vans and ankle boots for when I want to dress up a bit. I also take 2 hoodies and a raincoat, since I mostly travel around the UK (the country I live in) I also decant all of my haircare and body care into silicone toiletry bottles and decant my skincare into little 50ml plastic travel size set. 2 pump bottles and 2 spray bottles, I found them through TikTok
Really practical tips for my upcoming trips taking only carry on. I'm going to be making some refinements to the things I'm taking after your video. Thanks so much ❤
I know this is an older video but I’m only now catching up on your Chanel. Something I’ve started to do when on vacation is to repeat myself to a shampoo blowout at a nearby salon. Then I don’t need to bring all the hair products or the hairdryer. At 66 yo I’m only washing my long hair twice a week. Thank you menopause for no more greasy hair.
Nothing is better than the MZ Wallace for your second bag - trust me it holds as much as my first bag and has been all over the world and fits under every seat. And always looks great.
Really helpful travel tips Erin! I used to be an over packer but a few years ago, after struggling with mid sized luggage on trains on Europe, we decided to go carryon only, and after two successful trips with that system, I can attest that it’s worth it! Much less hassle, I had enough for a three week trip to several different cities just by hand washing some tops and undies along the way, three pairs of shoes is perfect, and travel size toiletries including bar soaps were great. I also pack a small backpack that qualifies as a personal item (and I pack my purse inside) and those two pieces held everything. It’s very freeing to plan your wardrobe and live with that for your trip. Scarves and accessories help change things up. Lastly, I’ve learned to pack a cashmere cardigan and scarf to layer with when you need some extra warmth. I travelled on airlines that have carry on dimensions but no weight restrictions, and I’m not sure what I’d do if they weighed my bags. That’s another challenge!
My daughter and I traveled to Scotland last November/ December for over 5 weeks . We switched Airbnb’s 4× , 4 different towns/ villages each with a carry-on + weekender type bags and we dressed well! Totally doable, no overpacking. I found shampoo and conditioner bars that I absolutely love and travel with those, I also bring unscented dissolvable washing machine “papers”. I agree no need for blow dryers or other hair accessories. They always have a blow dryer and other things can be figured out. Definitely a challenge, but also a competitive, who can do it best and do it well, fun!
Hi Erin, Carry on girl here! I also bought some compression cubes last year for a 3 week trip to your country (I'm from Europe) and they were very helful. But thanks to your vid, I can improve my packing skills even further and will put my small pieces in the free spaces the next time. Thank you.
Great video Erin! I’m impressed that you always look so stylish on your trips. I agree that 3 shoe limit and picking a neutral color scheme is key - I like to add a pop of color (favorite summer combo is navy + white with aqua or lime). My downfall for light packing is shopping on vacation.
I've never done carry on only. I always overpack lol. Especially shoes! Just got back from 2 weeks in France and probably could have packed differently but I wanted options for everything. And we were on a tour so they took care of our luggage everywhere so that was awesome. Because my home life is so casual in Florida I love to dress up when I travel. All the jewelry shoes bags etc. I'm hopeless :) Next trip is Spain in October. Never been there. 3 cities in 10 days. So will definitely have to be more strategic in packing! Will check out your lists definitely for that trip. Love all your videos ❤
Totally get it! I LOVE to have all the options too. I hope this does help when you're packing for your trip to Spain this fall. Have the BEST time!! xo
A few years ago, I tried carry-on only on a two week Europe trip. Never again! I was so stressed out during packing, at airports where sometimes they weigh your suitcase, trying to find room to fit souvenirs, getting some food items confiscated because there was some liquid in them (olive oil in antipasto in Venice). I had so much anxiety just trying to save some time, it’s not worth it. Sorry Erin 😅
Oh no! It definitely can add some level of stress like you've shared... It's important to do what works best for YOU when it comes to packing and traveling. xo
Learned the hard way on a two week trip to theFrench Polynesia islands- lost luggage- never again will pack light and a carryon! Thank you for the tips always love your videos!
Keep in mind that toiletries sized items can be a months worth of product sometimes. I use tiny containers for several of my skin care products. Try it at home so you know how much you use in a week then add a little extra just in case you get stuck somewhere during hurricane season.
I’ve packed with a carry-on and personal item bag for years now. It means being really mindful. Going on a Rhine cruise in a few days and color palate is black, tan, and cream/white. 3 shoes. Walking sneakers, shoes for the ship, and black pointy heeled flats for 2 fancy events. The older I get ( now 62 ) the easier I want my hair style. Compression bags are a must and so is an AirTag, which comes in handy when an Intl flight says your bag is too heavy. My goal is to leave more room for purchases!
Hi Erin! Going from Sweden to northern France for a week, this summer! We’re going by coach and stopping (to sleep) once on the way down to France. We 2 adults are quite used to traveling and minimize our packing very hard! Linnen and cotton pants are breathable and comfy, different tops/shirts also in linnen/cotton. Two or three pairs of shoes and one pair of flipp flopps to wear on the bus/plane! The flip flops are good to stroll around at your hotelroom! I always bring a straw hat in the summer! 👒 My own shade/parasoll! 🏖 Earplugs are also a must have! Night mask to cover your eyes in cotton so it breathes! (Compression stocknings for long distence flights! ✈️ You don’t want swollen feet that doesn’t fit your shoes anylonger afterwards!) This is all I can come up with right now… Thank you for sharing your experiences with us! Bye from 🇸🇪🌦🌻
When I did 3-country trip travelling light, with no time to do my hair, I just walked into a hairdresser's in Paris and got a fantastic shampoo and blowdry. Not even expensive
I’ve heard about issues regarding 21” or 22” carryons for Europe, but I think it depends on the airline. For example, I believe Delta says 22” is allowed for carryon. I hope so!
I’m one of those with high maintenance hair! 💁🏻♀️ I’ve been in 81 countries and I always bring all my hair products with me… of course I carry at least one checked bag. For me it doesn’t matter how cute my outfits are if my hair looks bad!!!! Thank you for the packing tips!
I’ve just returned from a three-week trip to Scotland. My partner and I stayed in eight cities in that time. We took only carry-on. The only problem was that sometimes, when I rinsed my underthings at night, they weren’t dry in the morning. ( I guess the rainy days were the cause.) However, I seemed to have incorporated most of your tips without knowing them from your video. The packing cubes are definitely on my list for the next trip. So, I thank you. Oh- not every hotel had conditioner. Some had that two-in-one, or even three-in-one one the bathroom wall. I’m brining my own next time.
Hi Erin, I loved the Beis mini Weekender bag, so I ordered it in the black and white stripe. I received it today, and while I still love the style, I find it to be very heavy. I'm a petite woman, so I just wondered what your thoughts are. Thank you! 🥰
It is heavy, which is why I really only kept it strapped onto my roller bag for ease of movement! Without that strap, it would be a tough one to use. Thanks for watching, Trisha. xo
I am going to Europe for 4 months with my husband, 19 year old son and 11 year old daughter. We are starting in the Mediterranean, Germany, Austria, Switzerland for autumn, Christmas markets and Norway for Christmas, Scotland for New Year plus points in between. What suggestions do you have for packing for a yacht trip in early September to hunting for Northern Lights in December? I’m struggling with getting our winter wear in a carry on. I’m probably going to have to let go of the carry on only idea. I also like to shop when I travel, but I think I’m going to have to send things home periodically throughout the trip.
For this trip, I think I would check bags. Might be okay if you are staying on yacht and not moving every few days. Otherwise, I would wear all your heavy layers and boots on plane and pack rest.
How do you manage your long hair on flights with no curling iron? Also what is your fav second bag to take? ( to place over your carry on luggage) thank you ❤
Good timing! Two travel questions as I’m watching the video came to mind. 1. I’m going with family of 4 to Greece for 3 weeks, 4 hotels, so far first 12 nights those 2 hotels do not have laundry facility at the hotel for guests to use. Any advice as with the heat and sweating it’s harder to rewear tops, definitely cannot rewear athletic wear and undergarments. How do I avoid packing 3x what I would if I had laundry capability? 2. Why is a good daytime show for max comfort, breathability, but also not tourist looking with mesh athletic running shoes? Thanks! Been using your inspo videos to pickup some less costly but on trend pieces to enjoy being more fashionable and updated on vacation.
Hello, I would recommend clothing from natural fibers like linnen (best for the heat) and cotton. They reduce sweating compared to artificial fibers and you can hang them out in the fresh air, so you don't need to wash after each wear. And your underwear can be washed by hand and will dry quickly in the heat.
Packing fabrics that dry FAST (Lightweight, thinner, breathable) will be super helpful. You can wash by hand in the sink - just don't plan on wearing that item the next day in case it's not quite dry yet. But a hair dryer can help speed up drying in a pinch. For sneakers... here's some ideas for you to check out! Haven't listened to a video of yours in a while. I always adore you. You seem so chill and awesome that you are so well traveled! And your style is so on point! And you're gorgeous!! Anyways, thanks for this! I'm not packing minimally for this trip but kinda haha we are in that stage of taking a suitcase of diapers and kids snacks and a stroller and car seat.... Lol And my husband is super tall and gets upgraded seats and a free giant checked bag. But this trip even with my art supplies I'll be in the equivalent of a carryon and personal item. Maybe with a small purse added on... Actually, hair oh my! I need to do my hair this trip. I was sick with a migraine all day and didn't have time soooo..... I'll take oil too... Maybe I may buy it since we will actually be in a city that has better supplies than I can get here
You can absolutely use a shoe bag... I don't so that I can easily fit them into tighter spaces separately. I put them in with the soles up, away from my clothes. In a shoe bag you just have less flexibility in where to pack them. Thanks for watching. xo
My question is there's a weight limit usually on the carry on bag and size limitations. Would have been nice to know more specifics on that. Also liquid amounts depending on where you travel. Alot of airports restrict the amount of liquids and toiletries type items
While there can be weight restrictions in certain countries, I haven't ever been asked to weigh my bag...except on small private planes where we knew the restrictions before leaving home and the luggage requirements were very clear. There is a smaller sized carry-on in this luggage set as well, but this larger carry-on meets the TSA requirements for size. When you're traveling internationally, definitely check your specific airline's restrictions for everything first! xo
Hi, I’m new here. Going to Scotland mid August. I’m a self-professed over packer! I’ll be using your tips to try to minimize some but if I pack my case full, I won’t have space to bring home any purchases and I know I want to bring back gifts for my grandkids, etc. I know it would cost quite a bit to have these items shipped home. Suggestions?
How exciting! You can bring a packable duffle bag, use the duffle as your carry-on when you return home, and check your carry-on suitcase with your extra items in it. It's generally less of an issue to check the bag coming back home. I've also not packed a duffle a time or two and just purchased one on vacation as well. Here's an idea of a packable duffle bag that would take up a small space in your bag but hold enough to work great! rstyle.me/+3xm8t4VxVIqIvl4rb47avw
PS: I actually decanted most of my liquids into plastic "travel pouches" I purchased on Amazon (mind were from Guxacu store). They are like a flat bag that expands when you pour a liquid in, and they have a screw top that pops open to reveal a tiny pour spout. Kept enough shampoo for two weeks, and NO leaking! Not green, :( but they worked FANTASTICALLY.
Always love your travel videos Erin, thank you. As an American living in Australia I learned the hard way that American carry ons are larger than the non-US flights allow. It would be very difficult for me to pack for 2 weeks with only 7kg total (including the case) Also, bag dimensions are typically smaller. Bag size max is 56cm long + 36cm wide + 23cm deep - I learned this one the hard way in Dubai 😢 and had to take a LOT out and try to wear as much as I could.
Yes!! Our carry-on bags are the world-wide acceptable size for this reason. I'm amazed how big the USA carry-on bags are. It's a great point to choose your bag based on where you will travel to.
While there can be weight restrictions in certain countries, I haven't ever been asked to weigh my bag...except on small private planes where we knew the restrictions before leaving home and the luggage requirements were very clear. This was a huge packing challenge for me when we traveled to South Africa last spring! It can definitely happen though, which would result in having to check your carry-on bag for that leg of your trip. xo
Great ideas and prefer not to check a bag. I so enjoy your travel footage. We are going to Oregon to explore wine country and hike. Great to see you and thank you!
Carry-on only here 🙋♀️ You look so stylish, with me, no-one else cares what I look like so I just pack minimal mix and match. Off to Poland on Saturday. Luckily we have relatives to relay the weather. Love all your tips. 👏🇦🇺
Thank you for the tips! Any practical suggestions for an Alaskan cruise in August? This will include some hiking and whale watching in smaller boats. Would like to use carry on.
We just put together a Summer Beach Lookbook that I think will prove to be an excellent guide for your trip, Ellen! busbeestyle.com/beach-vacation-outfits/ You may need more layers, including a waterproof/water resistant trench as well, but this is a great place to start. Pick a color story and mix/match your pieces. Add in a "Hiking Outfit" or two...Personally I'd go with something along these lines: Top | rstyle.me/+7dA9bhhelhWun1VTcGuFuQ Pants | rstyle.me/+HDdjDwqecOqbIF6qcsBmkQ or rstyle.me/+FmhYM5dk2OhBxkwasAwS0w or rstyle.me/+2Cf2srtiVXXABtAvS7coHg or Shorts (depending on weather) | rstyle.me/+6nzrUmftLE0LnkyxPD_eWw
I read in your blog that you take your blazer, sweater and scarf off once on the plane. Where do you store these items once you taken them off? You said that your zipper broke on your personal bag because it was stuffed full so I know you couldn’t put it in there. Where did it go? Once I got to the airport and before I boarded the plane I stuffed my coat and blazer in a compression cube that I planned to use as a pillow once I boarded, but the ticket agent stopped me and said I had too many items so I had to put everything back on. So once again I ask, where did the item you took off go?
I usually take a few new clear plastic bags (about 30 litres size) in my underseat carry-on, roll up outdoor clothes and stick them in a bag once on the plane, just squish it around my 2nd under-seat bag or use as an arm-rest. That way they stay clean and I can take them out and put them on when landing. I also use that bag to put outdoor clothes in when going through security because I hate putting my nice jacket in the bin someone put their dirty shoes in.
I did leave enough room to put my blazer into my personal bag (part of what made it too full actually), but most of the time I just left it on my lap or wore it. I run pretty cold most of the time though. Good to think about where you're going to put those "extras" beforehand! xo
Your plan would work perfectly if you got on the plane and then took your blazer and sweater and scarf and put them into the empty packing cube to use for a pillow. You just can’t walk past that gate agent with a third bag or a third item of any kind. But you are really on the right track. You just have to do it when you get to your seat on the plane. Once you’re on the plane, they don’t care what you do!
I do sometimes run into this on inter-country flights outside the USA. I always check the website ahead of arrival to the airport. For those, I pull out the necessities (what I cannot be without if the bag gets lost) and let them check the bag.
Wow! I've never run into this... 10 lbs would be tough. Just double check your particular airline's requirements of course. But I would likely have to check a bag in that case. xo
I was sooo looking forward to your new video...yes ❤❤❤I love your unique style and versatility for all the occasions and a huge bonus - you look fab in anything you put on, I have a sneaky suspicion even a potato sack would look good on you 😂
Your videos are always so helpful and inspiring! Would you mind to share your camera model and the lens you used with it? Are you pleased with its performance? Thank you!

One big lesson I learned is try on all your outfits before you pack them. Things might look good together on your bed but not on. Or things that looked great last year might you might not love as much. I like to shop on vacation so I bring a packable tote to hold things I buy. On the way home I check my suitcase and carry on the tote. The other thing I always travel with is a luggage scale especially to Europe. So many of those airlines have strict weight limits.
Fantastic tips, Erin! Thank you! I particularly appreciate your hair tip and on this last trip I did the same and found that I didn't miss my hair products and tools at all. I bought a pair of the NB sneakers like yours and wonder if you have a tip for keeping those clean and scuff free?! XOXO 😘
A Magic Eraser gets scuffs out of SO many things! Another option with white sneakers is a paste with peroxide and baking soda, scrub, then toss into the washer - dry in the sun. xo
As someone who travels a lot these are some great tips. I especially agree with the fact you need to use every bit of space carefully. Stuff your shoes with socks if you can. I live in Europe and one thing I always see are tourists who don’t understand the overhead locker space issues on inter Europe flights. This is very different to long haul flying. You want to stand in the queue early and get on that flight as early as possible. Airlines like Lufthansa are a true flight for space. I also see people book discount carriers for these short flights and you have no hope of ever being allowed two pieces of luggage onboard an airline like east jet. Do your research in advance and book accordingly!!
Thanks for this! We are taking a big trip with my 5 sons to Taiwan in July and I’m stressing the packing so bad. My goal is for us to all have carry one only. 😮
I'm going to Botswana in less than 3 weeks! 🐘Super excited but also stressed about packing. We have a limit of 26 lbs (12 kg), so that makes it a bit of a challenge, but we will manage 😆Have rewatched your Africa video several times. I wondered about bringing whites as a lot of guides mention that it's a bad idea. Did you have any issues with suncreen stains etc?
I hope that video is helpful for you as you prepare for your trip! The weight limit is definitely a challenge... If you do wear white, I'd opt for a light layer over it still. I think I wore more creams/tans and wore a jacket over any white tops that I did pack. I didn't have any staining issues though. Have an AMAZING trip!! xo

Thanks for all your travel tips. Like you, I tend to dress in a more dressy way, so do you have a video for clothes to pack for Ireland? We’ll be doing both cities and outdoor kinds of places next May.
Totally agree about the hair care--used to take all the stuff (plus the adapters of course) and now I don't even use those things at home! For medium to long hair, braiding or french-braiding at night while damp is a great trick. For me, cleansing and moisturizing products are hardest because my skin is sensitive--it's hard to pack 'enough' clean product for longer trips in 3oz containers. I'm open to suggestions, but I've found that at least for shampoo/conditioner the Everist brand has very clean ingredients in tiny little packages because they've taken out all the water in their formulations. Does anyone know if the contact lenses that are disposable (dailies) 'count' as liquids? Or can they go with 'medications'?
Thank u sooo much Erin! How wonderful, thank u for sharing Erin! Great video! We went to Hawaii, my ankles swell uhg, took a Norwegian cruise, n spent a night before getting on the ship! It was a Great trip! 😎❤️🎁💕⭐️🌴
Love this video! Question : what do you do with the clothes you buy on vacation? If I have a 5 day trip, I pack for 3 thinking I’ll buy clothes there. I’ve been burned a time or too tho!
If it is clear you aren't going to have space to bring anything home, you can bring a packable duffle bag, use the duffle as your carry-on when you return home, and check your carry-on suitcase with your extra items in it.
Thanks for the advice. I like to pack my clothes early and then remove a third since historically I never wear everything I pack. Also, refillable travel size toiletries of products I love are totally worth it. I’ve wasted too much product because a label has slipped off or faded. Those cute small generic containers with lotions/serums I swore I’d never forget are totally forgotten 2 weeks after my return and useless.
Love the video. Different topic, I love your closet. I’m building a house and I remember you did a video on your closet planning years ago, but I can’t find it. Can you send the links to that video please?
We don’t have a closet specific company in our area so I designed the layout and had custom cabinet maker execute. The drawback to that is - you don’t have all the inserts for the drawers. I also have SO many windows so that limited the amount of cabinets and hanging space.
Going to Portugal, for 3 months, Dec/Jan/Feb I just don’t know how I can do carryon when I’ll have all my computer gear & cameras, 3 months of skincare (I am very specific about that) and pack for a varied climate. I’m ok with buying hair needs there, and lotions, but my face I can’t play and of course basic makeup needs.
I used to feel that anxiety you referred to in the beginning of this vid, then we had a 3-week trip to Europe ("luxury" supposedly) - where our luggage NEVER showed up. Never. Not. One. Day. We were completely luggage-less every moment of every day for 3 weeks. It affected me in ways I never expected; basically I was put-out the whole time. Yes, of course I bought some things, but footwear is so important if you're walking miles every day - not the time to break in new shoes or try out new brands. I wore the same pair of sneakers every shod moment. Yes, dinners and nights on the town too. And skincare, I'm seroius about that, and it was hard to purchase the right things in other languages. For the first part, I washed underwear and spent the night on the floor in the bathroom with a hair dryer (some of those are attached to the wall). I was mad; had a slow burn going the whole trip. It was awful, but every experience has a lesson - now I carry on my essentials and, if my luggage makes it, great, if not, at least I have what I need in skin and hair care and a few neutral basics to switch out. So, on behalf of those who've never had to learn the hard way, thank you for the tips, Erin. We all can benefit from new ones!
Oh I am so sorry you had to deal with all of that, Jennifer... I do believe that traveling is meant for learning. In so many ways... We learn lessons with every trip! Thanks for sharing your experience too. xo
Oh what you've learned since that first trip! Thanks for sharing, Liz!! xo
Yes!! Mine is in my second bag. It has my cables, sleephones, eye mask, Advil (just in case), sanitizing wipes, lip stick, balm, etc
Love this idea. Thanks for sharing.👑💄💋
The second bag is JUST as important as your carry-on! Thanks for watching, Janet! xo
@@BusbeeStylearen’t there weight restrictions as well 🤷♀️
@bessmorin7399 yep on some airlines. Flying out of CDG France, our carry on was weighed.
@@BusbeeStyleon Emirates your not allowed a personal bag
Perfect timing! You really do learn a lot after the first big trip like that. Have an amazing time in Denmark and Sweden, Anne!! xo
Oh no! I’m so sorry! I can’t imagine not having my clothes for such a big trip and having to shop in Cairo! That must have been traumatic.
@@BusbeeStyle thanks for replying 🥰 it was hard but we enjoyed most of the trip. Take care
Great tip! Thanks for sharing. xo
Genius! Thank you
My lovely hairdresser gives me lots of free shampoo/conditioner duos to bring on my holidays, she gets them free from her haircare reps, they are light and tiny and so handy.
Two words...bar shampoo....the best invention ever. Put in a ziploc bag. Done.
Thank you for a great vlog, the one that you did a few years ago was invaluable too. x
SO glad you enjoyed this video, Claire! Packing is not an easy task, even after doing it as much as I have. Thanks for watching. xo
I also take 2 hoodies and a raincoat, since I mostly travel around the UK (the country I live in)
I also decant all of my haircare and body care into silicone toiletry bottles and decant my skincare into little 50ml plastic travel size set. 2 pump bottles and 2 spray bottles, I found them through TikTok
Really practical tips for my upcoming trips taking only carry on. I'm going to be making some refinements to the things I'm taking after your video. Thanks so much ❤
So glad this was helpful for you as your prepare for your trip. Have an amazing time!! xo
That's a great idea, Cindy! Thanks for adding that travel hack to the list. Do you have any trips coming up soon?? xo
@@BusbeeStyleyes I do. Paris the first two weeks in February. Now I’m looking for the best outfit or tracksuit to wear on the plane.
Nothing is better than the MZ Wallace for your second bag - trust me it holds as much as my first bag and has been all over the world and fits under every seat. And always looks great.
Agreed. I have the medium size, and it holds a ton. I love the sleeve for slipping over your suitcase handle and the cross body strap.
Great tips, Carolyn! Thanks for sharing. I hope you and your daughter had an amazing time on that epic trip!! xo
Have the BEST time!! xo
I LOVE all your travel videos. Packing, what to wear, and where you went i.e Africa. Thank you for all your great content!
I'm in Australia. We have a 7kg limit on carry-on bags. You need to weigh each item of clothing.
Wow! That is a tough limit to hit... Definitely have to be strategic and very well planned. That would be a challenge!
It's important to do what works best for YOU when it comes to packing and traveling. xo
You are my travel icon and we've been following you guys around the world. Great tips.Thank you.
You're so sweet, Polly!! Thanks so much for being here. xo
Thank You hun!!! So helpful and informative!!!! Love it!!! Will use all the tips and tricks!!!

Learned the hard way on a two week trip to theFrench Polynesia islands- lost luggage- never again will pack light and a carryon! Thank you for the tips always love your videos!
It's a really bad way to start a trip... Sorry you had to deal with that headache too, Rebecca! xo
This is a very helpful video. Please post more similar, updated content💗🙏🏻
Keep in mind that toiletries sized items can be a months worth of product sometimes. I use tiny containers for several of my skin care products.
Try it at home so you know how much you use in a week then add a little extra just in case you get stuck somewhere during hurricane season.
Great point! Thanks for sharing that, Joy! xo
How do you use the large BEIS carry on for international travel? They usually limit the length of the suitcase to 20” vs. 22” in the US.
I’ve literally never had an issue with measuring a suitcase. I just roll it on by. If you have a 3rd bag they will stop you, though.
✈️ You don’t want swollen feet that doesn’t fit your shoes anylonger afterwards!)
This is all I can come up with right now…
Thank you for sharing your experiences with us!
Bye from 🇸🇪🌦🌻
Those lightweight, natural fabrics are KEY! Thanks for watching and sharing your own tips!! xo
When I did 3-country trip travelling light, with no time to do my hair, I just walked into a hairdresser's in Paris and got a fantastic shampoo and blowdry. Not even expensive
Well that is a fantastic idea! Love it. xo
I do this for almost all my trips! It’s saves on time and space, and feels luxurious! I completely agree with you.
Do you guys put vitamins and supplements in the original packing or just in a week case or plastic bag?
I usually pack them in a small pill container and only bring what I need for the time away. xo
@@BusbeeStyle can you share what the pull case that was in the video was?
The unlabeled vitamins& supplements have never been an issue in carry-on?
Staet early! I usually start packing at LEAST a week ahead of time 😂
Absolutely! SO important to give yourself enough time. xo
I love packing too. Starting tomorrow for Saturday travel. 👋🏻🇦🇺
Only a WEEK ahead?!
My trip isn’t for another two MONTHS and I’ve already planned my travel capsule and done a practice pack. 😅
@@amiek9226 I do the same thing! It always makes me feel better when I do the practice pack.
I’ve heard about issues regarding 21” or 22” carryons for Europe, but I think it depends on the airline. For example, I believe Delta says 22” is allowed for carryon. I hope so!
I typically fly United and never have issues
I’m one of those with high maintenance hair! 💁🏻♀️ I’ve been in 81 countries and I always bring all my hair products with me… of course I carry at least one checked bag. For me it doesn’t matter how cute my outfits are if my hair looks bad!!!! Thank you for the packing tips!
That is totally understandable! Do what you have to do. :)
Can the regular beis (not the mini) weekender be used as a personal item with a carry on suitcase?
I think it’s too big. The mini is also HUGE
I found the same with conditioner, I do bring a very small container of my own - I bring a thick, moisture intensive one so a little goes a long ways.

What a great video! I have a question: Do you prefer a black or beige pack back?
Hello Erin, I am going to Spain in a month!!! This video is right on point! Thank you for sharing this video

Erin- you look absolutely beautiful in this video. The pink lady jacket looks fabulous on you. Thanks for all of the wonderful packing tips.

I'm not packing minimally for this trip but kinda haha we are in that stage of taking a suitcase of diapers and kids snacks and a stroller and car seat.... Lol
And my husband is super tall and gets upgraded seats and a free giant checked bag.

Hi Erin I just wonder dont you have shoe bags? You put the shoes without protection in your luggage?
You can absolutely use a shoe bag... I don't so that I can easily fit them into tighter spaces separately. I put them in with the soles up, away from my clothes. In a shoe bag you just have less flexibility in where to pack them. Thanks for watching. xo
Thank you Erin! Going to Turkey in November - this is incredibly helpful!!

When you're traveling internationally, definitely check your specific airline's restrictions for everything first! xo
Yes, how do you pack only carry-on, with weight limits, and taking necessary toiletries, adhering to the Liquid rule. Even mascara counts as a liquid
@@BusbeeStyle Thanks! I’ll try this.❤️
PS: I actually decanted most of my liquids into plastic "travel pouches" I purchased on Amazon (mind were from Guxacu store). They are like a flat bag that expands when you pour a liquid in, and they have a screw top that pops open to reveal a tiny pour spout. Kept enough shampoo for two weeks, and NO leaking! Not green, :( but they worked FANTASTICALLY.
Great find! Thanks for sharing, Deborah! xo
How do you approach the challenge of weight restrictions if luggage in Europe?
While there can be weight restrictions in certain countries, I haven't ever been asked to weigh my bag...except on small private planes where we knew the restrictions before leaving home and the luggage requirements were very clear. This was a huge packing challenge for me when we traveled to South Africa last spring! It can definitely happen though, which would result in having to check your carry-on bag for that leg of your trip. xo
GREAT TIPS ERIN!!!!

We just put together a Summer Beach Lookbook that I think will prove to be an excellent guide for your trip, Ellen! busbeestyle.com/beach-vacation-outfits/
You may need more layers, including a waterproof/water resistant trench as well, but this is a great place to start. Pick a color story and mix/match your pieces. Add in a "Hiking Outfit" or two...Personally I'd go with something along these lines:
Top | rstyle.me/+7dA9bhhelhWun1VTcGuFuQ
Pants | rstyle.me/+HDdjDwqecOqbIF6qcsBmkQ or rstyle.me/+FmhYM5dk2OhBxkwasAwS0w or rstyle.me/+2Cf2srtiVXXABtAvS7coHg
or Shorts (depending on weather) | rstyle.me/+6nzrUmftLE0LnkyxPD_eWw
Layers layers layers. And one pair of water proof shoes!
How about weight on your carry-on? Some airlines limit weight on carry-on to 10lbs.
But I would likely have to check a bag in that case. xo
@@BusbeeStylevery few airlines do this but it's out there. I know Philippine Airlines do and it annoys me to death. 😊 Just another travel stresser.
Thank you Erin! It is always such a joy watching you and learning from your experiences.
We will travel to Alaska for a friend’s retirement and sightseeing in early August. Virginia will be hot and humid so as it is now, whew!
Have a great time, Vanessa!
Thank you!
Thanks so much, Elizabeth! This is the camera I've been using lately. xo

I went to Croatia with hand luggage only and im going to albania for 16 days also with only an carry on. It makes traveling so easy!
Good to see you again!
Great tips Erin! I tend to be an always-checker. Does the weekender bag fit under the seat?
Yes! This one is their "Mini Weekender" and it fits under the seat. xo
YES! Absolutely try them on! And take a picture on your phone of the outfit too! xo
Where can you get a travel luggage scale?
Such a helpful video for summer travel ❤ thank you
Fantastic tips, Erin!
Another option with white sneakers is a paste with peroxide and baking soda, scrub, then toss into the washer - dry in the sun. xo
@@BusbeeStyle Thank you so much, Erin!
Thanks:) I’m going to Osaka Japan this summer.
Have a great time, Stephanie! Hope this video helps you pack for your upcoming trip!
What’s the trench coat you try on?
Hi Daniella! Here's the link to shop that trench coat: rstyle.me/+hiVtkPkfVqcyY4waS5q4dg
Could you show some styles for the Paris Olympics?
Thanks for this! We are taking a big trip with my 5 sons to Taiwan in July and I’m stressing the packing so bad. My goal is for us to all have carry one only. 😮
Have a great trip!! I hope these tips help as you work on narrowing down what to pack. xo
Have an AMAZING trip!! xo
@@BusbeeStyle thank you very much for answering my question 😊 The video definitely was very helpful- especially in balancing being practical and looking stylish 🤗

Thanks for all your travel tips. Like you, I tend to dress in a more dressy way, so do you have a video for clothes to pack for Ireland? We’ll be doing both cities and outdoor kinds of places next May.
Very helpful. Thank you. BTW your hair looks great in this video 🦜
Thanks so much! xo
Wow, thank you! Best way to do my troches in my filter water bottle. Now I’m less stressed.
Very helpful tips! Thank you Erin!
You are so welcome! Thanks for watching! xo
❤ your jacket & your earrings 👍
You look especially beautiful in this video! Love your hair and overall look here.
Aw thanks so much! xo
Thanks for sharing your experience too. xo
Great video❤😊
