- “The rise of populism has been quite scary. It does feels sometimes like we didn’t learn the important lessons from relatively recent history…I feel like there’s a lack of kindness in the world.”
Award-winning actor David Tennant talks to Mariella Frostrup on #TimesRadio about “shabby” politics, his admiration of Marina Litvinenko, why the arts need to be allowed to fail, and how his marriage revolves around Doctor Who.

06:53 "I'm just glad she looked at me" The way he said that made my heart melt
Bless him. From how her dad tells the story, David kept taking her on dates and she was genuinely clueless that he fancied her. She thought he was just trying to get her like Shakespeare🤣
Great interview!!! Love David Tennant!! Entertaining, intelligent, thoughtful! And clearly in love with his wife and kiddos!! How could a person not appreciate and support such a man!!
It was a smooth answer to the naughty question!
He played for time well though.
Let us all pause, in the presence of a good and charming human, at the sheer beauty of David Tennant's cheekbones!
There is a lack of kindness .. in the world today. David you are so spot on.
David is one of the entertainers that not only entertain you and help you through his character roles, but also in real life too.
He is such a great actor and most importantly person. Love seeing his work and love seeing interviews of him or just videos of him being him. Some actors are like that, but David is one of few who can spark your world instantly
I did not like some of her questions, they seemed off to me but David Tennant was amazing as always.
What was wrong with anything she asked?
@@maggiemccauslin1084 Some question were definitely inappropriate and weirdly sexual, I think OP was referring to her questions in the beginning, where she sort of asks him about his and Georgias relationship, mentioning her father in that context and generally attempts to discuss their sex life
Dude I love him😭 he makes me want to be a better person
I love David Tennant. I appreciate listening to the host not being over-modulated.
I love him as an actor! It’s delightful to know he’s a cool person too 😊
I'm in the USA, Deep South, and you're so right. There is a lack of kindness and courtesy here. The bitterness of politics seems to have filtered down to every facet of life here. The radio stations are crammed full with rude, judgmental, bitter political talk shows and quasi-Christian talk shows spouting off political invectives against "them". Very little courtesy these days, thinly veiled racism too, at least that is what it's like here.
Sounds like you only see it from one side, if you move north or becomes all grooming and sexually charged conversations among bouts of offense. And they’re so mean they’ll ruin your life if you merely question their obsession with kids and sex.
@@istaphobe What?
@@istaphobe Nonsense.
@@Laura-rp9rt please be kind
The type of people in power are usually not the kind type of people because of some reason, meanwhile opinions differ a lot on how kind people should be. The lack of kindness is going to stay for yet a long time. There needs to be consensus first.
I am going to have to add something to his last remarks. Being an open and decent person, how exactly would "open" and how exactly would "decent' be defined? I think different people will come up with different definitions and as I said, there needs to be a consensus first.
Mrgaret thatcher said she wanted england to be more like victorian values and here we are lower classes cold hungry dying and then being blamed for it all
I can never see Mariella Frostrup without thinking of ‘Coupling.’
Can’t argue with most of what he says here.
Love him ^^
Oh God, how beautiful he is! Everything about David is great: his voice and charming appearance, and his openness and kindness. Scotland gave the world a GREAT ACTOR and Man. But how many wonderful roles he could still play! For example, the best Russian directors in psychological and romantic films. Alas! How fleeting life is. But David Tennant is still beautiful, with great talent and experience. His Casanova, Crowley, Richard and Hamlet and even 10 Doctor will be included in the classics of world cinema + thousands of fan videos with him (and if the latter had Russian voice acting, there would be millions of views).😂❤
Yes the actor of life he is the character of the tenth doctor the voice of everything he is Davide is beautiful how cool it is to be a topic to say that a good person ❤❤❤ thank you good luck and success
Yes актёр жизни он персонаж десятого доктора голос всё он Дэвиде прекрасен как круто быть тема сказать что хороший человек ❤❤❤ ему благодарю удачи успехов
I can just feel all the audio Parameters screaming in red. Honestly i would have dumped her track and rerecord the questions. This is horrible
Loving your work Mr Tennant…
Ms. Frostrup's questions are generally good, but her knowledge of Doctor Who is woefully inadequate.
There were a few scarved Doctors actually. Tom's was just the most iconic. Hartnell wore a scarf in the role, as did Colin Baker and Sylvester McCoy. Also, Paul McGann wore an ascot, which as we all know, is the scarf of neckties.
She's spot on with these questions. Lobe it
He is outrageously attractive, his eyes are like magnets. it is absolutely not fair to women that he is a married man with a family...this is injustice! 😁🤣🥰
The people that write '#Bekind' on their posts appear to be some of the least kind people you'd ever hope to meet
sylvestor mccoy also wore a scarf. it was roughly about 1/2 as long as tom's but yeah, sylvestor had 1 too. only other 1 i know.
Gülmesi ve mimikleri inanılmaz sempatik ve güzel 🤩🤩🤩🤩
"You're funny. I love you."
0:17 100% yes. I have.
What's with the rude interviewer?
What a contrast: a wonderful interview but terrible technical execution in the form of abysmal sound quality. It baffles me why Times Radio doesn't fix such a basic and obvious problem that everybody in the audience is able to notice, many have given negative feedback about and would be easy and cheap to fix. It's hard to imagine that it's because of lack of resources, firstly because as I said it would be cheap and Times Radio belongs to the Murdoch media empire which has huge resources, and secondly, because most regular people who have a RUclips channel and produce spoken content are able to produce more clear and better sounding audio. The problem has existed at least during the close to a year that I have been following this channel. I... just... don't.... understand.
Where exactly is the problem? I'm almost halfway through and haven't noticed anything yet. Does it get bad later or something? Because so far this is completely fine? Maybe if it were music or something I'd be pickier but honestly haven't noticed anything.
@@junbh2 David sounds fine, but she sounds static-y.
@@junbh2 I'm genuinely shocked that anyone could listen to this and not notice her seriously bad sound quality. To me it sounds painfully distorted. Maybe it sounds worse on headphones, or perhaps some of us have more sensitive hearing, because for me this is grating/painful to listen to. I can't even continue, it actually hurts my ears. Weird.
Edit: Just out of genuine curious interest - and for research purposes - what device did you use to listen to this? I'm using my laptop with decent speakers and headphones. Are you using a phone or something else? I wonder if some devises/speakers just don't pick up the bad quality?
@@RebornLeveller I can hear the static (listening via macbook pro speakers) but as someone who is still using an old transistor radio in their kitchen I don't mind it at all. Provides just the right amount of coziness 😅
@@hightidemidafternoon
That's an interesting perspective. I like the cosy sound of old transistor radios, but to me this video sounds nothing like that. This is more of a digitized distortion, the likes of which only comes with regressive modern technology.
Itry to be kind to every one every day
You awesome 🤩
Please respect please
I would very badly like to find out how this conversation about fascism began. Although, I have some good assumptions.
yes, in the middle of the conversation was the answer, the right one.
I would say it might have something to do with him being in that production of CP Taylor’s Good recently
If I felt that there was something wrong and it's someone is being hurt or abused or verbally abused and I didn't call someone out on it it would make me just as bad as the other person however if the person wasn't doing something that didn't deserve to be called out and I called them out on something that they didn't do then I'd be not right either so it's kind of really a complicated question but I would want to believe that I would call someone out on their BS I actually have a habit of calling people out on their b******* or BS
You cool 😎
The world is degenerate in many ways :(
Vive Medici!
I don't believe our degrading societies are the result of politics at all. I blame the internet. Before the internet, people were socialized to know how to behave in public. With the internet, rude people, often of lesser knowledge have learned they can not only speak and be heard, a hundred people as lacking in knowledge as they are will join in to support their anti social behavior. Now all of these people believe they are entitled to be just as rude and abusive in public.
Yep, our politics have been influenced by the internet. In particular the echo chambers of social media
@@mrboost4186 Influenced by, not caused by. Before that there was television, radio, newspapers, broadsheets and towncriers. They are all just mediums by which news, or propaganda is spread. The problem now is the same as it always was, human greed and gullibility.
@@mrboost4186 Politics are just a side show. Our social morals have been redefined by the internet - social media in particular. Politics simply seem like the problem because people that are not smart or educated aren't capable of making relevant comments on most topics. They know if they bring Politics into the discussion they will get a rise. They aren't capable of understanding they are simply publicly announcing their own ignorance. They've done this so much they continue the practice IRL.

Sorry David turned but I have to disagree with you 100% create when it comes to the arts I think it's very important to keep them because it helps with their conditions so it helps with our emotions it helps with our mental state anything that helps with your mental state or your creative for you creative state should be funded and should be kept it's very very important so getting rid of anything that creative is not a good idea that's just my my opinion in my view My creative look fixed point in time

If you find him depressing, then don't watch videos with him in it.
He's not even called Davidson
@@doctorfunkshockMaybe OP is addressing David Tennant's father in law? Who also isn't Davidson but Davison is a lot closer...
so true. i love this man so muhc
