My mom always told me if you don't go now, when? Wait until you are 80, walking with a walking cane! How far can you go? Time flies by, and it won't wait for anyone. Also, remember not to do crazy things, just do things that make you sleep well at night.
Great vlog, really informational and honestly inspiring for people who want to travel. Love that you don't over-glamorize traveling like other youtubers. Looking forward to your guys' Singapore vlogs!!
I did the same as you guys, I packed up my life in London and moved with my cat in tow to travel around Asia. I also initially started in Korea and though I loved it there, I couldn’t see myself living there long term once I arrived. Next option was Da Nang and as soon as I arrived here, I felt so welcome and at home and my cat adapted really well. I was afraid at first leaving all my safety nets behind in the UK, but I got lucky to find a great apartment where my landlady loves my cat as much as me and literally jumps at the chance to look after him while I go and explore every few months. Been here now a few months and I feel like I’ll be here for at least the next year or so. Anyway all that say, I loved seeing others with a similar experience of slow nomading. Would love to follow you guys on socials and maybe I’ll bump into you around town. Also countdown to 10k 🎉🎉 you’ll get there before the end of the year for sure.
Nice! Glad you took the leap and enjoying what you found on the other side. Yeah lots of people here are huge animal lovers. The bad apples always sully the rep. Feel free to say hi or join us for a cup of coffee if you ever see us around town!
How was it traveling from your home country to Korea, then to Vietnam with your cat? My cat is 2- almost 3, and I worry about the stress traveling to Da Nang may put on her. I have traveled extensively while in the military, but that was over 20yrs ago. For the last few years, I've really felt the pull to leave the US. To be fair, though, I think I'm just making up excuses in my head not to do it, as David said at 12:55, despite my job forever being fully remote😂
@@ritas3696 I was super worried before and even during the journey that my cat would be too stressed, but he was really chilled for the whole journey. Ever since I got him as a kitten I got him used to going outside with me on car rides, to the parc and bike rides. Not a huge amount, but even for him to associate his harness and travel bag with the fact that he’s about to leave the house. So he’s learned to retreat into his travel bag for safety when he feels stressed. So for most of the journey itself on the planes he just stayed in his bag, sleeping and occasionally would peep his head out to look around. During layovers I would leave the bag open in case he wanted to explore, and he would for maybe a few feat around where I was sitting and just come back either to his bag or sit on my lap. He didn’t eat or drink much during the journey itself and didn’t poop or pee once, even though I had his travel litter and tried to make him go. But as soon as we arrived and he noticed that we were staying somewhere for more than a few hours he would use his litter. A lot of preparation did go into the journey, I also broke down our travel routes overall several weeks before we actually made it to Da Nang to try and reduce the stress of long travel on him. The way from London to Da Nang, took us one long car drive to Paris, 2 flights and one train ride, he loved the train btw, and I booked a two sleeper so we wouldn’t be cramped. So yeah, I was ready to bend over backwards to make it as comfortable as possible for my cat so I didn’t really spare any expenses or mind adjusting my itinerary, and also travelling with airlines that allowed for me to have my cat with me as carry-on, not as checked luggage. Maybe you don’t need to go as far as I did. Hope this helps
Hi from NZ! Enjoyed the first video I watched (the latest one with the storm), and had an inkling your channel started out as a way to keep your families back home updated ❤ Definitely don’t miss out on Malaysia while you’re in SEA! Subbed so you’re a little closer to talking to YT CS 😂
Wow thanks! I trained classical singing for about 15 years but now it’s years later my voice lost its resonance so I always thought I sounded weird and squeaky. Hard to listen to myself in the vids 😂
I am planning to go for 3 months in Vietnam , a month each in da nang, Saigon, Hanoi .I wonder whether we can get accommodation for condos with a budget of $700 a month.
@@judymckee5992 Hi. There are so many apartment/condos you can find here in Danang depends on what you want with a reasonable price. Our apartment now, I found it through a Facebook post. It’s 550 USD per month excluding utilities. It’s one block from MyKhe Beach and so many restaurants and grocery stores around the area. Very convenient location.
Thanks so much for your insights, folks should learn so much from the things you say. i like your point in allowing for folks who might have valid and important reasons for not been able to travel, but your thought process is enlightening keeping it real and informative best of luck .
I appreciate your kind words. I think it's always good to have stimulating conversation so we don't get stuck thinking the same way. I'm trying to figure things out as well just thinking out loud in front of a camera while doing it haha.
Hi David, I love this video! I think this is by far your best one yet! There was so much info and insight you provided to your viewers and you were very genuine and honest about everything you said. You’re natural and very good at this. Thanks for sharing.
Just subscribed!! You will get to 10k soon 🙌🏾I appreciate the authenticity and honesty in your approach to travel. Danang is one of the best cities in the world and I love hearing your experience here. As a fellow American in Danang, I would love to grab coffee with you and Kim sometime and connect!
Hi David, thank you for sharing. I’m one of those older folks that live vicariously through your videos. I subscribed and I really enjoy your videos. Specially the travel, coffee runs and outings with Kim. Good to see everyday life around Da Nang!
I love your stories David....very matter-of-fact and clearly articulated. I'm inspired to see Da Nang now that you and Kim have shared! I've subbed! Lol!!
Thank you again for sharing! Another great video with so much to learn from. That quote at the end, is the perfect ending to your vlog today! Already looking forward to your travels to Singapore!
🤔 As a new viewer and subscriber, David, I really enjoyed watching this latest video of yours. Your so-called ramblings made me 😂. Glad your bushy mike was waterproof 👍. ( Btw, you should at least scrub the carrots 🥕 😉 I normally peel them.) Good luck with your target of 10 000++ subscribers.
I stumbled on your video as I research about Da Nang. Love this video, very informative and fun. I plan to visit Da Nang and see if I can live there long term. I have tried Bali and it does not work out. If you happen to be in Da Nang in early June, 2025 I would love to meet you guys.
Thanks! It took a while for me to feel comfortable in front of a camera. It's still a work in progress but I'm improving day by day. Nala is the best dog in the world
Great video with lots of great information. We retired early and live part time in Germany because we love living and traveling in Europe. It’s been the best decision ever!
Excellent information. That’s my biggest regret when I look over my life. I wish I would’ve lived a year somewhere outside of the US. I am planning to visit south east Asia for three months next spring. I’m coming to Vietnam then I’ll be going to Korea, JapanBali Taipei, and a couple of places in Europe. Thank you for talking about the pet aspect. I have two cats that won’t be coming with me and now I fear that I could never live abroad because I’m concerned about getting my cats to another country safely with the information was so good. I look forward to seeing you next video.
Oh I'm so excited for you! I'm sure this will be a transformative adventure for you. Oh and moving with cats is definitely 100x easier than with dogs haha.
Well you inspired me! Just told my manager that I intend to work from Danang next summer. It's only 2 months, but it's something! It is definitely more challenging with kids (I have 2 who are under 12), but we are dropping them off in Singapore with Grandma before we head to Danang! BTW My husband will be there towards the end of the month, if there is anything you need from the US!
People are surprised that if you’re good at your job, a lot of companies will allow you to work remotely temporarily if you ask. Da nang is great for kids too but of course a vacation without the kids has to be a special kind of sweet haha. That’s so sweeet you to offer but coincidentally Kim actually just went to the US so we’re all stocked up on supplies. For the most part we’ve been able to find everything we need here.
Loved the new video! My girlfriend and I actually visited Da Nang a couple of weeks ago and it was AMAZING! We really wish we spent more time there. We also kept thinking, “What if we ran into David & Kim?” lol. We stayed at the Intercontinental resort for one night for her birthday, and I highly recommend checking it out one of these days if you haven’t already! I was really curious about how you were able to support your family living in another country so I’m glad you shared that. As a recent college graduate I’m looking for a job as a data analyst but I’m deciding to drop that all together and just start an ecommerce business. Probably not the best idea, but I’m super interested to learn more about what you do as an entrepreneur if that’s something you’re willing to talk about!
Aw man looks like we missed you! tbh I'm kindof a hermit for most of the day haha. The Intercontinental is definitely on our list we would love to do a staycation one of these days. It's the best time in your life to take risks and try dumb things. Even if everything goes bust you'll come out the other end so developed as a person that it'll be worth it.
So great to have found your channel! We are also korean Americans (I’m Korean Canadian) living in da nang. We’ve been here for about 7 years. We haven’t met any Korean American here. I’d love to connect with y’all to hear more about your experience travelling around Korea and Vietnam.
Its a great plan u have right there, and how much u guys love Nala to bring her to travel the world with you and how much it affects your decision when u travel to a new place. Its so rare to see sb doing st like this with a dog, it takes so much work and i can see Nala is a part of that joy to travel. Am a Vietnamese and ur right, many Vietnamese still don't consider dogs as a family member, althou it has improved today in many families as Vietnam develops, dog meat and having dog solely as house guard is still there:( it leads to mistreatment. As a pet lover I just wish Vietnamese love pets like America or the West, 🐕🐈 bring happiness and joy to our lives just like any human. While you're in VN, pls share with Vietnamese people you meet your story of bringing Nala to countries with you and how much you love her, i think it would leave an impression on people❤
Thanks! It's just Vietnam it's most countries tbh. Even in Korea not long ago dogs didn't really come into the house they just lived in the yard. In Vietnam I'm seeing more and more people buy things like dog beds and clothes for their dogs. Da Nang is growing so fast and the culture is changing too. It's really exciting being here and watching the changes in real time.
We have traveled around the U.S. and a few times overseas. Being home with extended family nearby is lovely to me and I enjoy traveling but there is nothing like being surrounded by loved ones.
Wow sorry for the humming from the induction stove T_T. Thanks for putting up with it! “For what it’s worth... it’s never too late, or in my case too early, to be whoever you want to be. There’s no time limit. Start whenever you want. You can change or stay the same. There are no rules to this thing. We can make the best or the worst of it. I hope you make the best of it. I hope you see things that startle you. I hope you feel things you’ve never felt before. I hope you meet people who have a different point of view. I hope you live a life you’re proud of, and if you’re not, I hope you have the courage to start over again.” *turns out I misattributed this quote. The quote is from the film The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.
I'm so happy I found your channel! Absolutely love the info and the delivery of your videos. We're moving to da nang from san Diego, CA next year and travelling with 1 medium (service dog) and 1 small dog. We're also flying EVA air but they told us we can't fly into Da Nang directly. Our connection is in Taipai but EVA air told us we can only fly into Hi Chi Minh or Ha Noi with the dogs. Do you have any insight to this? Did you have to put Nala in the undercar or did she fly with you in cabin?
Awesome! Good luck on your journey! You can fly into Da Nang, the information is not up to date on the websites. To confirm, you can call the Da Nang airport and ask them. Our original plan was to fly into HCMC and then drive 14 hours to Da Nang. That would have been exhausting.
Cool! Definitely a different situation for every country but a lot these "developing" countries are WAY more modern than people think. I'm sure you'll be able to figure it out.
Started watching your videos to prep for a Korea trip in October, but now i'm here for the content permanently! Also if I'm staying in Insadong during my trip, do you have any restaurant or bar recommendations from when you stayed there??
Thanks! That's cool! I know a bunch of people came for the Korea content and cycled out but glad to see that some people stuck around. There's so much in Insadong. We did an Insadong vid and we went to Kotton for coffee and Insadong Garlic Bossam for Dinner. Artist Bakery is also a super hyped up place
Love your videos! Very interesting and inspiring! I’m curious about traveling with Nala. What was the process of getting her paperwork for Vietnam? Did she need any shots etc? I know traveling internationally with pets is possible but it seems intimidating
Listening to you makes me think of the $1700+ my husband and I have to pay each month just to drive. Car payments, insurance, gas, registrations, maintenance... Not good! Btw, just got my husband to subscribe. Love your video!
Thanks for the double sub! Yeah rent and car expenses just become "normal" so we don't even think about it anymore. And almost anywhere in the US, you pretty much don't choice but to live the car lifestyle. I spend about $2 a month on gas and $5 a month for parking in Da Nang.
Hey David, love the content. Can you talk more about the process to bring Nala over there? We have 2 big dogs. Are there challenges with flying Nala? We've heard horror stories of dogs flying cargo and want to give them the best route.
My wife, son, cat and I will be moving to Da Nang in a few months. We also had a pittie named Nala but she passed away a few weeks ago. We were totally stressed on the logistics of getting her there. Not that it matters anymore but I was curious the details of bringing a dog into Vietnam. Reddit research can only go so far and there not a lot of RUclipsrs talking about the small details. Best airline, how’d your Nala handle the flight, how did she go to the bathroom, are fears of people stealing her justified, were the Grab drivers okay with a big dog in tow, paperwork, costs, what lessons did you guys learn about bringing her into the country and what advice would you give? Not sure if many viewers would be interested so I totally understand if the video idea never gets the green light but either way I want to thank you guys for making these videos as they’ve calmed a lot of our anxieties. Our Nala would never have bitten anyone either and I felt you guys’ pain when you had to get a muzzle for her 😢. You guys are awesome 🙏
It's not easy but I think 90% of the stress was just in our heads and the process was actually pretty easy. Nala is used to long flights and she can hold her pee for a long time so we didn't have to worry about that. We took EVA air because they seem to have a good reputation handling animals. Animal Quarantine in Da Nang is super easy and relaxed, it took maybe 5 minutes. We book a Grab and call them before they arrive to tell them we have a big dog and if it's ok. We've never been turned down yet. Just make sure to call the airline, departure airport, and arrival airport to confirm that you have everything that you need. If you're coming from the US, use the Aphis dot usda dot gov website for everything you need. Good luck!
Enjoyed the video. When you’re in Singapore, it’s easy to pop across the bridge to Johor Bahru Malaysia for the day. Malaysia is super affordable with great infrastructure and a 3 month visa on arrival. Not sure about the puppy though. Sorry to hear you’re not monetized. Hope you can get that resolved. Maybe Kim can start a channel? Having two channels can help protect you from RUclips’s random algorithm and demonetizing people.
Unfortunately our trip to Singapore will be pretty short but we do want to go to Malaysia as well. Kim’s not really interesting in YT but she tolerates me sticking a camera in her face once in a while 😂
Ngl I always wanted to do exactly what you two are doing however life didn’t work out that way. In returns though, staying in the U.S. gained me a wife, a career and 2 properties in Silicon Valley. We also have a kid now so the dream of nomading is kind of over. We did vacation in a bunch of places obviously but that’s totally different than living there. Japan and Vietnam are our favorite countries!
@10:04 vouch. I remember even 15 years ago my friend telling me whenever he goes to Vietnam he has to have a minimum of $10k budgeted for a month trip citing all the same things you did.
Wow 10k is pretty insane but if he’s got the money then great for him. There’s definitely high end resorts, fine dining restaurants, activities, and plenty of ways to splurge here if you want to
Hey!! I’m 71 and chat GBT is helping me figure out how to get a video editor for my planning journey as a 71 female with an aching back etc etc. Using chat GBT to really really help. So yes!!! You are great. Are u driving a scooters 50 cc yet?
i love the way cook and take care your dog. have you ever tried to give some fruits or vegetables to Nala?my pets love apple , carrot, cucumber and tomato. I have 5 dogs so b4 going to work i have chop off veg and fruits for them to snack daily....
No matter what people say, living in America or Vietnam is just a preference. It's like some people prefer In-N-Out to McDonald. I think both are tasty.
It’s definitely opened up the possibilities of travel for so many people. Before it took so much pre planning with saving up and trying to find time off of work. But at the same time I assume it had a different type of charm and excitement. Now everything is so connected that all the counties kinda seem the same and hopping to a new country sometimes just feels like 5% different because we’re all connected to the same internet
@@TravelWithNala so true! I've just watched all of your Vietnam videos. I'm home sick! Actually just got a bowl of Pho delivered. 😂 I'm near Sydney, Australia.
Distributed team. Async coms on slack and Jira. I avoid meeting like the plague especially inbound salespeople and “let’s explore synergies” type request. Occasionally have a zoom call at midnight still though
Can't provide too much insight but autism is definitely a global thing, I've seen plenty of people on the spectrum in both Korea and Vietnam so I would assume the struggles parents face in the US would be similar in other countries. I would guess that professional services if needed would be less available in Vietnam
1 sub closer to 10k, found you 2 (+ Nala) today and been binge watching (and liking) your videos :) PS: Australia has STRICT laws in regards of bringing animals in, I believe its a 3 month quarantine for them. I don't think you want to put Nala through that. But don't quote me on that. But Aussie laws are strict.
Awesome thanks! Yeah all the laws are different for each country so it’s too much a pain. Nala will not be joining us on our travels anymore we’ll get family to watch her in Da Nang when we travel
It was about $1k at a clinic in Gangnam (I forgot the name) but I think the prices are set by the government so it’s standard. Got dental work at UPenn Barun dental. Also did skincare treatments at several places.
I agree a lot of what you are saying. Only thing i would say is holding most people back also is having the ability to work remotely. A couple years ago working remotely wasn’t a big thing so more people had no choice but to stay where their job was. The people that have government jobs don’t have this ability to up and move especially without a college degree. In that sense most people are stuck unless they want to be beach bums or live off of another country’s rate of pay.
For sure gotta figure out something for income but there are so many options now. You can work a pretty modest paying job if you're getting paid in dollars and that will be more than enough in most of the world including Vietnam. I'd push back on the college degree part though, it matters less than you might think.
@@TravelWithNala Any suggestions for work? Im looking to bring my family to Vietnam & i also have a YT channel as well that i monetize but it doesn’t pay enough to live off of for a family of 4 lol. I admire your dedication to creating more content and taking the leap to leave LA, im in the Bay Area.
Depends on your skillset but there are remote specific job boards like RemoteOk and others. That might be a good place to start to see what's out there. A lot of jobs you can learn the skills required in just a couple of months. If you're entrepreneurial you can always freelance. It's really super open ended.
at the same time if you don’t have a remote job or do RUclips you’ll be stuck with local wages living the expat life above your means isn’t generally possible long term
Yeah I wouldn't recommend getting a local job unless you're teaching English. Way better to try to earn in usd where the conversion rate is massively in your favor. Where there's a will, there's a way.
it's a very broad question so hard to give specific advice. A remote job is just one step away from just a job so the process of getting a remote job is pretty much the same as getting any job.
@@TravelByAndy a little bit of tough love.I was going to google the answer for you and tell you but then I realized the 1 tip I can give you is to develop some personal agency. If you need me to google "remote jobs" for you then you might have a tough time here

Haha! I wasn’t demonetized as a strike. I just tried to swap bank account to an LLC but when I removed my original bank account it makes me wait 32 days before I can attempt to add a new one 😤
@@TravelWithNala Very nice! Thanks man. I gotta learn what you're doing because seems like the two of you are doing A-Ok. Since you're in Vietnam, is it fairly easy to find work? I always run into English teachers (rarely any other kind of career) because the job market is highly regulated for foreigners...
@@17napps38 You probably don't want to work a local job. Speaking English is a superpower here so you gotta take advantage of that. Teaching English here is a high paying job with easy hours. And of course working pretty much any job remotely for a US company makes you a very high earner in Vietnam.
Sorry, I still can't wrap my head around how you can live on a $1k budget even in Da Nang doing all that. I was there only 6 days and spent about $800 and only cuz I didn't dare to go eat at Lang Ca because of the cost.
It’s possible but it’s a shoestring budget. Most people I know here spend much more. It’s a place where you can have the nice things in life for a fraction of the price
need 10k subs to talk to real customer service. My monetization account got detached and you can only add a payment account every 32 days so I have to wait 32 days to try again.
I keep hearing that it's getting worse and worse. We used to live in DTLA and I also had an office in DTLA. I used to hear gunshots in broad daylight and we'd just shrug it off like it's just a normal day.
First time watching. I thought Nala was your human child. It’s your dog?? Lolol don’t get me wrong. I love dogs and have one I love but I donnno if I would design my slo-mad life around it. Couldn’t relate.
American are not wierd, I dont think so. Human around the planet are actually the same. In the past, Vietnamese people lived from agriculture, live stocks were very common. At that time a buffalo would be treated as a family member. Why ? Because they worked together on the field. So buffalo was more than just pet, but cats and dogs were treated the same like pig, chicken. If you asked an american how he feel about buffalo, he will probably say :"Oh I like it medium rare please". So different culture has different moral. If you have emotion attached to an animal, you would think of it like a friend, a child, a family member. It doesnt matter if its a pig, chicken, cow, or a dinosaur. Human are emotional, exactly the same, We are just born on different parts of the same planet. Today things are changed, the majority of vietnam take cats and dogs as pet, or like a family member. But not all of them think that way. Some are still living in the past. I can not eat cat or dog, and I also want the goverment to ban it, close all those exotic restaurant. But Im not mad about some ppl eating cat or dog (not stealting). Why? Because I understand...
Medium rare buffalo is my favorite 😂😂. Yeah I don’t judge people’s cultures and customs but I think every culture can agree that stealing or taking something away that’s important to someone else is universally bad
@@TravelWithNala dont worry too much about it. Dog snatching usually happens in rural area where dogs running freely on the street. Its not that easy to steal someones pet. In many cases dog thieves were caught and beaten to death by angry owner and villagers. Its unlawful but if they get caught by the police, they only have to pay a little fines and people are not satisfied with it.

I stumbled on your video as I research about Da Nang. Love this video, very informative and fun. I plan to visit Da Nang and see if I can live there long term. I have tried Bali and it does not work out. If you happen to be in Da Nang in early June, 2025 I would love to meet you guys.
Cool! Yeah a lot of people don’t vibe with Bali. It’s fun but it’s turned a bit into a purely digital nomad spot
I just love watching your videos. Nothing's forced. And your dynamics with Nala is amazing. Really hope you get the 10k sub soonest.

Great video with lots of great information. We retired early and live part time in Germany because we love living and traveling in Europe. It’s been the best decision ever!
Awesome! Always up for another adventure!
Wow, that's very nice of you to offer.

Great chat David. Hope you guys get 10k subs soon to speak to CS.🤞

Stoked I stumbled across your channel... I've always been interested in traveling with a dog to Asia.
Cool! Definitely a different situation for every country but a lot these "developing" countries are WAY more modern than people think. I'm sure you'll be able to figure it out.

Long way from DTLA. Good vlog. Q: Are you having 1,000s to dinner? You made a boatload of pasta!
Ya know I realized from the comments that I never mentioned I’m meal prepping for our dog for the month 😂😂😂
Hey David, love the content. Can you talk more about the process to bring Nala over there? We have 2 big dogs. Are there challenges with flying Nala? We've heard horror stories of dogs flying cargo and want to give them the best route.
There will always be horror stories but our process was mostly stress free. We flew EVA air because they seemed to have a track record with animals.
Good luck!

It’s definitely opened up the possibilities of travel for so many people. Before it took so much pre planning with saving up and trying to find time off of work. Is there anything you guys can share info wise about traveling to Vietnam with kids that have special needs (autism) ?
Can't provide too much insight but autism is definitely a global thing, I've seen plenty of people on the spectrum in both Korea and Vietnam so I would assume the struggles parents face in the US would be similar in other countries. I would guess that professional services if needed would be less available in Vietnam

It was about $1k at a clinic in Gangnam (I forgot the name) but I think the prices are set by the government so it’s standard. Got dental work at UPenn Barun dental. Also did skincare treatments at several places.
UOP is a good school for dental but it would be a last resort. Newbies are still practicing interns. At a university dental.
It's really super open ended.

one biggest thing holding me back is working digitally to earn some money. What are you doing digitally and are there any tips?
it's a very broad question so hard to give specific advice. A remote job is just one step away from just a job so the process of getting a remote job is pretty much the same as getting any job.
@@TravelWithNala I really want to move over there but afraid of not able to find a remote job. Any tips or sites?
@@TravelByAndy a little bit of tough love.I was going to google the answer for you and tell you but then I realized the 1 tip I can give you is to develop some personal agency. If you need me to google "remote jobs" for you then you might have a tough time here

Korea prefers Canadians somehow, they give us 6 months straight instead of 90 days.
I’m guessing Canadians are on average better behaved
I thought you were talking about your daughter for the first half of the video. Nope. It's a dog. 😂
Close enough 😂
This dude literally letting a dog dictate a decade of his life LMAO. Half way through I thought he had a daughter.
Surprisingly, many consider dogs to be some of their family members.
Their dog means a lot to them. Only pet lovers can understand
forreal man she don't even pay rent
You have such a positive attitude. I love your response. I make decisions based on my cats all the time. For example, I won’t take certain departments with balconies because I don’t want them to be roadkill.😂 only a pet lover would understand
Singapore is going to be a huge disappointment living in Vietnam :)
I've actually heard from a lot of people that there's not too much to do but I'm taking it as a networking trip and also to learn about the country and the economy/business landscape. it will be a short trip too.
