I'm 62 and saw this movie when I was a young kid. So magical. The music is unforgettable. Takes you to the beach at sunset, your body tired from surfing all day, your body radiatinf heat from soaking up the sun for 12 hours. The sand in your sandals. A cold beer in your hand. And watching the sun dip below the horizon. And time stood still.
I was fifteen years old in 1965. Started surfing with a Hobie 7' 8" board. This was in Ocean City, Md. This song brings back many memories of days gone by. Surfed for over thirty years. RIP Bruce.
Sad how Ocean City Md. has become, Crime and gang fights on the Boardwalk. Was a Great place to go on vacation. Miss those days during the 60s and 70's.
If there is a piece of music with stronger association I sure don’t know of it. Brings a tear to my eye. And the cameo appearance - absolutely priceless.
The day I saw the movie and heard the song stands out in my mind like it was yesterday. I was in 6th grade. I'm 55 and have been surfing since I was 9 years old. It is my favorite song of all songs, period. Been playing guitar for 32 years and just last March in Costa Rica, learned to play it , rhythm and lead. Now I'm a happy man......Thanks guys for the joy in my heart.
Had it on my 8 track, played it on the way to Huntington beach Ca. in 66-67-68 and back, life was bitchin then, we would sit and watch the sunset and listen to this song.
This tune, in connection to the film, transports me back to a time when we had time, Time to live, instead of time to just exist. A time of more patience, acceptance, respect, listening, ambling, simplicity. with lighter bodies, haha. A time where I think we were improving and would continue to do that. But, here we are.....It wasn't perfect back then, but now? Thank you for this tune which takes me to a quiet space, a place I feel thankful for having experienced and a place that reminds me to slow down and look up and around at the simple things.Things that wave to me and tell me it's all still here if I just jump off the edge and float...Gods music, for sure........Cheers and Aloha.
Unreal to find this here! One of my most favorite surf songs of all time. I remember handing out posters for Bruce in San Diego so that I could see this great movie for free. Thanks Bruce and thanks Sandals.Peace
surfing has allways been good to me,been in the water for 40 yrs now,we still have heros like these guy's. i wish our younger generation wouldget that.gerry lopez, rory russell ,greg noll,,fred van dyke, peter cole, pat curren, dale velzy, shaun thomson, mark richard's,robert august, randy lewis, sam &chris hawk tom curren... we are so bless to have surfer's like them.i'm so stoked that" jeff hakman" took sometime to take a picture together of him and i at the surfing hall of fame induction. and the best for last. " the duke" eddie aikua".there's more but you know who they are just don't forget them.
This great song takes you back to different times when things were all good, simple and easy. The feeling this song still gives a sense of calm, beauty and serenity to this day in a world way different from which it was born. Thanks so much sandals!
Sad to see you go brother. Thank you so very very much. I sometimes play your film all weekend long in the winter hanging around the house. May you foever surf the perfect wave at Cape St Francis with Old King Neptune! 🌊
I love this song. It take me back to my old beach days from Newport Beach to Seal Beach. I would learn how to boogy board, body and sand surf. Now I live in the middle of Colorado. In July, I hope to visit my old stomping ground and do some body or boogy boarding surfing.
Everytime I surf at Palm Beach Sydney Australia I recall the scene in The Endless Summer where the boys visit the very same place and ride the very same waves I do...and this track plays in my head everytime...love it😊
The late Ward "Pally" Austin, a DJ on a several Sydney radio stations used this theme as his intro. I was just a tiny kid, but had fond memories of that.
Probably the most Fitting and most Beautiful Surf song ever written. I saw Endless Summer when it opened, I was 16 years old at the time. This song was one of the main things I will never forget from the movie. Hearing this song always reminds me of sitting on the beach with my girl.... Thank you guys for such a wonderfull time. Oh yeah, I'm now 60 years old!!! Regards Sonny
This is one of my all-time favorite songs. The Summer of '66 was one of the best times of my life, thanks, in part, to this great movie and song. That song has remained in my mind all these years, and I was so happy to see it on youtube. You guys are awesome!
This is the song and movie that changed my 45 year journey threw life. I'm a surf photographer living on the North Shore now with a surf video channel on RUclips as well. Thanks for the inspiration, I'll do what I can to carry the torch and inspire. Those were the days my friends. Aloha and mahalo...
There are no words I can use to express how moving this song is and how great of a mood it puts me in! The Endless Summer just may be the best film along with one of the most purest surf tunes ever written. I hope I have the honor to see you all play one day!
The Cape St Francis takes with this song and accompaniment of xylophone and clarinet are awesome. I watch this flick at least twice a year. A great feeling movie. I grew up with Bruce's On Any Sunday and didn't find this one until later. Love em both. You are one of my heroes Bruce. You Sandals too!
Hey John, your brother David taught me how to play guitar when I was in high school back in 1960's Minnesota, about as far from surfing as you could get. I have fond memories of learning how to play clean surf lines and melodies. I still use those techniques to this day. Say hi and thanks from me if you see him.
This song is embedded in so many people's head...many like myself, who were stuck in The Midwest saw the flick, and them dreamed about surfing the world. just as powerful 45 years on.Many thanks!
I was a freshman at the University of Notre Dame in September of 1966. Breen-Phllips Hall. Room 247. It was a triple. Not much room for anything on the walls. I put my Endless Summer movie poster on the wall. When the snow piled high and the temperature dropped below zero, I saw that poster every time I left our room. I enjoyed being in South Bend, this California kid, and I didn't mind the cold. But this poster kept me warm inside.
Such a classic! Hate to see summer go…love my salt soak in the ocean. Someday I am going to take my boogie board and follow summer...thinking I will do a new sequel “Endless Summer lll”
Incredible song. The mellow rhythm progression accompanied by the soft, and hopeful lead melody reminds me of the sun coming over the water on a glassy, A-frame morning. One of my favorite songs of all time. Truly a masterpiece.
One year ago I commented on this song. Now, I finally have the time to listen to it again. I first heard it during the late 1960s. It is timeless and BEAUTIFUL. Thank you for posting.
Being around the age of Bruce and the Sandals (generally) this brings me back to the halceyon days of my youth (LOL), Being from Bridgeport, Ct. I'm not trying to tell you I was a beach bum but I really liked this movie and soundtrack and have brought it with me thoughout my life in a way of whenever I need to shed myself of the daily accumulated stresses of life I put this track on and unwind totally. Which is what I'm doing right now. Thanks for that!
Every summer on the last night before school I watch this movie, just got done watching it. Thanks for something to look forward to during the school year :)
Your song influenced my surfing and skateboarding style. I started surfing in 1971 after watching Endless Summer in a theater in Rio de Janeiro Brazil. The theme song impressed me so much. Beautiful. I remember going skateboarding and thinking about the melody to inspire my skateboarding. I still listen to it these days and it just gets more beautiful as time passes by. Thank you!!!!
when i hear this song i not only see the endless summer movie in my head, but i think to so many surfing sessions ive had. like the sunset session in puerto rico where the local bar had a band covering this song and it you could hear it in the lineup. i will be getting no work done for the rest of the day
Super duper video and music. I remember seeing the original Endless Summer film in Boston back in the 60's when it first came out. I was fortunate to get the original Endless Summer 33-1/3 album on e-bay a few years back....still listen to it. I'm 65 and still surf in RI/MA. Wow- is that really you guys? Cool.....best part is that this wave goes on and on and on. My music/surfing/ocean friends and I will continue to play and hear this song and share the wave with others........this song is totally a gift you have shared.
Thank you so much for posting this. I can remember the song way back when the movie first came out during the late 1960s. Great tune and I love it very much.
Growing up in San Clemente we danced to the Sandals many, many weekends. Not just great musicians, but great guys to know. Although I was younger, they were always cool to talk to during our dances at the old Catholic church in SC.
I remember looking at the liner notes to Endless Summer. It seemed the Sandals would go on their way and Endless Summer to the bargain racks and rummage sales. 46 years and counting it's remained a classic. Thanks guys!

I can't tell you all how many times I have sat out in the water, waiting for the last wave to take me into shore with this song ringing in my mind - needless to say, I always have to paddle back out and enjoy a few more. Thanks Bruce.
When I think of my middle school years growing up in Daytona Beach, Florida in the mid 60s, this song always comes to mind -- sort of the sound track for those years, "after all these years," as they say. By the way, I love that maple neck Jazzmaster! Thanks for putting this up on RUclips.
It was great to see John, Walter and Gus Playing The Endless Summer again. I grew up in San Clemente in the 1960s. John Blakely taught me how to play the Guitar. My brother graduated from High School with John and Walter.
RIP Bruce Brown - an inspirational man! "With enough time and enough money, you could spend the rest of your life following the summer around the world."......
I saw the film before there was a sound track. I was 18 and moved to Hawaii summer 1965 to attend UH in fall for what was going to be 5 heavenly years. That summer,non-surfers took me to (Punahou High School ?) to see "a film about surfing." Bruce Brown was on stage narrating with music the future Endless Summer sound track. I bought a new, custom made 8'10" board by Hobie's from a NY kid at UH in fall. Mentored by the best (new friends), I eventually rode 18' waves with Doyle, Pomar, Sweet.
The ALL-TIME signature surf instrumental tune for GENUINE surfers. Sounds just as gorgeous, played by the original guys, 4 decades later. And what a bonus in the clip - Bruce Brown talking with the guys about how it all began and how the Sandals' own composition influenced Bruce's filmed scenes in TES so powerfully. This whole clip is one unique experience. The ultimate de-stresser in these latter-day troubled times. Where's my old 9'5" ! - makes me wanna hit the beach and shoot the curl again.
Yeah! This is all about having found the right people at the right time and being in right place together (California forever, but this occurence happens all over our great world). A fantastic song for an unforgettable film. Thanks You Boys!
@maccabarb I remember going to the Casino for the dances. What great times back then. Now I am considering them for our 50th Class Reunion from Capo!!! Go Cougars!
First heard this while sailing off the South Atlantic Coast and then over to the Western Gulf.......1967.........Yes, the song and the thoughts in that context (recall watching surfers off South Padre Island) are something surreal.
wow this is for real! What a song. Been looking for this for years (I'm slow). -=This movie and song had major impact on my life.I was a young surfer and music lover. Now I'll definitely hook up some Sandals music. I didn't realize they played in the second Endless Summer film also .= every time has it's bad and good..but man things were good back then.
Hey guys, love your music ... laidback I've been having this question for a few decades now. Maybe you can help me out. At the end of endless summer 2 right after the scene where laird almost hits a helicopter ("have a little laird-burger"). There is this reminiscing scene with a very mellow/melancholic guitar song playing in the background (right before the 'endless summer theme' that plays with the movie-score), It doesnt't seem to be featured in the soundtrack. If anyone could tell me what this track is, I would be insanely gratefull.
I want this played at my funeral!
This was the theme song of my life and helped me to escape from Detroit! And follow the Surf for decades and decades! Thank you for that!
Surf lake superior
After all these many years this movie still hypnotizes me and this theme is totally perfect. Every time.
One of the most beautiful and soothing instrumentals I have ever heard......

Just give me the time and address my friend, and consider it done.
With you there my man. I'll be at yours if you come to mine. Failing that we'll have a dance and drink to it beyond the grave ✋. Legend.

I pray you never had to go to Vietnam. You would have been 18 in 1968.

My first surf album- I still have an original LP in RED vinyl...........
truly a collectors item in red
This song is Nostalgia at it's finest for me. I am there, there in the sunlight, in the Twilight and everywhere where else this song has reached.
Had it on my 8 track, played it on the way to Huntington beach Ca. in 66-67-68 and back, life was bitchin then, we would sit and watch the sunset and listen to this song.

Growing up in San Clemente we danced to the Sandals many, many weekends. Not just great musicians, but great guys to know. Although I was younger, they were always cool to talk to during our dances at the old Catholic church in SC.
"The Endless Summer" and "On Any Sunday," two of my favorites!
I remember looking at the liner notes to Endless Summer. It seemed the Sandals would go on their way and Endless Summer to the bargain racks and rummage sales. 46 years and counting it's remained a classic. Thanks guys!
Pretty simple but effective,,,,NICE !!!

Best old school surf movie! This is one of the greatest songs of all time too, great job Sandals!
Thanks for the music....for ever Sandals.
Thank you for this song 🙏🏻.
RIP Bruce Brown
Beautiful music...
Classic and beautiful... those were the days.
Yeah! This is all about having found the right people at the right time and being in right place together (California forever, but this occurence happens all over our great world). A fantastic song for an unforgettable film. Thanks You Boys!

Hey guys, love your music ... laidback
I've been having this question for a few decades now.
