- In 2019, to commemorate 10 years since David Tennant left Doctor Who, Fathom Events and BBC Studios marked the occasion with a big screen showing of the Tenth Doctor's swan song 'The End of Time'.
The evening also featured a brand new interview with David Tennant in which he reflects on his time as the Doctor, working with the late Elisabeth Sladen, filming his final lines and potentially returning for the shows 60th Anniversary...
Unfortunately only American audiences were treated to The End of Time cinema screening event with the Q&A, this was sadly never released commercially other than in America or shown worldwide.

David and Matt should be allowed to just walk on to set and be like " Right! Bring me my screwdriver, I'm in this episode now!
“Right, let’s fix this shitshow.”
Only David
@@Rangersboy-sx3nl And Matt and Peter..don't be a toxic fanboy
I've seen a number of interviews like this with David. Haven't really seen them from Matt in the same way. Has he just kind of gone underground?
@@elizabethgrosvenor153 I'm pretty sure he is busy working on other projects. Idk tho.
Imagine in the future if one of David's kids ends up as the Doctor that would be absolutely brilliant

anyone else watching this after his return to the show?
WELCOME BACK DT WE MISSED YOU!!
Si
If he is worried about getting too old to play the Doctor again, he could still appear with Billie Piper as her “mortal doctor”.
Dang it now if that happens I feel like I read a spoiler 😂
and I am 100% sure that that's exactly why that character was created in fact, to keep an open door for Tennant to always come back to the show
Funny enough, I thought of that possibility too. It's the only reasonable option, to be honest, that he and Billie Piper could join the 60th anniversary without finding it odd that they both have visibly grown older.
YEEEEEEEEEEEESS!!!
With RTD coming back...thats what I'm hoping for! A trip to the alternate universe!!!
DT is so well spoken. When was the last time we heard a celebrity use the word “vertiginous”? And love his pointing out the love story, even if between a 900 year old and a 20 year old. Love that!
Yeah it does need pointing out that one is 900 years old and one is only 20 :)
The bad wolf bay music playing while he talks just makes me emotional 😭
Except it wasn't the Bad Wolf Bay music.
@@aaronwl1098 no wasnt that either it was when the 10th doctor was saying his goodbyes to all his companoins before his regeration and this is the exact same sad but heartfelt music
The music is "Vale" from the specials 💀
R. I. P. Bernard Cribbins, for being amazing as Wilf! I’m so glad he managed to film scenes for the 60th
random, my family is from Oldham like Bernard, my Mums uncle knew him from school. i have another connection thanks to being from Oldham, my neighbours daughter is a friend of Suranne Jones, The Tardis/sexy may have been in their house lol. But the Bernard connection is the big one for me.
god bless mr cribbens was a great actor on screen as well as voice but he was in dr who 2 times ok thw 1 with peter cushing but also wilf whos to say the dr wasent on an alternative earth
“There’s a 60th anniversary in a few years and the question will inevitably come up”
It’s almost like he knew what was yet to come 🤩
Even after more than ten years, I continue to love the Tenth Doctor and all characters of the RTD era. It was the best time
yep defo totally agree david tenntant will alaways be my fav doctor and fav time of the show
It had a certain magic to it
now RTD is back! - i really think Ncuti Gatwa will do it all justice because lets be honest since matt smith it hasnt been as great
the time is back.
So true.
I don’t think David will never be tired of being of the doctor and personally I don’t blame him and even with everything he’s done to all of us he’ll always be ten the kind of fictional character I dream of being
Something that hits home in that regard has always been this scene for me. ruclips.net/video/w4xm9NHNUf8/видео.html Starting at that 1:50 mark.
David's doctor set the stage for WHO The Doctor is. Merciful until he must be merciless. And very sad that he had to be so merciless. The look on his face as he leaves the family of blood imprisoned in various ways differs between each member.
"We wanted to live forever, so The Doctor made sure that we did."
Literally when he mentioned fully grown adults growing up with him, I felt that. Im 18 now and started watching in 2005. I was 2. No joke
i turn 17 next month and i dont remember a time of my life when i didnt watch doctor who, whenever i rewatch it and look at the year each season was aired it feels so weird that it was so long ago now when it feels like yesterday - all the best people grew up with him :]
We can tell you're 18 because you unnecessarily used the word "literally".

I’m about to turn 25 and I can still remember watching Chris in his first episode when I was 8
“Fully grown adults”
I started watching around the time Christopher was the doctor (I was very little ) and now I’m 20 Chris and David will always have a special place in my heart.
David Tennant is more than my favorite actor. As a kid he was just... Larger than life! He and thehe character he played shaped what I wanted to be as an adult. Charismatic, kind, clever all of these are what I strive to be and it's thanks to David and his performance
I adore him, and even today he's still my icon and hero
Larger Than Life. Absolutely right.
I’ve recently been rewatching all of new who because my husband wanted to watch it (he never did as a kid/teenager) and I very quickly realized after watching through David’s era, most of my current morals and my viewpoint on life, come from him as the doctor. It’s very interesting to see how this show truly shaped who I was as an adult.
I'm from Russia. I came across Doctor Who not long ago. I'm 48. Now I'm thinking what my life would be like if I'd seen this series in my childhood. All my attitudes to life which I've been working on and developing for a long time purposefully would've been easy-made and natural if only I could see Doctor Who in my childhood!!!!!
David Tennant was incredible as The Doctor. He was the best modern Doctor
The irony of this comment is that I discovered today that Waris Hussein HATES this Doctor.
I mean, I'm sure he might like Tennant as a person, but he is not a fan of his Doctor.
Where are you watching from Nick !
What a fabulous interview. And rather emotional too, especially now that he's the Fourteenth Doctor. I've missed him so much in that role, even though I adore Jodie. There's just something really, really special about David. It's like he was born to play the Doctor. ❤❤
I’ve had the pleasure of meeting David at comic con & he was genuinely one of the nicest actors that I’ve met.
David totally nailed and embodied the character like nobody else, in my opinion. He is the best.
Totaly agree
As much as we like to think of the doctor as this one consistent, cohesive character, he’s anything but that. The thing that makes him special is that who “embodies” the character the best changes from person to person, because every actor has their own take. Personally I think Smith is what I think of when I think of the doctor, but to each their own
yep defo and always my fave doctor
I think he and Peter Capaldi both brought something special to it, the sparkle of a fan.
Watching the bit, at this time (end of 2022), where he speaks about returning for the 60th Anniversary and how he 'wouldn't mind' coming back......BIG GRIN ON MY FACE......
I would love for them to do a season of specials. Each Doctor from 8 - 13 gets one episode each before they all come together for a multi Doctor episode for the finale.
That is a fantastic idea.
God this show needs David now more than ever .. and RTD lol
RTD would be as bad as Chibnal now.
What's wrong with the show now? I think it's still good.
@@leif1075 The stories are not as interesting as it used to be
nah David had his time. I'd enjoy a one-off multi-Doc appearance but I want the show to be able to move on from him. This era is inconsistent but it undeniably has a few gems. Spyfall, Tesla and Villa Diodati are all brilliant episodes that I think would be much more appreciated if they were part of the RTD or Moffat eras.
They should take back RTD but David had his time
What I love about David is that his love for Doctor Who never seems to diminish
This man is my doctor no ifs ands or buts about it. Even nostalgia aside i loved the tenth doctor.
David/Peter/Matt all of you were fantastic Doctors.
And Christopher?
@@gamewithadam7235 sorry for not mentioning Chris, he gets all the credit in the world for relaunching the franchise but i dont tend to remember him as a fantastic doctor because we didnt have enough of him and he seemed to have left the show in a huff whereas all the Doctors who followed didnt.
@@kelmacett2456 It's because they treated people like shit, probably the stress of rebooting a show and seeing if it works/ RTD reputation was on the line back then. I guess after series 1 it got better because that stress went away but I think Chris understood it wasn't an excuse to treat people badly, and in fact probably made series 1 worse than if you were nice to the people on set.

Forgot to add Bernard cribbins will be greatly missed, he played is part so well, god bless him
I LOVE DAVID TENNANT
He is and always will be The Doctor, this takes me back to a great time not only for the show but my life. Great times.
Given how Tennant's career has evolved with his skill becoming evident portraying villains, I wonder if an ideal actor to portray the Doctor should be someone who can bring an edge, a sense that their Doctor could plausibly become a villain with slightly different choices.
I am from Germany and I really love this show. David was absolutely Perfect in this role and in my opinion the best doctor of all time.
Just watching this, the cast shots, the amazing music, fantastic actors. I makes me remember i really miss what this show used to all be about.

when david regenerated the words omg i dont want to go had me in tears
Дэвид был рожден для роли доктора и именно он сделал доктора таким, каким мы его любим)
It's fun to watch this after what we know currently about the show.
My first doctor was seven, in german television, and still, my favourite is ten and my favourite quote is from a Big Finish story, Day of the troll, when the doctor says "I am many things, but Neurotypical, I am not" .
And I share the same 1971 April 18. Day, David Tennant entered this earth. So it must be some supernatural connection.
Using the theme from The Family of Blood at 2:10 when david say's "impossible" is soooo good. That double parter is a perfect encapsulation of what the Doctor is and what he stands for.
Love David Tennant. He's a great actor
I love watching him

The best Doctor ever - we should do another 3 doctors episode with him in it!!!
The way he always talks about Doctor Who is :) He's got such a soft spot for it.
I still feel that Who has lost something since DT/RTD. I don't care what anyone says, that era is the pinnacle for me and many. There was a well founded crisis at the BBC when they announced their departures unlike what has happened since perhaps Tom Baker and not after. Also, the salaries were not only cut, but slashed and burned even by the leads and head people on the show. The show is still good, but I don't have the same kind or level of excitement.
yep totally agree and the russiel t davies/david tennant years of the show were the best always of doctor who and my fav doctor
It was the heart behind it all. What the new era lacks is a feeling of genuine passion for storytelling, it all feels empty and devoid of purpose. Tennant's era had so many memorable moments because they meant something to the writers, the characters within the story and the audience watching. When the story lacks that, it loses the magic of what it means to create compelling fiction.
@@RileyWritey yep totally agree with u and bad writing also on Chris chibnalls part also
@@jplays4956 what aboit Steven Moffat..he was as AMAZING if not more so than RTD ..don't you think?
Yeah, I can't comment too much on recent DW since I sort of lost touch with it and haven't seen past towards the end of Capaldi's run, but in my re-watches (in part trying to get back into it and catch up), I noticed a massive shift after Tennant and RTD. The first few episodes of series 5 felt almost devoid of heart to me, in a way I didn't remember as a kid watching it for the first time.
Ultimately, I think it's a matter of tone shift and focus change, which isn't necessarily objectively bad. The RTD era took a very character focused approach to storytelling. The stories and the spectacle were all designed to serve the development and growth of the characters, and if it was necessary to sacrifice some plot logic/consistency to better highlight the story of the characters, it was done. As a result, while the plot may not have always been flawless, even at the lowest points, the main characters were raw and honest, and it was almost impossible not to connect to them. And, when the story execution was at its best, it was able to deliver much stronger emotional beats due to the depth and care put into the characters.
What I've observed post-RTD is, as I'll put it, a shift from character-driven to spectacle-driven storytelling, where the characters and the plot serve to stimulate the viewer's senses with the spectacle of a fantastical sci-fi universe. And, rather than using clever storytelling to heighten the emotional journey and experience, the focus has shifted to being clever for the sake of being clever.
I admit that there is a lot about the post-RTD era that I absolutely love. Steven Moffat was incredible at creating exciting creatures and exploring some really interesting concepts, but he didn't have the same character-centric perspective that RTD had. I feel he was far better served as an episode writer than a showrunner. But I do understand why some people still prefer newer (or older) DW to the RTD era. To some people, the emotional journey and experience isn't what they want from the show, and they just want the spectacle, or the exploration of interesting concepts. But to me, and I suspect to a great many others, a story that isn't character driven falls flat. We are emotional creatures, after all, and embracing that in story is powerful and meaningful.
And wow, this comment has gotten much longer than I expected, I might as well also post it stand alone...
Knowing how oddly specific are the guidelines that determine a collectible's worth, imagine David deciding to sell some of his mint items, for whatever reason. The value of a Doctor Who mint collectible, actually owned by an actor who played the Doctor, must be incalculable.
He mentions not being sure if he'd be in the 60th. Ends up in the 60th :) !!!!!!!!!!!

What an important person in so many people's lives. Can;t believe he's back in the TARDIS! If only for a few specials ❤️❤️➕🔷
David said, in the Comic Aid (I think I’m not remembering the right name of it) skit with himself and Peter Davison, that Peter was always his favorite incarnation. I must say that I completely agree!
I watched a few Tom Baker episodes but it was Peter Davison who hooked me on Doctor Who, in the States. There have always been Whovians here. ❤️

Peter is David's Father-in-law at the time of filming of that skit I think David had already married Georgia
So the line "You're my favourite Doctor" in that skit might be a wink and nod to the fact 5 and 10 are relatives via Marriage

Every time I hear David Tennant talk Doctor Who or see his episodes, or a clip or a gif, I feel homesick. And I didn't even watch any TV shows till my mid-40s because of the pandemic and saw Doctor Who for the first time just a few months ago. I still feel completely betrayed by the 13th Doctor. I hope the producers realize how many DR Who fans they will lose if they only have Tennant for 3 episodes then replace him again. We had to suffer with that once. Don't screw the fans by taking him away from us AGAIN. Especially after only 3 episodes. They'll lose more fans than Whittaker and Capaldi did
The alternative being... what exactly? Keeping Tennant around forever? In 30 years time having an 81 year old Tennant in a wheelchair rolling around a TARDIS set?
They won't lose any Who fans, they might lose some casual viewers, but the show existed and was popular long before Tennant, and will live long beyond him. Any Who fan knows that.
@@argorath I know DW was popular before Tennant. But Tennant made the show better than many before him. I enjoyed DW prior but enjoyed it more with him acting as the Doctor.
