A lot of people don’t under stand cavitation, or electrolytes. Proper anti freeze / coolant is so important. Also proper grounding . Thanks for sharing your knowledge, great video.
The reason those engines don't have dowl pins is because of the three piece heads you put the heads on leave the bolts loose put the intake and exhaust manifolds on to square up the heads with the manifolds then torque the heads down. Thanks for all the great videos.
Ok thanks so much for the reply. I always am on the look out for new info and I think you are one of the best mechanic I’ve ever seen. Only one better was my grandad. You give him a grinder and a ballpein and he could build you a space shuttle. Thanks again
Really enjoy your content, reminds me of being a kid hanging with my uncle and grandpa, both operating engineers, heavy equipment mechanics. Never really got to see what they did in the field. Thanks.
Hi warren , the way I was taught was to get any exhaust valve open then set both valves on the next cylinder due to fire . That was from an ex RAF mechanic
So much great advice here mate. The bottom line is trust nobody! Every time you put your faith or trust in somebody else you introducing a potential source of problems. For the O rings I use a red rubber grease, been perfect so far so plan to stick with it. Got a new holland combine coming in that is breathing heavy, deep joy, zero bloody access and dust everywhere!
Yeah, I thought 140 was enough, but for a big diesel, 210 is understandable. I was waiting to see if he bumped it up to 280. Next thing I knew, all 3 heads were installed.
I always keep superglue in my truck and shop, mostly for glueing cuts closed. Same thing the hospital does. I highly recommend keeping superglue handy.
love your vids mate learning a lot and I'm no mechanic watching a lot other over a long while good luck in the future for you and the family regards mike from Beaudesert Aussie down under
Just finished my latest trailer and think it is the nuts, you might be interested in making one. My trailer is a mobile engine stand that I can tow behind truck and move around workshop. Makes humping around big engines so much easier. Built in drip pan with a drain system, parts storage and organising drawers and containers. Saves on back power wrangling big old heavy dirty oily lumps. Reckon you will see them on market soon, probably my design ripped off by China!
Why 22 dislikes ???? Why?? What's wrong with some people ?? Your videos are great.. Can't imagine disliking any of them.keep up the good work Ryan.. love watching you fix stuff. Trump 2020 😎🙂
After watching this I'm considering an in-frame rebuild on the 504BDT in my Case excavator, the engine is very accessible. We are going to do a compression check after Christmas. I'm also considering a flow restrictor on the turbocharger oil supply line to prevent oil from getting past the seals into the exhaust.
Cummins recommends Ni-cal in the anti freeze. Always check antifreeze on PH level when we ran the v-12 v-16 it was a must for such an expensive Engine. I had CE erosion on a Mercedes LA 442 bubbles ate a hole through the liner, noticed overheating , pressure tested and ran seen bubbles in radiator not good. Very expensive rebuild From there on we PH tested all the engines in the fleet and balanced the PH Test strips available through Napa
Love the beavis and butthead shirt lol keep the vids coming I enjoy the blue collar hard working Americanism your videos portray so many channels on you tube have gone to crap with the commercialism turning there channels into near product infomercials similar to home shopping network doing projects with tools and equipment no average person could afford its not easy starting out stay golden!
fictional25m Thanks for your compliments, and for taking the time to watch. I saw your message also. Either the metering valve is stuck, or gunk is trapped in the metering passage to the pumping head or something is haywire with the pumping head.
Cool video Mr. Warren.....Damn jets were low and loud.I had the surround sound on the Tv and I thought a jet was flying over Perry,Fl. till I figured out it was at yours.lol Just some info you may already know......They make a mike that's wireless and you can connect it to your camera I believe via Bluetooth. You do a very good job with your camera work.
If you put distilled water in or even filtered water in instead of straight water it accelerates the rate of electrolysis. The water will dissolve minerals faster the because there are no minerals in it. Water has a capacity it can hold of minerals so the less dissolved minerals in it the more it will pick up the minerals from whatever it comes in contact with. Plumber supply told me about this and how it dissolves the inside of boilers when people put distilled water in the system. Your best bet is good coolant.
All the work you do on this is all very good show and all the work you do is very good work and it's all very unique on the very good that you do on here
I'm a car mechanic and have always worked in busy shops where getting interrupted was just part of the job. I got into the habit of using a typists correction pen to mark the rocker after I had adjusted it so i didn't loose track of where I was. Its a good habit to get into. i do the same for torquing down head bolts. Say 3 step to tighten the head bolts . on the first stage tighten to 30lbs. Do the first one and make a line from the centre of the head of the bolt to the front . Then you can see at a glance where you are at when you get to the 2nd stage etc.
Sounds like someone specified Next Day Air Saver rather than NDA if things got delivered in the afternoon. NDA usually gets there by noon and Early AM is normally by 930 or earlier, depending on your location.
If you think UPS is bad, try ordering something from Amazon and have it delivered to your work because you work during normal delivery hours, but then you end up having to stay at work late until 9PM for the Amazon delivery truck to arrive - only for them to make zero effort to actually deliver it and tear out of the parking lot 20 seconds later with you running after it waving your arms around.
I want to apologize for yelling at you. I kept saying ring compressor louder and louder till you said it, lol. I still have brain farts too. Great video!!
I see ole Warrens got a microwave in the garage. I think he was smart and got one after his 15th time being sent to the dog house for the night. So he can be able to somewhat eat dinner. Prolly has a pantry sticked with tv dinners too 😂

I don't think 3m roloc discs to work on heads or blocks is a good thing. Specially diesel engines with tighter tolerances on deck/flat surfaces geometry. There is ceramic abrasive in the plastic of those discs and power tools rotate really fast,so a big amount of material is removed compared to a hand cleaning.
really helpful. Got a question. If you bring a block to an automotive machine shop every single time they will tell you you have to cut the top. Every time. How do you (personally) decide?
Just plain old 2nd day air has no time commit, other than the 2nd day. Try 2nd day air AM for morning delivery, or Next Day Air. Or have it held at the center for pick up.
What was the cause of the water in oil problem? Did you ever find it? For "O" rings, I use Dow Corning DC 4 compound. It's a rubber lubricant and preservative. Hi Western Truck, This is a pretty cool video. I subscribed after watching it! I would like to ask a related question as it seems you know these machines inside and out. I have just bought a 1985 Case 1155D track loader with a knocking 504 engine. I am new to machines this large all of my previous experience is with things like small farm tractors and skidsteers. I know they make in frame and out of frame rebuild kits for the 504. I assume this means the oil pan can be pulled with the engine still in the frame. However when I look at the underside of mine I am doubtful the pan has the clearance to be removed with the engine still bolted in place. Can you confirm if the pan can or cannot be removed when the engine is still bolted in place. I think it is a rod knock but I could be wrong. I also thought it might be a dropped valve but I pulled the valve covers and the valves seem to intact. So I need to pull the oil pan to see if I have a broken or a bad bearing. Thanks for any advice you can share with an old shade tree mechanic on repairing his new toy!
