I loved how you address the "biggest complaint" among tourists about Da Nang, i.e., noise pollution. That's topnotch empathy for the people of Da Nang.
Empathy but also just respect. Gotta respect the hustle
Kim has a 5 year visa exempt which is what I have because she was either born in VN or parents are Vietnamese. Look up Lynn Visa and she may be able to get you a visa before you leave if you want.
Yeah I was wrong I thought she had a work visa but she told me has a 5 year family visa. I should probably know these things 😂
If you get used to the communal way of living in VN, you'll survive and enjoy it.
Eat at a Vietnamese family's lunch or dinner, you'll see they share their food.
Drive on the crowded road and for the overwhelming majority of the time, you'll see people drive slowly and let people pass you even though you have "right of way" or you let pedestrian cross the street while you swerve away from them - live and let live type of mindset.
Your neighbor ask you tons of questions about your family but then they'll be the one to reach out to you and help you navigate your way to find good deals, lend you stuff without questions.
Rain? Sure, you can stand under our awning to avoid getting wet for the next 30 minutes even though you're not going to buy any stuff from us.
I remember the "xe om" driver in the alley taking a child with stomach ache to the hospital while his parents were out without taking any money.
Same thing with the construction noise. The neighbors know the owner is anxious to get the renovation done quickly so they let them start construction early .... because at some point you'll be the one having your house renovated and don't want to drag out the construction which cost you more money so you'd want the neighbors to let you start your project early in the morning, end late in the afternoon.
I'm sure there are exceptions to this but for the most part, Vietnamese are more sympathetic and forgiving than us Americans.
Yeah it’s a lot more communal living here. People help each other out and make allowance for each other. American is all about self.

I visited Da Nang and Hoi An for the first time this month.
Yes, it was pretty noisy everywhere!!
I enjoed coffee at many nice cafes, and delicious foods, but I didn't like that many people smoke in any places outside.
I like walking and riding a bike. Every time, I smelled smoke.
Even at Ba Na Hills, an amusement park, smoking is allowed outside!!
Oh yeah everyone smokes everywhere here that’s definitely real.
the good thing about roses that aren't bloomed yet, they LAST LONGER and actually bloom later
Someone who's DNA is 100% Vietnamese should automatically get citizenship. My 23andme proves it 😂

Oh man the construction in Vietnam is next level, everywhere
In Saigon I've had the neighbor starting work at 5 or 6 in the morning with the jackhammer 🤦 from Monday to Sunday until late at night
Needless to say I moved out

when I worked remotely from Nha Trang for west coast clients, I had to be up for them from 10pm to 5am to do stuff that required meetings. How do you organize your remote work to not be up until morning and have your west coast clients happy.
I work B2C with a global userbase. Our team communities async online. I rarely take meeting but I do have board meetings, vendor calls etc. In those cases yeah it’s late night 9pm - midnight. I don’t do demon hour calls anymore. I figure if they’re not willing to wake up early for a call then it must not be that important
Ohh, u know, at Arrow cafe there is the english-speaking club on Sunday evenings! a lot of vietnamese and russian people go there to train their english

Yay! I was in the vlog. Thanks! Great Q&A. My partner and I actually looked at your apartment building, but ended up at a hotel instead. Like you, I attempted to try new cafes / restaurants consistently. So I'm recognizing a lot of the spots you're visiting. But ended up with a routine eventually when we discovered our favorites spots. She also is a coffee connoisseur and requires a high quality product. I tried to work at night / sleep middle of day method. But the noise in the afternoons often woke up making the schedule untenable. Once I've been so desperate I got a hotel in a quiet part of the city for a night just to take a nap. I like that Vn is affordable to us geo-arbitragers, so throwing money at a problem often works.
Yeah there’s pretty much always a solution for anything that requires not much money(for us). Yeah routines are normal. It does exhausting sometimes to make an effort to go somewhere new everyday.
It is ok that all the flowers are not the same size. Some of the blooms haven't fully opened up yet. 😊
Yeah it’s all good. I’ve walked through the markets before and the flowers are always so full so that’s what I was expecting
The way you talk about Da Nang is just like a local Vietnamese person proudly talking about their beloved city. You mention both the good and the bad things about Da Nang, but in the end, you still love it and stay with it.

I appreciate and admire anyone who’s working hard to improve their situation, especially when they do it with optimism and a smile on their face. This used to be the defining characteristic of America but unfortunately I think we’re losing some of that spirit.

I actually miss the heavy downpour in VN. The air turns cool before and afterwards.
Weird thought, I'd love to be able to hear Nola "talk" about what it sees as it walk on the streets in VN. That would be interesting wouldn't it, a pet's perspective of where they lived before and where they moved to.
I grew up in Van Nuys. Also, from Seattle to Da Nang, a round trip is US$1086. EVA Airways. Most people want to meet and ask you a bunch of questions, but not pay you anything. What's a sub?? Okay figured it out, but to abbreviate it, some people may not understand. We older folks. :) From what I've seen, I'll be walking across streets with strangers by my side. :)
Van Nuys in LA? I went to school out there in the valley for grade school.
@@TravelWithNala Van Nuys, San Fernando Valley, Cohasset Street Elementary, and Van Nuys Hi, just in case. :) But that was in the '50s and '60s. When there were still orchards, dirt roads, and empty lots.
Another great video! I think ordering flowers via Grab was a great experiment. I did the same with KFC in Malaysia (wasn’t worth it). Ordering coffee and Dim Sum in bed as soon as you wake up and having it delivered in less than 20 minutes, at a totally reasonable price, is just a next level experience. Hope you can hit 10K soon!

How does one claim their Vietnamese lineage? I was born in Vietnam but raised majority of my life in the state. Can I purchase property in Vietnam if I can prove my lineage?
Not sure what the process is but I’m pretty sure it’s well documented online. Foreigners can purchase condos in Vietnam but with lots of restrictions. If you become a citizen then you can buy land.
Don't complain about the color when you said it was okay to change. Thanks for your time. Great job on Google Maps and trying new things. The noise in Da Nang is part of its experience. Typical expats/Americans constantly complain, yet they don't leave. I found this out in Ecuador. Great attitude. I'll be there in October, can't wait, staying in VN for two months to see if I want to retire there. And the tourist visa used to be 30 days, not too long ago. :) Have a great weekend.
Yeah I think the government is working on new visas a word on the street was the digital nomad visa would be ready in 2024 but 2024 is almost over. Doesn’t affect us much but just interesting to see how vn is growing.
@@TravelWithNala I've heard from two vloggers, that VN is working on a retirement visa. But I'm happy with 90 days. Inconvenience is a matter of mind. It is only inconvenient if the person thinks it is. I'll fly over to Thailand for a week, enjoy the food, get my evisa, and fly back. :) Have a great weekend.

I don't think Dave was complaining about the flower color, it was more about the quality, size, and shape of the flowers.
There was an inconsistency in the phase of the buds unfurling... some were open, some were open-ish, some were still tightly closed.
There was also less volume of accent greenry. 😊
Look into F2 visa for Korea. I think that’s what it is.

Don’t have have a passport but I’m not eligible for any Korean Visa it’s complicated

It is not like everyone in the city knows where everything in. I couldn't tell you the name of 95% of the stores in the nearby mall after lining here 12 years

A habitable 2 bedroom apartment in LA would nowadays cost you at least $4,000/month. Imagine living in DaNang with that amount of money!
I don’t event think houses go that high here. I recently saw a 7 fully furnished bed 7bath mansion with a pool and every amenity possible for like $3k
If you wanna try a tucked away coffee shop no ac but interesting coffee if you haven’t already I’d try slow breeze and sofuo coffee!

Apparently I was told that the multiple entry visa is basically the 3 month visa (multiple meaning 3x1 month), and the single entry just means 1 month, so it doesn't really mean being able to enter multiple times or anything of the sort
I believe the single entry is still 90 days but as soon as you leave your visa expires.

If you can go out for coffee and to eat then you should go out and select the flowers yourself. That way you get just what you want.
Yup ordering flowers through grab is not the move but I’m always down to try new things to find out
